FRC Takes The Political Side

Posted 10/2/06 at 10:06pm by jamie

Family Research Council - Protecting Family Faith and Freedom. What a damn joke!. Here is the statement they released about Foley:

In response to the events surrounding the resignation of Congressman Mark Foley (R- Fla.), Family Research Council (FRC) President Tony Perkins released the following statement:

"We are all shocked by this spectacle of aberrant sexual behavior, but we shouldn't be. This is the end result of a society that rejects sexual restraints in the name of diversity. When a 16-year-old boy is not safe from sexual solicitation from an elected representative of the people, we should question the moral direction of our nation. If our children aren't safe in the halls of Congress, where are they safe? Maybe it's time to question: when is tolerance just an excuse for permissiveness?

"Both political parties need to be more serious about protecting children from sexual predators. We need public policy in our country that protects marriage, respects parental authority and aggressively polices boundaries around our children."

So they are trying to make this a gay issue and don't even mention the fact that members of Congress tried to cover this up. There you have it - the FRC is far more worried about partisanship than they are family.

If ABC Wants War Then War They Got

Posted 9/6/06 at 4:45pm by jamie

ABC wants to turn into a right wing propaganda machine, then so be it. We will go after them where it hurts - their advertisers. They have fully shown their partisanship in the new 9/11 documentary, and Think Progress has uncovered more evidence of it:

ABC has been aggressively advancing its inaccurate and politically slanted miniseries, “The Path to 9/11,” to the right wing. Big players like Rush Limbaugh have been provided copies, as have obscure right-wing bloggers like Patterico.

But ABC has refused to provide a copy to President Clinton’s office. Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and former National Security Adviser Samuel Berger have also requested copies of the film from ABC, and both have been denied. Both Berger and Albright are harshly criticized in the film in scenes that, according to former counterterrorism czar Richard Clarke, are “180 degrees from what happened.”

So this is what they want to resort to? Fine. Every major advertiser for ABC better be on notice that they will feel the wrath of the progressive blogosphere.

Something else that I am wondering, and I hope campaign finance lawyers can look into this. The media is suppose to give equal time to candidates. Since this is purely a piece of partisan campaign material, what are they going to give the left? They say Fahrenheit 9/11 is fake, so then why not air that? I hope the FCC and FEC looks into ABC's actions.

Lieberman Looking For Help

Posted 8/13/06 at 12:53am by jamie

It looks like Lieberman is wondering where all his friends have gone and looking for some new ones:

Sen. Joe Lieberman made an unusual pitch to people outside Connecticut when he conceded the state's Democratic primary to Ned Lamont and announced plans to run as an independent.

"If you're disappointed with the ugly tone of our politics, if you're fed up with the nasty partisanship in Washington, then I ask your help, too," said Lieberman, who was criticized as being too close to the Republican administration.

Lieberman called on people across America to visit his Web site and send ideas "on how we can build this new politics of unity and purpose." He also hit them up for campaign contributions.

"Together I am confident that we can find common ground and secure a better future for our children," he said. "That, and not partisanship, is what our politics ought to be about."

The next day, Lieberman discussed his decision to run as an independent before a national audience on CNN's "Larry King Live."

Lieberman's plea to voters beyond Connecticut comes as many Democratic Party leaders in and out of the state are abandoning the three-term incumbent and publicly endorsing Lamont. Several have urged Lieberman to withdraw from the race.

I don't believe many, if any, Democrats outside of Ct. will help Joe out. He might get some help from people like Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter though. This is a certain sign that Lieberman's race is looking pretty dim.

Valerie Plame Was Covert!

Posted 2/5/06 at 4:34pm by jamie

Michael Isikoff of
Newsweek laid
to rest that right wing argument that Valerie Plame was not a covert agent:

But special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald found that Plame had indeed
done "covert work overseas" on counterproliferation matters in the past five
years, and the CIA "was making specific efforts to conceal" her identity,
according to newly released portions of a judge's opinion.

Read complete article
here.

It is amazing how many on the right tried to come out and say Plame was not
covered under the statue because she was not "covert" or active in the past five
years. Now that argument is laid to rest as the courts had access to documents
none of us did and no one in Washington did. When they try to say she was not
"covert" then they are just dismissing the work one of our spies had done in the
name of partisanship. They must really hate America.

Jane has more on Fitzgerald going back to work.

Rep. Bill Young Proves His Hate

Posted 2/2/06 at 3:23pm by jamie

So I wake up, do my morning check of news media and blogs. I come to one of
my favorite sites,

Think Progress
, and see a quote from Rep. Bill Young which appears in
today's

Washington Post
:

Young said he wouldn't be so mad if it were just Sheehan. "I totally
disagree with everything she stands for," he said. But by removing his wife,
Gainer's officers clearly "acted precipitously," Young said

Rep. Young, you took an oath to uphold the constitution. Where the hell does
it say in there that rules and laws should only apply to those whose views
oppose yours? Granted, it turns out no laws or rules were broken by your wife or
Cindy, but the Capital Police got one thing right - they removed both people.
They didn't exercise partisanship in that decision. The difference in treatment
between the two is a different story however. Your wife didn't get arrested and
manhandled by the police, even after she stood up on the floor of the House and
shouted "Shame Shame". Cindy did and the witness accounts of that pretty much
says they had no reason to treat her in such a manner.

So now we see how the Republican party, the party of corruption, feels about
the law. It should only apply to the ones who have opposing views. Bill Young
doesn't even deserve to be called a Representative because I am sure a majority
of who he represents do not share this view. True, a comment like his is
something Cindy's lawyers will love to use in the upcoming lawsuit.

If you want to contact Bill Young his email is:
Bill.Young@mail.house.gov. Let him
know how you feel.

The Return of Gore

Posted 1/12/06 at 5:19pm by jamie

This should really spark a heated discussion and calls of partisanship from
the right:

Former Vice President Al Gore will deliver a scathing speech Monday at
Constitution Hall in Washington -- just blocks from the White House -- at
which he will declare America is faced with a constitutional crisis, RAW
STORY has learned.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Day speech is set to take place at noon at
the Daughters of the American Revolution's Constitution Hall. Gore will be
introduced by onetime Georgia Republican congressman Bob Barr.

A source close to the erstwhile vice president related details of Gore's
expected speech to RAW STORY Thursday. The source noted that Gore prepares
the final editions of his speeches just before he delivers them, but that
the tenor of the speech would focus on what the Tennessee Democrat has
described as a President acting above the law

here
.

We can expect the right wing pundits to counter with "Gore is trying to set
the stage for a 2008 White House run" or something along those lines. One key
here is the fact that Bob Barr will be introducing him. Barr has been one of the
most outspoken people on the right when it comes to condemning Bush's
warrantless wiretaps.

Hold Everyone Accountable

Posted 9/6/05 at 4:13pm by jamie

The blame game in the wake of the hurricane is in full
swing. We are starting to witness the victims of partisanship in the images of
floating bodies around Louisiana. It is the most dreadful price to pay for
political bickering.

I am a Democrat, and I do hold Louisiana Governor Blanco
responsible for not acting properly following the hurricane. Her and Bush
avoiding each other yesterday was a disgusting site. In a time when people look
to their leaders for guidance, a political cat and mouse game has taken
precedence. That is incredibly unacceptable.

I also blame George Bush for his failure to take charge in
a time when his country needed him the most. Following the disaster, instead of
responding, White House lawyers continued to argue over who had what authority.
This was not the time for that argument. President Bush should have immediately
called the affected Governors and asked what they needed from the federal
government. He hesitated on that. He should have immediately nationalized the
National Guard and had them responding to the region and he hesitated on that.
The military should have been put into immediate action as a support unit. There
was a medical ship sitting off the coast of New Orleans that sat there for five
days doing nothing. As Commanded in Chief, he hesitated on that.

Parts of Mississippi still have victims that have yet to
see the first signs of help, eight days after the storm. Governor Barbour is to
blame for that.

Democratic Hearing On Valerie Plame

Posted 7/22/05 at 5:27pm by jamie

A Democratic Policy hearing just concluded on C-Span 3. The purpose of this
hearing was to find out exactly the ramifications of the ousting of Valerie
Plame and other details surrounding the scandal. It was to say the least -
troubling. Former CIA agents and others from the intelligence community
testified about how serious this issue is.

Larry Johnson, a former agent, explained how the ousting of a CIA agent is a
breach of our national security and causes irreparable harm to our clandestine
operations in the future. He also said that when he went through his initial
training with Valerie Plame that they did not even know the last names of each
other. This is how seriously our CIA takes the process of protecting its agents.

The strongest point made is that the President should act now on the fact
that Karl Rove and Scooter Libby did contribute to the ousting of Valerie Plame.
It is the President's responsibility under our law to ensure the protection of
secrets in the White House, and his failure to act is harming our national
security.

Rep. Louis Slaughter said that this case is far worse than even Watergate.
This has crossed over partisan lines and into the security of our nation.

The fact that the Republican's on Capital Hill refuse to investigate this
issue brings to life a more frightening point. The members on the right will go
to illegal extents to protect their reputation and the President. It is time to
put the partisanship aside and address an issue important to everyone of us and
that is our national security. If you find the time, I implore you to check this
hearing out on C-Span. I will post a link to the video as soon as it becomes available.
