The Weekly Radio Address

Posted 3/28/09 at 10:35am by jamie

This week President Obama talks about the flooding going on in North Dakota and ties that to a need for public service.

Exit thought – should we get rid of Fargo? I mean they keep having all this flooding going on. I am kidding of course, but wasn’t that what the Republicans were saying about New Orleans?

President Obama’s First Weekly Address

Posted 1/24/09 at 10:23am by jamie

I guess we can’t call it a weekly radio address anymore since Obama is sticking with the YouTube format also. This is so revolutionary. Instead of hearing the President speak weekly, if you happen to be around a radio that is carrying it, now we can watch him address the nation when we want on the internet.</p>

The subject this week…….(dramatic pause)……. The stimulus package.

Transcript available here.

President Tech

This is what happens when you elect a President who understands the world of technology and how most people now get their news and information:

Today, President-elect Obama will record the weekly Democratic address not just on radio but also on video -- a first. The address, typically four minutes long, will be turned into a YouTube video and posted on Obama's transition site, Change.gov, once the radio address is made public on Saturday morning.

The address will be taped at the transition office in Chicago today.

"This is just one of many ways that he will communicate directly with the American people and make the White House and the political process more transparent," spokeswoman Jen Psaki told us last night.

We are experiencing a revolution in Washington and it will help put the people back in our government. That's a win-win situation no matter how you cut it.

Bush Still Dnagling That Carrot

Posted 6/22/08 at 8:58am by jamie

In his radio address yesterday, Bush did more of the "blaming Democrats" for the high oil prices, through their rejection of lifting the offshore drilling ban:

First, we should expand American oil production by increasing access to the Outer Continental Shelf, or OCS. Experts believe that the OCS could produce enough oil to match America's current production for almost ten years. The problem is that Congress has restricted access to key parts of the OCS since the early 1980s. So I've called on the House and Senate to lift this legislative ban and give states the option of opening up OCS resources off their shores while protecting the environment. There's also an executive prohibition on exploration in the OCS, which I will lift when Congress lifts the legislative ban.

Here's what the right-wing Wall Street Journal said about it this past week:

Mr. Bush argued that leaving most of America’s immense offshore oil-and-gas resources off-limits was “outdated and counterproductive,” and he called on Congress to end its quarter-century ban. Fair enough. But the ban actually has two components, one of which is a 1990 executive order; like launching a warhead, both keys must be turned. Mr. Bush said he would only turn his after Congress did.

Catch that? There are actually two bans in place. The one Bush conveniently fails to mention is the 1990 Presidential ban put in place by his father. Funny how that works. Even right wing bloggers like Malkin are calling Bush's bluff on this.

We get some Bushit next week!

Oh joy:

President George W. Bush will address a war-weary American public next week to "lay out a vision" for the U.S. role in Iraq as he tries to sell his strategy in the wake of a crucial report to Congress.

Heading home from an overseas trip on the eve of a political showdown over the unpopular war, Bush used his Saturday radio address to appeal for patience from Democratic lawmakers demanding a timetable for troop withdrawal.

Bush is under mounting pressure to change course in Iraq as top commander David Petraeus and U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker prepare to testify about a troop buildup the president says is making progress but which critics call a failure.

"I urge the members of Congress to listen to these two well-respected professionals -- before jumping to any conclusions," he said.

I like how he wants Congress to listen to "two well-respected professionals". The dumb fuck sure didn't listen to well-respected professionals when they warned of the problems this war would bring. What an idiot.

Bush Continues His Assault

In today's radio address:

To get the votes they needed to pass the bill, the Democrats who control the House also included billions of dollars in domestic and pork barrel spending for local congressional districts. This spending includes things like $74 million for peanut storage, $25 million for spinach growers, and a host of other spending items that have nothing to do with the war. Even with all this extra spending tacked on, the vote in the House was very close. This means that the Democrats do not have enough votes to override my veto.

First off - the Congress controls the power of the purse. It is not up to the President to decide everything that is included within that purse. If that was the case then the President would control the power.

Second - The people of this country voted for this bill yesterday. This started last November when Americans took to the polls and overwhelmingly voted to return the Democrats to power.

People are not buying the lines of bullshit that come out of this White House anymore. We are to suddenly believe that the same administration who was wrong about every single thing regarding Iraq is going to be right about this one? Give me a fucking break! In January, Republicans were saying that within 60-90 days we would see if the surge is working. Well the 60 days is up and it is not working. If anything it will make it harder to prevent secular violence. The insurgents have all moved out of Baghdad and are now spread throughout the country. Great - more widespread carnage to accompany this failed war.

Perhaps the next step to make Bush listen to the people is impeachment hearings. It is time for this failed leader to pay for his errors.

Bush Wants To Fix Healthcare

Posted 2/17/07 at 11:54am by jamie

Wow what a liberal person he is. Here is what he said today during his radio address:

The problem with our current system is clear: health care costs are rising rapidly, more than twice as fast as wages. These rising costs are driving up the price of health insurance and making it harder for working families to afford coverage. These rising costs also make it harder for small businesses to offer health coverage to their employees. We must address these rising costs so that more Americans can afford basic private health insurance.

One of the most promising ways to make private coverage more affordable and accessible is to reform the tax code. Today, the tax code unfairly penalizes people who do not get health insurance through their job. If you buy health insurance on your own, you pay much more after taxes than if you get it through your job. I proposed to end this unfair bias in the tax code by creating a standard tax deduction for every American who has health insurance, whether they get it through their job or on their own.

Bush - As Stupid As Ever

Posted 11/11/06 at 9:57pm by jamie

From Bush's radio address today:

The message of this week's elections is clear: the American people want their leaders in Washington to set aside partisan differences, conduct ourselves in an ethical manner, and work together to address the challenges facing our Nation. This is important work that will demand the hard effort and good faith of leaders from both sides of the aisle, and I pledge to do my part.

(emphasis mine)

This has to be one of the most idiotic things ever said by a United States President. Does he really think it takes a message from the voters to tell them to work in an "ethical manner"? Wasn't this also the same thing he ran on in 2000? So he admitted lying to the American people again. He did nothing to clean Washington up, and in fact made it more corrupt. This clown hit every branch of the stupid tree on his way to the bottom.
