Better White House Interviews 101

Posted 4/20/06 at 3:18am by jamie

Tony Snow is really pushing for that new job and he started last night with this little but on O'Reilly (thanks to Think Progress):

O’REILLY: Prices have doubled in the USA and continue to go up. What say you sir?

SNOW: Well, this is where you get to call me a pinhead again, Bill. You’re absolutely right, supplies are high. But a couple of different things going on.

Different types of oil that are in supply. Oil refining costs have gone up a little bit. But let’s be real about this: 60 percent of the price of a gallon of gasoline right now is crude oil prices. Crude oil over $70 a gallon right now. That gets written into the price. Why is that per gallon crude oil price so high? Because people are jittery.

You’ve got a guy in Iran saying we’re going to build a nuclear weapon. You’ve got people complaining about Donald Rumsfeld and the Pentagon. There are jitters about the stability of the Middle East. Those subside and a number of people say this, analysts in the industry, the price goes down again

(video available at Think Progress)

Wow Tony. I thought your little piece on Storm Front was bad but this really shows how ignorant you are. Let me use this logic (or illogic) view for a minute. Maybe gas prices are high because people are fearing that Iran will get a nuclear weapon and they have seen what a bungled job Rummy and Bush have done with Iraq.

Seeing how Tony Snow thinks, he should be a welcomed sock puppet in Bush's inner circle. He will say whatever it takes to make Bush look good. Well I guess working at Fox gave him a good start for that. Hell - Fox is already the administrations own press corps, might as well use them even more.

No Wonder Why O'Reilly Is After Olbermann

Posted 3/3/06 at 10:19pm by jamie

The February ratings are out and it shows a nasty picture for Fox with O'Reilly leading the nose dive. CNN is not in the top slot for the entire day with a 4% increase in viewership over the last year. FOX is in second, down 13% and MSNBC is in third with an increase of 47%. Don't forget also that MSNBC is the top rated news site on the internet so they also have that market cornered now.

During the 8pm slot (when O'Reilly and Olbermann are on), Paula Zahn is number 1 (down 3%), O'Reilly is number 2 (down 21%) and Olbermann is number 3 (up 55%). This has to really piss O'Reilly off.

Intelligent Design Suffers A Intelligent Defeat

Posted 12/20/05 at 5:08pm by jamie

A judge has ruled that intelligent design can not be taught in Pennsylvania
classrooms:

HARRISBURG, Pa. - "Intelligent design" cannot be mentioned in biology
classes in a Pennsylvania public school district, a federal judge said
Tuesday, ruling in one of the biggest courtroom clashes on evolution since
the 1925 Scopes trial.

Dover Area School Board members violated the Constitution when they
ordered that its biology curriculum must include the notion that life on
Earth was produced by an unidentified intelligent cause, U.S. District Judge
John E. Jones III said. Several members repeatedly lied to cover their
motives even while professing religious beliefs, he said.

The school board policy, adopted in October 2004, was believed to have
been the first of its kind in the nation.

"The citizens of the Dover area were poorly served by the members of the
Board who voted for the ID Policy," Jones wrote.

The board's attorneys had said members were seeking to improve science
education by exposing students to alternatives to Charles Darwin's theory
that evolution develops through natural selection. Intelligent-design
proponents argue that the theory cannot fully explain the existence of
complex life forms.

I can imagine that a war will be waged against this judge and he will soon be
coined as an "activist judge" by the right wing radicals. This is a victory for
America and keeping it as a secular nation. The judge also had a strong message
to send to the individuals pushing for ID to be taught:

Coulter and O'Reilly - A Bad Day For Both.

Posted 12/8/05 at 5:59am by jamie

This is to good to pass up. Its not a pie in the face but it seems like these
students have a grip on reality and what it is Coulter really says:

STORRS, Conn. -- Conservative columnist Ann Coulter gave up trying to
finish a speech at the University of Connecticut on Wednesday night when
boos and jeers from the audience became overwhelming.

Coulter cut off the talk after 15 minutes and instead held a half-hour
question-and-answer session.

"I love to engage in repartee with people who are stupider than I am,"
Coulter told the 2,600 people at Jorgensen Auditorium.

Coulter's appearance prompted protests from several groups, including
Students Against Hate and the Puerto Rican/Latin American Cultural Center.
They criticized her for spreading a message of hate and intolerance.

Nearly 100 students gathered inside the Student Union for a rally against
Coulter. About a half-dozen people held protest signs outside the
auditorium.

[..]

During the question-and-answer session, someone asked Coulter if she
really was against a woman's right to vote.

"Not having women vote is a joke," she said, reversing comments she has
previously made.

Eric Knudsen, a 19-year-old sophomore journalism and social welfare major
at UConn, didn't attend the speech.

"We encourage diverse opinion at UConn, but this is blatant hate speech,"
said Knudsen, head of Students Against Hate.

Kareem Mohni, a 20-year-old junior and a member of a campus Republicans
group, said he was disgusted with the Jorgensen crowd.

"It really appalled me that we're not able to come together as a group
and listen to a different view in a respectful environment," he said.

O'Reilly Trying To Justify His Comments

Posted 11/12/05 at 10:10pm by jamie

O'Reilly spoke out yesterday trying to defend himself and his comments about
San Francisco

I mean, look, everybody knows what?s going on there. What I said isn?t
controversial. What I said needed to be said. I?m sitting here and I?m
looking at a city that has absolutely no clue about what the world is. None.
You know, if you had been hit on 9/11 instead of New York, believe me, you
would not have voted against military recruiting. Yet the left-wing,
selfish, Land of Oz philosophy that the media and the city politicians have
embraced out there is an absolute intellectual disgrace.

Poor Bill. Everyone in this country does wrong except him. He feels he is
perfect and soon will get hit by the truth.

Coultergeist the Movie (or documentary)

Posted 10/21/05 at 3:40am by jamie

Seems some of the conservatives out there have a problem with Ann Coulter.
They even went through the hassle of producing a documentary on her. Check out
Brad Blog for the
details.

With O'Reilly talking about retirement, Coulter on the outs with her party
and Limbaugh's drug problem getting investigated again, that is going to leave
the right with Hannity and Beck as their main talking heads.

David Gergen said the wheels are coming off the administration (see
Crooks and Liars
for the video). Seems like the wheels are also coming off of the conservative
movement right now. Well 20 years of this leaning to the right has been more
than enough. We certainly are due a change in atmosphere when it comes to the
beltway.

Miers' Tax Problems.

Posted 10/17/05 at 5:53pm by jamie

Back in August, when Camp Casey was in full swing outside of Bush's Crawford
Ranch, the right wingers found some information they loved. That information was
about Cindy Sheehan having past tax troubles. She had acquired some liens
against her property over the years for a problem that many Americans face. It
was a great talking point for the right. I even remember O'Reilly and Limbaugh
trying to discredit her because she did not do her patriotic duty of paying her
taxes.

Now lets see what the right will say about Supreme Court Nominee Harriett
Miers.

Washington -- The year Harriet Miers began work as a senior presidential
aide in the White House, the city of Dallas slapped three liens in three
months on a property she controls in a low-income minority Dallas
neighborhood, records show.

The city placed the liens in 2001 to force her to reimburse it for
clearing the vacant lot of tall grass, weeds and debris after Miers failed
to have the work done herself, as required by city law, and after she did
not respond to city notices to maintain the property.

It was not the first time the city had to take action. Records show that
since Miers assumed power of attorney for her ailing mother in 1995, the
city has issued seven other liens on vacant lots that Miers controls in the
same neighborhood around Tipton Park.

All 10 liens, totaling less than $2,000, have been paid, a city spokesman
said.

But the failure of Miers, a former Dallas City Council member, to comply
with city law, and her slow response in reimbursing the city, run counter to
her image as a meticulous, detail-oriented attorney who is always well
prepared.
