108 Voting Machines Shut Down In Kentucky

Posted 11/4/08 at 1:28pm by jamie

And here we go:

More than 100 voting machines in Kenton County have been shut down on a judge's order.

Secretary of State spokesman Les Fugate said at least two machines in Kenton County weren't properly registering straight-ticket votes.

The malfunctions could affect the tightly contested state Senate race between incumbent Republican Jack Westwood of Crescent City and Democrat Kathy Groop, an activist with a public relations background.

Hopefully a left ran government will do away with these destroyers of democracy.

Deep Thought

I was just thinking about this campaign season. John McCain has continuously said he "knows how to win wars". In war a key aspect is winning over the people through public relations. In that sense war is much like a political campaign. Looking at how this election is going we need to ask McCain who really knows how to win wars. It seems like Obama has the upper hand in that.

Bush's Speech - Another Let Down

Posted 11/30/05 at 4:03pm by jamie

What a day. We have heard that the President is going to deliver this major
speech today about progress in Iraq and lay out a plan for ending this war.
Instead we got the same old rhetoric of "more of the same".

The White House has released a new guide entitled “National Strategy for
Victory in Iraq” which can be viewed

here
. I have quickly looked through it and it is basically Bush speeches put
into writing.

Think Progress
has this to say on the new propaganda booklet.

After two-and-a-half years and 2,110 U.S. troop fatalities, the Bush
administration released what it calls a “National Strategy for Victory in
Iraq” (NSVI). The problem is, it’s not a new strategy for success in Iraq,
it’s a public relations document. The strategy describes what has transpired
in Iraq to date as a resounding success and stubbornly refuses to establish
any standards for accountability. It dismisses serious problems such as the
dramatic increase in bombings as “metrics that the terrorists and insurgents
want the world to use.” Americans understand it’s time for a new course in
Iraq. Unfortunately, this document is little more than an extended
justification for a President “determined to stay his course.”

They have a very detailed analysis of this booklet and Bush's speech which
you can read
here.

Bush Takes Responsibility

Posted 9/13/05 at 5:52pm by jamie

Bush has accepted full responsibility for the governments failed response in
the days immediately following Katrina's land fall. "To the extent the federal
government didn't fully do its job right, I take responsibility," Bush said in a
joint press conference with Iraq's President this after noon.

Bush did reaffirm his desire to find out "what went right and what went
wrong".

This is actually kind of a shocking position for the President to take. His
typical arrogance seems to be going by the way side as he faces the lowest
approval rating in his career, hovering just above Nixon's approval at the time
he resigned.

This should make for a more interesting speech tonight as he takes this
responsibility in front of the nation. Myself, I am not to optimistic that it is
a much needed turn around into the way Bush is running the country. I think this
is more of a public relations "necessity" being initiated by his declining
approval rating and growing questions over the disaster.

More Trouble For Duke Cunningham

Posted 8/26/05 at 11:18pm by jamie

Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham allegedly demanded and recieved a bribe from a
Pentagon contractor. Duke's defense is trying to play it down since the
allegations did not come in the form of an indictment.

"This complaint is not a serious legal filing; it's a public relations
exercise, It cites no testimony, no documents – in short, no evidence. Duke
Cunningham strongly denies these allegations and we will contest them in court
as soon as the judge permits us to do so."

That was the statement released by Duke's lawyers.

Duke is just one of the numerous Republican's drowning in scandal, however he
appears to be the lone scandal. All the other scandals surrounding the GOP seem
to involve the vast fortunes of Jack Abramoff, while the Duke seemed to go out
on his own to create his own scandal.

This is just furter evidence of the corruption that seems to follow the
Republican party as they continue to ruin our country. Further evidence into
their concern of personal wealth over the betterment of the country can be seen
in legislation passed by this Congress. Every bill passed has benefited the
corporations of the country while none have benefited the common working person.
In short, this is the corporations Congress.

about the Duke's alleged crimes.
