Here’s the press release from his office:

Murtha, 77, was Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense.

This past Saturday, February 6, 2010, Murtha became Pennsylvania's longest serving Member of Congress.

Yummy Rocket Fuel

Posted 4/3/09 at 12:33pm by jamie

Anyone for a big glass of some rocket fuel?

Traces of a chemical used in rocket fuel were found in samples of powdered baby formula, and could exceed what's considered a safe dose for adults if mixed with water also contaminated with the ingredient, a government study has found.

The study by scientists at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention looked for the chemical, perchlorate, in different brands of powdered baby formula. It was published last month, but the Environmental Working Group issued a press release Thursday drawing attention to it.

The chemical has turned up in several cities' drinking water supplies. It can occur naturally, but most perchlorate contamination has been tied to defense and aerospace sites.

Maybe we should find the people responsible for this and head over to their places, then take a nice big piss in their drinking water. I swear it’s safe.

BUSTED!!!!

If there was ever any doubt that FOX news is the media wing of the GOP, then those doubts can be put to rest thanks to Media Matters:

During the February 10 edition of Fox News' Happening Now, co-host Jon Scott claimed that "the Senate is expected to pass the $838 billion stimulus plan -- its version of it, anyway. We thought we'd take a look back at the bill, how it was born, and how it grew, and grew, and grew." In tracking how and when the bill purportedly "grew," Scott referenced seven dates, as on-screen graphics cited various news sources from those time periods. However, all of the sources and cost figures Scott cited, as well as the accompanying on-screen text, were also contained in a February 10 press release issued by the Senate Republican Communications Center. One on-screen graphic during the segment even repeated a typo from the GOP document, further confirming that Scott was simply reading from a Republican press release. The Fox News graphic and the GOP press release both claimed that a Wall Street Journal report that the stimulus package could reach "$775 billion over two years" was published on December 19, 2009 [emphasis added].

Organizing America

This is something we really need. It seems like, for all too long, we have had leaders worrying about their own ambitions instead of bettering the nation. Now we have a leader who thinks outside of the box.

Obama has built an enormous wealth of information from the information he collected during his historic campaign. His mailing list alone will be pivotal in reaching out to citizens in order to get their help in this new project.

Below the fold – the entire press release.

Rick Warren To Give Invocation At The Inauguration – So Much Outrage

Posted 12/17/08 at 8:57pm by jamie

obama-and-rick-warren1 There’s a lot of outrage right now in the blogosphere over Rick Warren being tapped to give the invocation at Inauguration Day. Most of the blame seems to be lying on Obama, so I think it is time to look into some not so well known facts. The actual Inauguration events are held on the west lawn of the U.S. Capital. This means that Congress is in charge of the inauguration – specifically the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies. This committee has been handling the organization of inaugural events since 1901, but Congress has pretty much always had the mantle, since the Constitution does say that Congress picks when and where the inauguration happens.

This year’s JCCIC is chaired by Diane Feinstein. The other members are; Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer, John Boehner and Bob Bennett. They were the ones who picked out the lineup for the inauguration. Here is a link to the press release they issued on it.

National RNC Scolds Tenn. Gop

Posted 2/28/08 at 11:38am by jamie

But do they mean it?

The Republican National Committee this afternoon scolded the Tennessee Republican Party over their use of "Barack Hussein Obama" in an official press release and warned the state party that they will be denounced by the national committee if they use the Democrat's middle name again, said a GOP official close to the RNC.

"The RNC has notified the Tennessee GOP that they do not support or agree with their approach," said this source, requesting anonymity to discuss the private conversation between a staffer in the national committee's political department and a top aide at the state party. "If they don't refrain from doing so again, they will be publicly repudiated by the Republican National Committee."

Maybe they should also scold the Tennessee GOP for hiring a total dumb ass to be their mouthpiece.

Bush Trying To Rape The Land Before Leaving Office

Posted 1/15/08 at 5:50pm by jamie

This is from a press release that went out this afternoon from The Heritage Forests Campaign:

The Bush administration today released documents announcing its intention to remove protections for more than six million acres of roadless areas in the national forests of Idaho. Idaho’s roadless backcountry areas are some of the nation’s last intact national forests and this proposal would open the door to their development by corporate special interests.

[SNIP]

“Last year, a federal judge struck down the Bush administration's attempt to remove protections for our nation’s wild forests. Today, 50 million acres of roadless national forests, in all states except Alaska, are protected from road construction and logging. Now, under the cover of the hectic holiday season, the administration is trying to open the door to new development in the roadless backcountry of Idaho’s national forests.

GOP Blogger To Expose Page's Identity

Posted 10/4/06 at 4:19pm by jamie

This is very sick:

A blogger is vowing to reveal the identity of one of the boys Congressman Mark Foley (R-FL) communicated with, RAW STORY has learned.

William Kerr of Passionate America has pledged to divulge the information at 4 pm Central Time today, October 4. He also plans on discussing the boy's identity on his radio show.

A press release issued by Kerr seems to quietly argue that the boy is not a private person, twice indicating that the information was discovered among publicly-available material.

RAW STORY and other news organizations have been aware of the identities of some boys involved in the scandal since first receiving the now-famous emails. Some even failed to redact one boy's email address from the messages published. None have, as of yet, deliberately identified any of the boys involved.

"There is the possibility that this story will not be well received by the [sic] some major news media," Kerr's release notes. "Mr. Kerr's evidence has been checked by many people to be accurate."

Because in their mind Foley did no wrong, it was the children Foley contacted that were at fault. That's right. The Wingnuts now want to go after children. Just the same as the insurgents and al Qaeda. They want to use children in their war. That is how sick they really are!

Here is what the "fair and balanced" FOX news has resorted to today.

Yesterday the DNC sent out a press release about the Clinton interview. Within that statement, it said this:

To view President Clinton's appearance on Fox News Sunday, go to: http://releases.usnewswire.com/redir.asp?ReleaseID=73056&Link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYm1TH23e9E

Now click that link and you will be taken to a YouTube page which says the following:

This video has been removed at the request of copyright owner Fox News Network, LLC because its content was used without permission

Hmm interesting. I did a quick search for the video and every hit that came up had the same message. After that I went to YouTube's "Most Viewed (Today)" page. The first two videos?

Bill Clinton Blames Others For 911
Clinton: "You have that smirk on your face"

So the titles that have more of a right wing slant and go after Clinton are allowed to remain on YouTube's site, yet the clips that just called titled it as an interview or more favored Clinton are removed. It is also interesting that these videos, which still remain, were added yesterday (so it doesn't mean someone just popped them up). I don't blame YouTube for this, as I understand they have no way of knowing every video on their site. I do blame FOX news, who apparently searched through to find titles or postings of the videos they did not like and want it pulled, but ignored the titles that were critical of Clinton.

Bush Open's Mouth and Inserts Foot

Posted 9/13/05 at 5:03am by jamie

Today Bush showed a new level of callousness that is mind
blowing. While talking to reporters he had to really stretch in order to pat him
self on the back.

The President was asked when he knew the storm was severe.
He told reporters:

I knew a big storm was coming on Monday, that’s why I
addressed the nation on Monday morning.

Now this is the first statement that really got me
thinking, so I went back a few weeks in time. The storm hit on the morning of
Monday August 29. If he is trying to gain brownie points then saying he knew
about it that morning would be sure to make him look more ignorant to the facts
of this storm.

The Monday before the storm hit was Monday August 22. On
August 23, the
National Hurricane Center issued a statement that Tropical Storm
twelve had formed over the Bahamas. The following day, the National Hurricane
Center updated the status of this storm to Tropical Storm Katrina, becoming the
eleventh named storm of the season. The following evening, on Thursday the 25
the storm made landfall in Florida as a category 1.

Friday, August 26 is when the storm really changed on
everyone. That is when it kept picking up strength and started heading towards
the gulf.

So, we can now rule out Monday August 22 as being the day
the President address the nation about this storm. Now if he would have made
this statement on Monday, August 29, then he would have been kind of late
(something that would not be shocking from him), considering early in the
morning on that day was when Katrina was already coming to shore.
