Lou Dobbs Shouldn't Rely Upon The Washington Times As A Source

Posted 2/6/07 at 2:11pm by jamie

Heard about this "Pelosi wants a military jet" crap going on? Well Josh is all over it:

Below we noted that the Washington Times story about Nancy Pelosi's demand for a military aircraft for travel back to her district appears to be a crock. According to Thinkprogress and reporting in Roll Call, former Speaker Denny Hastert used a military plane for travel to history district. But the plane he used couldn't carry enough fuel to fly nonstop across the country.

A Pelosi aide told Roll Call: "The Air Force determined that [Pelosi’s] safety would be best ensured by using a plane that has the fuel capacity to go coast-to-coast. All we’re asking for is what Hastert had."

So this seems to be the issue: a military aircraft for the Speaker has been the rule since 9/11. But a larger plane is needed for Pelosi since she flies back and forth to California, not Illinois.

I can fully understand having the Speaker of the House being granted this kind of security after 9/11. I knew Hastert had it and never complained. The Speaker is 3rd in line for the Presidency and it would be a good idea to make sure they are safe. What gets me is how this is now an issue because Pelosi wants it they want Pelosi to have it.

Of course there have been other similar issues that have not received this amount of attention. Here is one from last year:

It would seem the Secretary of Health & Human Services (HHS), Michael Leavitt, has been using a GulfStream 3 jet that belongs to the Centers for Disease Control for his own private agenda.

My Support Goes To:

Posted 12/28/06 at 1:40pm by jamie

John Edwards:

Two years after his hopes for a Democratic takeover of the White House were narrowly dashed, former vice presidential nominee John Edwards said Thursday that he is making another run at the presidency.

Edwards - who is calling for cuts in poverty, global warming and troops in Iraq - scheduled his kickoff in New Orleans, still devastated from last year's Hurricane Katrina. He chose the site to highlight his signature concern of the economic disparity that divides America.

"I'm here to announce I'm a candidate for president of the United States," Edwards sold NBC's "Today Show" Thursday, one of three back-to-back interviews by the candidate on morning news shows. "I've reached my own conclusion this is the best way to serve my country."

I have been waiting for this news, and couldn't be happier (unless of course Gore decides to run). What would make this perfect is if Obama decided he would run with Edwards (think of an Edwards/Obama ticket). That could very well be possible, considering the number of activities they have been doing together latley. It would also ease the fears of people saying "Obama doesn't have enough experience" and keep the Obama support with Edwards. That ticket would pretty much secure a Democratic White House in 2009.

Opposition to the War Grows - Why Are Americans So Wrong?!?!

Posted 12/12/06 at 3:41pm by jamie

Looks like Americans are still not pleased with Iraq, no matter how many new catch phrases the administration comes up with:

Negative assessments of the war in Iraq -- the central issue in last month's midterm election -- continue to hold down President Bush's job approval ratings and could cast a pall on the final two years of his presidency.

In a new Post-ABC News poll, seven in 10 Americans disapprove of the way the president is handling the situation in Iraq -- the highest percentage since the March 2003 invasion. Six in 10 say the war was not worth fighting.

While both gauges on the war have been negative since late 2004, Bush's approval rating on Iraq has deteriorated further since early October, likely weakened by recent high-profile criticisms of the administration's Iraq policy.

The bleak appraisals of the war include the release last week of the much-anticipated report from the Iraq Study Group, a bipartisan government advisory panel, which described conditions in Iraq as "grave and deteriorating."

Well now, I know that is only one poll. Let's try another just released:

As President Bush weighs options for changing course in Iraq, Americans are more pessimistic on the war and most support a quick withdrawal of U.S. troops, according to a new USA TODAY/Gallup poll.

More than half of the respondents, or 55 percent, want most U.S. troops withdrawn within a year, but only 18 percent believe that will happen, USA Today reported on Tuesday.

What About Blackwell?

Posted 11/10/06 at 3:22pm by jamie

There is a lot of talk going on right now about Michael Steele and what his future holds. There has been talk of him joining Bush's cabinet and even talk that he might replace Ken Mehlman.

With all that speculation, there seems to be something missing. We have another out of work politician that has been loved by the Bush family. What about Ken Blackwell? Blackwell served in Bush 41's administration and is unemployed come first of the year.

Considering all the troubles going on with HUD right now and their secretary, I am wondering if this will become the new job from Blackwell. He did serve as under-secretary for HUD from 1989-1990. True Bush could really scare us and end up appointing him to succeed John Bolton. Blackwell also has experience at the UN, serving as our ambassador to the Human Rights Commission from 1992-1993.

So will Bush come to the rescue of the man who gave him the Presidency in 2004? I am really expecting to see this.

More Talk About Gore In '08

Posted 5/17/06 at 3:06pm by jamie

The talk of a possible Gore run in 2008 is gaining momentum and the AP is on it:

Al Gore is running to California, New York, Utah, Washington, France and points in between to promote "An Inconvenient Truth," a film chronicling his elaborate slide shows to educate people about global warming.

But is the former vice president running for president again?

The answer, he says, is no. Some Democrats are not so sure.

"I'm a recovering politician on about Step 9," Gore told The Associated Press. "But I'm on a different kind of campaign now — to persuade people to take action to solve the climate crisis, and it's always easier when you're focused on one thing."

For most of his adult life, Gore was focused on the presidency. He ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic nomination in 1988 and served as vice president under President Clinton from 1993-2001. He narrowly lost the 2000 presidential campaign to George W. Bush, despite collecting more popular votes than the Texas Republican.

He's a richer man for his loss — literally. Gore is a senior adviser to Google Inc., a member of the Apple Computer Inc., board and co-founder and chairman of an investment firm.

He has done wonders for himself and also trying to do wonders for the planet. I don't know if there could be a better choice for the White House in 2008 and I would love to see Gore run and win it.

Bush Now In The 20's

Posted 5/12/06 at 4:27am by jamie

Oh yeah - the days of wishing for the 30's are now here:

President Bush’s job-approval rating has fallen to its lowest mark of his presidency, according to a new Harris Interactive poll. Of 1,003 U.S. adults surveyed in a telephone poll, 29% think Mr. Bush is doing an “excellent or pretty good” job as president, down from 35% in April and significantly lower than 43% in January.

Roughly one-quarter of U.S. adults say “things in the country are going in the right direction,” while 69% say “things have pretty seriously gotten off on the wrong track.” This trend has declined every month since January, when 33% said the nation was heading in the right direction. Iraq remains a key concern for the general public, as 28% of Americans said they consider Iraq to be one of the top two most important issues the government should address, up from 23% in April. The immigration debate also prompted 16% of Americans to consider it a top issue, down from 19% last month, but still sharply higher from 4% in March.

Look out Nixon - Bush is out to beat you now.

The Sinking Continues

Posted 5/8/06 at 8:16pm by jamie

Can we say OUCH:

President Bush's approval rating has slumped to 31% in a new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll, the lowest of his presidency and a warning sign for Republicans in the November elections. The survey of 1,013 adults, taken Friday through Sunday, shows Bush's standing down by 3 percentage points in a single week. His disapproval rating also reached a record: 65%. The margin of error is +/- 3 percentage points.

"It is a challenging political environment," acknowledges Tracey Schmitt, a spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee, "but we are confident that ultimately voters in November will recognize that a Democrat Congress would simply not be equipped to ensure either economic or national security for our nation."

Bush's fall is being fueled by erosion among support from conservatives and Republicans. In the poll, 52% of conservatives and 68% of Republicans approved of the job he is doing. Both are record lows among those groups.

Not long before he will be wishing he was back in the 30's.

Now is the time to really get that Democrat message out. I will have a video of Wes Clarke up soon to help with that.

Why Does Arlen Specter Want To Support Our Enemies?

Posted 4/27/06 at 6:35pm by jamie

That is precisely what the administration, the GOP and its mouthpieces would say if a Democrat was talking about this:

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter said Thursday he is considering legislation to cut off funding for the Bush administration's secret domestic wiretapping program until he gets satisfactory answers about it from the White House.

"Institutionally, the presidency is walking all over Congress at the moment," Specter, R-Pa., told the panel. "If we are to maintain our institutional prerogative, that may be the only way we can do it."

Specter said he had informed President Bush about his intention and that he has attracted several potential co-sponsors. He said he's become increasingly frustrated in trying to elicit information about the program from senior White House officials at several public hearings.

The amendment amounted to a warning to the White House from a powerful but frustrated Senate chairman.

Now I agree with Specter's assessment of the situation but I can not agree with him making it. The problem is that Specter is playing politics on this. When he had Gonzalez before him to testify he should have sworn him in. Instead he turned a blind eye to our Constitution and put faith in his "party", the party of corruption. In turn there are now numerous questions from Gonzalez's session that are unclear and possibly answered falsely. If Specter means what he is saying then he will reopen those hearings, call all the top officials from the DOJ and NSA in and swear every single one in. Wake up - this is only the very basis of our nation we are talking about.

More Stealing Of Our Democracy

Posted 4/7/06 at 7:11pm by jamie

Well is this of any shock:

A group of religious leaders accused the Internal Revenue Service yesterday of playing politics by ignoring its complaint that two large churches in Ohio are engaging in what it says are political activities, in violation of the tax code.

In a letter to Commissioner Mark W. Everson, the clergy members cited reports of political events involving Fairfield Christian Church in Fairfield and World Harvest Church in Columbus and groups affiliated with them that have occurred or been disclosed since they raised the issue in January.

Interesting. The complaint is that these churches were holding fund raisers for Ken Blackwell, who is running for governor here in Ohio. Now the IRS won't investigate them (but they had no problem going after a California church a few months ago). I guess this is Bush's way of thanking Blackwell for giving him the presidency in 2004. Also odd is the timing of this news. This week we have found out that Blackwell (who is currently the states top election official) has financial ties to Diebold and that some Ohio election officials have been indicted in connection with recounts of the 2004 election.

Bush's Approval Rating Continues To Fall

Posted 1/27/06 at 2:01pm by jamie

Bush is down to a 37% approval rating in the latest poll released by
CBS
and the New York Times
. 7 out of 10 respondents also are concerned the
deficit will grow by the end of Bush's Presidency. It will be interesting to see
what the numbers do next week after the State of the Union Address.

Happy Thanksgiving

Posted 11/24/05 at 3:22pm by jamie

This Thanksgiving can be considered one of irony. The holiday is to celebrate
the friendship between the pilgrims and Indians which of course turned into us
taking the land from the Indians and giving them a life time of repression.

This Thanksgiving is a little different though. It is almost a turn around.
While some of the tribes today have been still screwed by members of this
government and their buddies, some are now getting payback. That payback is
coming from Michael Scanlon and the cooperation he is giving the Justice
Department in going after the ones who screwed our current native Americans out
of millions. That is justice and it is sweet.

We can also be thankful this year that we do not have to face George Bush
getting re-elected to office. While we have three years left of the most
incompetent leader, we will make sure his remaining time in office is hell.

We find out news this week that Bush was told ten days after the September 11
attacks he was informed Saddam had no ties to the attack. With our continues
fight and pushing to hold our leaders accountable, this is a milestone in
finding out the true reason for attacking Iraq. That is very promising news that
I am thankful for.

The biggest thing I am thankful for is the extension of Fitzmas this year.
Bush is now looking at a dark cloud hanging over the remainder of his Presidency
as we wonder and find out who in his administration disclosed classified
information. The prosecution of a traitor against our great nation is something
to be extremely thankful for but until that time we can rest assured that
traitor is scared and hiding.

More On The Latest WSJ Poll

Posted 10/13/05 at 4:13pm by jamie

The Wall Street Journal/NBC poll which was released yesterday is very
interesting. It comes from the Journal, which is one of the more conservative
publications in the country. I have been diving into the actual findings of the
poll and want to share them now (to view the actual poll, click
here
- Adobe Acrobat required).

Question 1. Is the country headed in the right
direction?

  10/05 9/05 +/-
Yes 28 32 -4
No 59 57 +2

Ironically the lowest point in history for that question was in July of 1992,
during Bush seniors Presidency when 14% thought the country was heading in the
right direction as opposed to 71% who didn't. The highest point was in September
of 2001 when 72% thought the country was heading in the right direction (which
was taken in the aftermath of 9/11).

Question 2. Do you approve of President Bush's
job?

Bush's Words Backfire, Time to Stand Up

Posted 6/21/05 at 3:40pm by jamie

President Bush decided to run his mouth again, ridiculing Iran’s government
and election process. The problem now is that if backfired on him. Read what was
said in this
AP article:

Iran's spy chief used just two words to respond to White House ridicule of
last week's presidential election: "Thank you." His sarcasm was barely hidden.
The backfire on Washington was more evident.

The sharp barbs from President Bush were widely seen in Iran as damaging to
pro-reform groups because the comments appeared to have boosted turnout among
hard-liners in Friday's election — with the result being that an
ultraconservative now is in a two-way showdown for the presidency.

"I say to Bush: `Thank you,'" quipped Intelligence Minister Ali Yunesi. "He
motivated people to vote in retaliation."

Seems that President Bush is so worried about fixing other countries, however
he sees fit, yet he can not even worry about his own country. This is sadly
enough, just the latest example of how Bush is further alienating the United
States from the rest of the world. In a time when he says he is trying to
promote world piece, he continues to cause more turmoil than good.

Perhaps this is President Bush’s new way of trying to get us into a war. Iran
was one of his so called “axis of evils”, and our troops are just right over the
border. The only problem is we can not handle another war. We are already
fighting two wars with no apparent end in sight. Another war is going to do
nothing but create further anti-American views in the world, and increase our
chances for attack.
