Great Idea Rupert!

Posted 7/20/10 at 8:54am by jamie

Rupert Murdoch is a genius. Genius I tell ya!

The Times has lost almost 90% of its online readership compared to February since making registration mandatory in June, calculations by the Guardian show.

Unregistered users of thetimes.co.uk are now "bounced" to a Times+ membership page where they have to register if they want to view Times content. Data from the web metrics company Experian Hitwise shows that only 25.6% of such users sign up and proceed to a Times web page; based on custom categories (created at the Guardian) that have been used to track the performance of major UK press titles online, visits to the Times site have fallen to 4.16% of UK quality press online traffic, compared with 15% before it made registration compulsory on 15 June

I just can’t wait until he decides to do this with Fox News. I also think he should expand this idea to the broadcast Fox News. People will pay for the news, so why not make his channel like a pay-per-view. You want to see O’Reilly? Fine, it’s $3.95. Same for all his other shows. Just think of all the money Rupert will make!

Now think of how much better of a place America would be if we didn’t have his propaganda filled smut filling our airwaves or intertubes.

Please do it Rupert. Do it for America!

O’Reilly Gives A “Rare Correction”

Posted 6/6/09 at 11:14am by jamie

Bill O. went after CNN this week, claiming that they never really covered the assassination of the army recruiter in Arkansas. CNN’s Rick Sanchez decided to call Bill O. out on this:

So Bill O. did a very unusual step in issuing a correction last night.

Usually Bill just chalks it up as “I am right and they are wrong – period”, despite mounds of evidence to the contrary. It’s just pretty funny that FOX, who is the constant ratings winner, seems to have to resort to lying, and in some cases slandering, the competition.

Saturday night Wanda Sykes hosted the annual White House Correspondents Dinner. During her presentation she made a joke about Rush Limbaugh. In case you missed it, here it is:

When I heard that I knew there would instantly be outrage from the right, and they didn’t disappoint. Just for a little taste of the anger we can see in the coming days just take a look at Reliable Sources yesterday:

Now that the week is kicking back into full gear we can expect to hear increased screams of anger from the right. I can only imagine what Limbaugh will say today.

But how far off base was she?

Welcome Back To The Era Of The Crazies

Posted 4/5/09 at 9:10am by jamie

So many of us on the left have said that we will see the crazies come back out now that we got a Democratic President. I’m talking the real whack jobs, the ones that make you think of Timothy McVeigh, or Richard Poplawski:

A gunman wearing a bulletproof vest and "lying in wait" opened fire on officers responding to a domestic disturbance call Saturday, killing three of them and turning a quiet Pittsburgh street into a battlefield, police said.

Police Chief Nate Harper said the motive for the shooting isn't clear, but friends said the gunman recently had been upset about losing his job and feared the Obama administration was poised to ban guns.

I’m sure everyone has already read about it, and seen the very interesting connections being made between people like Beck and Bachmann with this guy. If not, then I suggest you stop right here and go on over to Crooks and Liars, where Dave Neiwert has an excellent piece up. Interesting enough, Dave has a book getting ready to be released which is on this very subject.

Of course this has put the right into full defense. Here’s Malkin:

You killed all the innocent people at the Binghamton immigration center.

You killed these police officers.

It’s all your fault.

And it doesn’t stop with her. “Jammie Wearing Fool” has really put the “fool” in their name:

At Balloon Juice, John Cole offers this subtle analysis, calling it Glenn Beck's America. I suppose when those four cops were murdered in Oakland we should have called it what, Jesse Jackson's America? Barack Obama's America? Ron Dellums' America?

What a way to inject some racism into this tragedy.

This is the exact point I want to touch on. Remember last year when that loon went into a Tennessee church and started shooting up people? Turns out the church was rather liberal, and the guy was a big reader of O’Reilly and Hannity.

Or how about the guy who was sending those fake anthrax letters to big name liberals, like Keith Olbermann and the New York Times? He was a “huge” fan of people like Coulter and Malkin. He admitted it! But that put the right into this same defense mode.

What gets me is how the wingnuts feel they can’t take any blame for this. In an ideal world, that would be true, but this world is far from ideal. And let’s take a second and think of how many times we hear of our words having “bad effects”. For example – when we held debates on the Iraq war and people on the left called for an end to the war, somehow our words were used as "recruiting tools for the terrorists”.  Isn’t that interesting how some blog or politician saying something here, can influence people to do bad things half a world away, yet, people saying things here on our airwaves and in our media have no effect on people here at home.

There’s are far more examples of this. Kind of like the old wingnut notion that “if we teach sex education to our children, then they will be out doing it like rabbits”, even if the kids are only a couple of years from being able to serve in the military.

My whole point is that words do have effects, especially when you have people like Poplawski out there. And you got people like Glenn Beck, whose main goal is to instill fear into these people. I posted perfect proof of that just a few days ago, when Beck was saying that Obama was leading us to fascism (a liberal fascist?), while playing Nazi footage in the background. His little head sticking up in front of the big screen, leaving you with an awesome sense of an Orwellian time.

People love to be scared. That’s no secret. Think of roller coasters, horror movies and extreme sports. So the right has become vampires feeding on that fear, or the adrenaline rush associated with it. They do it all in the name of the sacred rating, even if that rating means votes.

“BARACK OBAMA’S COMING TO TAKE YOUR GUNS”

O'Reilly Gets Pwn3d Again

Posted 12/6/08 at 7:54am by jamie

Bill and his "War on Christmas". Oh how it ends up making him look like a buffoon.

Link: Or kelly

O'Reilly tries to use the Klan as an example in his argument and says that courts wouldn't allow them to make their own displays. Of course he is using MLK Day as his example in this, but let's go with Christmas. If a government allows Jewish people to display a menorah, would they allow the KKK to display a cross? By Bill's argument the answer would be no. If you go by the facts, the answer is yes, and it has been done - right here in Cincinnati.

Obama Ahead By 11% In Gallup Daily Tracker

Posted 4/15/08 at 2:07pm by jamie

This is the biggest margin to date for Obama. I guess the pundits blew it again. It seems that the "bitter" comment isn't hurting Obama, like they all claimed it would. As matter of fact, the AP is finding out that there isn't much impact at all:

Yes, some Democrats in Pennsylvania's Rust Belt communities were upset by Barack Obama's suggestion that voters there "cling to guns or religion" because of bitterness about their economic lot. But many more seem to think it was no big deal - and if there's a problem it's with the political slapfest that has followed.

So Scarborough, Buchanan, O'Reilly, and all you other broadcasters out there, stop telling middle America how they feel. You are elitists in your own sense and have no idea what we "feel". It's an insult to try and tell us that. Here's something middle America. Why don't one of you guys walk into a local bar and start telling all the people that they need to "feel" this way? Watch how fast you get called outside.
