Ohio's Idealogical Crusade Continues. Up Next: Abortions

Posted 6/7/11 at 8:40am by jamie

Since taking control of Ohio in January, the Republicans, lead by Governor John Kasich, have been on a rampage of right wing ideological legislation. Now the Ohio Assembly is set to take up another slice of that agenda:

Abortions in Ohio would be banned at most publicly funded hospitals, clinics and other facilities under a proposal Senate Republicans are considering putting in the state budget, a Senate GOP official told The Associated Press on Monday.

The official, who had direct knowledge of the changes being discussed, requested anonymity because the revisions were still a part of negotiations.

State senators are also weighing a separate amendment to restrict public employees' insurance from covering abortions, the official said. Not included would be those public employees of the state's two chartered counties and chartered municipalities, which account for roughly two-thirds of the cities in the state.

This can be added to the growing list of idealogical legislation either passed or in the process of being passed, which includes: stripping unions of bargaining rights, opening Ohio parks to oil drilling, stopping the voter approved casinos, allowing people to carry guns into bars, etc., etc., etc.

The Republicans have no intentions of creating jobs in Ohio. They don't care about our state's economy. All the Republicans are worried about is rushing through an agenda based upon their social agenda.

Attn. Apple: Here Comes The Hearings

Posted 4/26/11 at 2:06pm by jamie

Sen. Al Franken is still on a rampage over the recent news of Apple iOS devices recording their users every moves and now he will be holding a hearing:

Senator Al Franken (D-MN) has stepped up his pressure on Apple CEO Steve Jobs, announcing on Monday that he will hold hearings on the recent revelation that Apple iPhones and iPads are secretly tracking and storing their users' locations.

"The same technology that has given us smartphones, tablets, and cell phones has also allowed these devices to gather extremely sensitive information about users, including detailed records of their daily movements and location," Franken, Chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology and the Law, said in a statement posted on his website.

"This hearing is the first step in making certain that federal laws protecting consumers' privacy-particularly when it comes to mobile devices-keep pace with advances in technology," he added.

Franken said he has invited representatives from Apple and Google to attend the hearing, titled, "Protecting Mobile Privacy: Your Smartphones, Tablets, Cell Phones and Your Privacy." The hearing is scheduled for May 10.

I can’t wait to see who shows up and what they have to say. Hopefully more members of Congress, from both sides of the aisle, will get in on this.

Alan Simpson - Another Old Man That Yells At Clouds

Posted 3/8/11 at 8:33am by jamie

Alan Simpson, the Republican co-chair of President Obama's debt commission, decided to go on another rampage yesterday:

The co-chairman of President Obama’s deficit commission tried to scold the elderly on Monday for complaining about their Social Security funds being targeted, but instead he found himself making a reference to “Snoopy Snoopy Poop Dogg.”

“This is a fakery,” Simpson said on Fox News. “If they care at all about their children or grandchildren, and sometimes I doubt that – I think, you know, grandchildren now don’t write a thank-you for the Christmas presents, they’re walking on their pants with the cap on backwards listening to the enema man and Snoopy Snoopy Poop Dogg, and they don’t like them!”

The “Climategate” Hoax Hoax!

Posted 2/25/11 at 12:35pm by jamie

Republicans went on a rampage last year claiming that scientists the world over engaged in the historically largest act of collusion ever to coax the world into believe the climate was in trouble. Now we are finding out (yet again) that these people on the right were trying to dope the world into believing their vast conspiracy theories:

A Republican-led federal probe of climate scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration found no evidence that they manipulated data, after leaked e-mails in 2009 sparked the "climategate" controversy.

The investigation was conducted by the inspector general of the Commerce Department. It reviewed the 1,073 leaked messages, particularly the 289 that were exchanged with NOAA scientists, and interviewed NOAA chief Jane Lubchenco and her staff about them.

"We did not find any evidence that NOAA inappropriately manipulated data," the inspector general concluded in a recent report. It also cleared Lucbhenco for testifying before Congress that the e-mails did not weaken the science of climate change.

The probe was requested by Sen. James Inhofe of Oklahoma, the top Republican on the environment committee, who has called global warming "the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people."

I wonder how much all these probes are costing our country?

Could The Indymedia Case Involve Domestic Terrorism

Posted 11/10/09 at 3:36pm by jamie

I decided to start a new post on this. You can read my early posting here.

One of the big questions surrounding today’s revelation that the Justice Department had issued a subpoena against the website indymedia, including a gag order, is what for? It’s apparent that the Justice Department was working on some auspice of the Patriot Act and despite all the conspiracies on the right it also is evident that this all occurred under the Bush Administration.

Located in the limited documents we have are a couple of interesting facts. First off is that this case was taking place in Indiana and secondly a certain date– 6/25/08:

While doing a bunch of Googling I did come across a post on indymedia from that date. The author is going on a rampage about the proposed super highway that would run from Mexico to Canada. In it an admission is made:

What Could Have Been Behind Major Nidal Malik Hasan?

Posted 11/6/09 at 8:48am by jamie

There is still a lot of speculating going on, but the most reasonable sounding thing I have heard so far is this:

His cousin said Maj Hasan had been resisting such a deployment.

"He hired a military attorney to try to have the issue resolved, pay back the government, to get out of the military. He was at the end of trying everything," Nader Hasan told Fox News.

He also said that Nidal Malik Hasan had been battling racial harassment because of his "Middle Eastern ethnicity".

(emphasis added)

Even on The Today Show they were interviewing people who know Maj. Hasan and talked about how much he heard things like “sand nigger” or “terrorist” yelled at him.

While the right is trying to paint Hasan as some Islamic terrorist, just look at the guy. He was American born and just spent countless years going through school to become a Psychiatrist, MD. This wasn’t a man planning on doing something like this, this was a man who snapped.

So our question now is how to fix our relationship with Muslims. The military really needs to take a long, hard inner look at itself and come up with a way to limit incidents like this.

And the fix isn’t limited to the military alone – it also must include society. For example, look at this:

An Example Of Who Shouldn’t Be A Police Officer

Posted 7/30/09 at 11:05am by jamie

There has been a lot of talk about Justin Barrett, a police officer with Boston. He made fame yesterday when it was exposed that he wrote a letter to the media and referred to Henry Gates as a “banana eating jungle monkey'”. if you missed it, here’s the run down:

The law enforcement official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said Officer Justin Barrett referred to the black scholar as a " jungle monkey" in the letter, written in reaction to media coverage of Gates's arrest July 16.

Barrett, a 36-year-old who has been on the job for two years, was stripped of his gun and badge yesterday and faces a termination hearing in the next week, said police spokeswoman Elaine Driscoll. He has no previous disciplinary record, she said.

Barrett will be represented by the police union in his hearing, as he should be. This gets into a very iffy area of our first amendment rights. One way he may have stripped himself of that protection though is by identifying himself as a police officer in his “anonymous” email.

But there is something more interesting here. In Barrett’s letter he made a statement that should be a warning sign that a person does not understand the very fundamental’s of our nation’s laws:

Rabid RIght

Posted 6/3/09 at 2:14pm by jamie

Since the assassination of Dr. Tiller the right has been on a rampage. They are even taking to public airwaves to praise the assassination and, in some cases, promote more. Rachel did a great rundown of this lunacy last night.

I really hope the feds are listening to these idiots out there and end up hauling them in for questioning. They are using public airwaves to push for people to violate the law of this land. That alone is illegal.

Defending Bobby – A Survival Guide For The GOP

Posted 2/26/09 at 11:49am by jamie

Again, I am writing this as a life long Democrat, but a Democrat who cherishes our need for opposing ideas in order to provide the best for our nation.

Part of the Republicans biggest problem is their ego, which I mentioned in my previous post.

I think another example of this can be seen in Bobby Jindal. So much attention has been given to him for the response Tuesday night that we seem to have forgotten the simple fact that it is the Republican response, not the Bobby Jindal response. He was just the messenger. Now we see Republicans and conservatives throwing Bobby under the bus for delivering the message of the RNC.

Perhaps that should send up the warning flags. You take away the big crowds and enthusiastic speaker, you are pretty much left with nothing. That’s what the voters have seen for the past four years and why the Republicans have been getting slammed at the polls.

I too have been lost in the “laugh at Bobby” mentality engulfing our country, but then I realized that it isn’t just Bobby, but the GOP as a whole. Perhaps that’s why Rush Limbaugh went on a rampage yesterday against any Republican criticizing Jindal.

So what should the Republicans do now? Well first off they need to declare war – a war on people like Limbaugh. It doesn’t have to be nasty, but these people need to realize that if the Republican Party is to survive that they need to entertain a wider range of ideas and philosophies. Destroying their own party because some people don’t agree with them isn’t the answer to regaining majority status, but rather the prescription for denying it. If they don’t do this then the GOP is no longer a party, but rather a special interest group.

Wow They Are Desperate

Posted 10/15/08 at 3:53pm by jamie

The wingnuts have been in an uproar over a "news article" posted by some group called African Press International, in which Michelle Obama allegedly calls the organization and goes on a rampage. Some of the more notable journalists on the right have reported this is entirely false, yet the wingnut hysteria continues. Here's what they are saying at the loony bin known as Newsbusters:

Double WOW! As I stated, African Press International has been in existence for over two years and has filed over a thousand stories. So will the MSM investigate this? Meanwhile this story is gaining enormous steam in the Blogosphere.

UPDATE: Because of the high level of interest in this story, API has just posted a phone number where they can be contacted for verification. Calls must be made between Oct. 16 and 18. Here is the number posted on their site: 004793299739. To call from the USA, the number is: 011-4793299739.

Thousands of news stories? Really? Well I decide to check them out in Google news search and all I found was four mentions of this big organizations. All today, nothing reported by them, just people reporting on this scam.

The Va. Tech Shootings And How The Right Is Wrong

Posted 4/17/07 at 9:30am by jamie

My blood boiled yesterday as I started reading right-wing blogs immediately jump on the "give everyone guns" mentality following the shooting at Virginia Tech. Details will still emerging on the deadliest mass shooting in our country's history, yet the wingnuts figured they had a political card to play here. Michelle Malkin had a post immediately following the breaking news, which linked to another post and said this:

Just imagine if students were armed. We no longer need to imag[in]e what will happen when they are not armed.

Ok - I'll play along. Let me imagine that. If we had students armed, there is a chance so many would not have died on April 16, 2007 on Virginia Tech, but how many would die on other days? How may boyfriends would get pissed at their girlfriends, or find them cheating and decide to use that "justice maker" they have under their coat?

Let's look at that another way. The descriptions show the gunman barging into classes and opening fire. If students had guns, chances are they wouldn't have time to react. Who says they even know how to shoot the damn thing or a good aim? Instead we could see a higher fatality rate yesterday. Another question remains unanswered - did the shooter use all his ammo? Did he take his life when he had only 1 bullet left to do so? If the students had guns, that could have given the shooter much more ammo to continue his rampage and we might be looking at a higher number of fatalities today.

As typical for the right, history teaches nothing. Sure there were no mass shootings like this back in the 1800's, but there was a lot more killings. Why? Everyone had guns. They were very easy to come by and people needed them just to hunt so they could eat.

Is Conrad Burns A Firefighter Now?

Posted 8/19/06 at 3:54am by jamie

He went on his little rampage about over-paid, lazy firefighters a couple of weeks ago, but check out Burns in action in the U.S. Senate.

So let me get this straight. A firefighter who makes an average of $30,000 - $40,000 a year goes out and risks life and limb fighting a fire in intense heat. They sit down for a break and they are called lazy by the Senator. (Oh and I know first hand how physically exhausting firefighting is because I use to be a firefighter).

Now Conrad Burns who makes over $140,000 a year and sits in a big cushy chair in D.C. is caught sleeping on the job. This lazy ass hypocrit needs his pompous ass kicked right out of D.C.

Everyone - help get Burns ass burnt. He deserves it and you can help out here.
