Hannity's Bogus Poll

Posted 7/24/06 at 3:54pm by jamie

Bowing down to Rick Santorum and placing his lips on Santorum's ass, Hannity has taken the lead in suck ups for lies this year. On his site hannity.com, Hannity ran the following poll:

hannitypoll.jpg

This of course follows Santorum talking about the WMDs found in Iraq. Of course what Santorum and Hannity both fail to mention is that these were the weapons from the early 90's that were essentially destroyed. These are the same weapons that we have known about and the U.N. weapons inspectors even admitted being destroyed. This is the typical style of lies these warmongers will resort to in order to win elections. They want to try and scare Americans into voting for Republicans when in fact these are the biggest pussies in the country.

Another interesting poll running on Hannity's site right now asks "Do you think Israel is justified in attacking Hezbollah?" Interesting results in that one. Currently 74% of the respondents say Israel has gone to far. I am sure the webmasters at Hannity's site will quickly change those numbers around to something more right wing sounding.

ACTION ALERT: Stop Santorum's Greed And Save Some Lives

Posted 7/11/06 at 4:48pm by jamie

I first started this blog almost 14 months ago. I was not one of the political bloggers that came from a site like Daily Kos or MyDD, instead I just went out and did it.

I have always had a deep passion for politics, and that was one of my motivations to jump into the world of blogging. I have also taken a great interest in the weather, which should be obvious - I mean what other blog offers current weather conditions, forecasts and weather maps. When these two passions collided, IntoxiNation was born.

One of my first posts was regarding a bill sponsored by Rick Santorum, S.B. 786, which attacks the National Weather Service. This bill is meant to remove all the free data the National Weather Service has available via their website. Santorum's argument is that "the NWS should focus on Hurricanes". Of course they also focus on other issues like tornadoes, floods and forest fires.

The actual motivation behind this bill lies in one of Santorum's contributors. Joel Myers, the President of AccuWeather is a Santorum contributor and a major contributor to the Republican Party as a whole. He has donated close to $50,000 to Republican's and Republican PACS.

This bill is so absurd that it doesn't even deserve debate in this do nothing session of Congress. Santorum feels the NWS should only focus on actual hurricanes, yet as anyone with a little intelligence knows, you must forecast the good weather to know when the bad weather is coming. Further, constant forecast models add to the accuracy of future forecasts and also help decrease the time needed to issue life saving warnings. This was evident last year when Katrina hit and it was the NWS that was sounding the alarms. The President and other's were the ones who chose to ignore those warnings.

The WaPo Is Creepy

Posted 5/24/06 at 9:39pm by jamie

On April 18, 2005, the Washington Post did a write up about Rick Santorum entitled "Father First, Senator Second". This story was really creepy as it talked about Santorum bringing the dead fetus home from his wife's miscarriage and treating it as part of the family. You can read more about it in my post titled The Creepy Side of Santorum from last July or read the entire article here.

13 months later and the Washington Post does not cease to amaze. They published an article today entitled "Bill Frist: A Doctor at Heart". Again they show us how creepy these Republicans are. Instead of going into details, I urge you to either read the article or check out the great synopsis Aravosis did on it. Both of these articles are about the creepiest thing that could have ever been published in a newspaper.

How About That Ethics Reform Rick?

Posted 2/22/06 at 9:01pm by jamie

Poor Ricky Santorum. The guy can't stay out of trouble:

Progressive ethics watchdog Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in
Washington has filed a complaint with the Senate Ethics Committee alleging
that Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA) violated the Senate Gift Rule by accepting
a mortgage from The Philadelphia Trust Company, a bank that serves affluent
clients, RAW STORY has learned.

The filing comes in response to an article in the American Prospect by
Philadephia Daily News reporter Will Bunch.

The following is a release from CREW, who filed the complaint. Such a
complaint is not a formal complaint, as only senators or congressmembers can
file ethics complaints against other members.

You know it is something when the guy the GOP turns to for ethics reform is
also deep into ethics problems of his own. Get ready for the spin from his

Trying To Keep Washington Corrupt

Posted 1/5/06 at 11:30pm by jamie

To show how seriously Bill Frist is taking the corruption in Washington here
is a nice press release:

CREW CRITICIZES CHOICE OF SANTORUM TO CREATE SENATE ETHICS PACKAGE
Santorum’s Corrupt Behavior Disqualifies Him for Ethics Task Washington, DC
– The choice of Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA) this week to head the ethics
charge in the Senate demonstrates Majority Leader Bill Frist’s (R-TN) deaf
ear to the importance of high ethical standards in the Senate.

According to The Washington Post, shortly before Thanksgiving, Senator
Frist, asked Sen. Santorum to draft a package of lobbying restrictions.

“Senator Santorum’s history of unethical behavior suggests that he is
more likely to undercut any real ethics reform than he is to toughen ethics
rules,” Melanie Sloan, executive director of CREW said today. “We strongly
question Senator Frist’s decision to choose a Senator that CREW listed as
one of the 13 most corrupt Members of Congress.”

Among Sen. Santorum’s unethical conduct:

•Sen. Santorum runs the K Street project, created by conservative
activist Grover Norquist and former Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-TX), in
which he ensures that all top lobbying and trade association jobs are filled
by Republicans;

•Two days before Sen. Santorum introduced a bill that would benefit
private national weather companies at the expense of the National Weather
Service, the Senator's political action committee, America's Foundation,
received a $2,000 donation from the chief executive officer of AccuWeather,
Inc., a leading weather data provider located in State College, PA.;

Changing The Climate In D.C.

Posted 10/10/05 at 5:01pm by jamie

Today the

Washington Post
published an article that should send a greater message of
hope to the Democrats. "For GOP, Election Anxiety Mounts" talks about numerous
Republican Senate candidates opting not to run next year. This of course is
making the Republicans a little nervous.

Prominent Republicans have passed up races in North Dakota and West
Virginia, both GOP-leaning states with potentially vulnerable Democratic
incumbents. Earlier, Republican recruiters on Capitol Hill and at the White
House failed to lure their first choices to run in Florida, Michigan and
Vermont.

Those are just a handful of seats up for grab.

Early polling shows a potential loss of a seat for the Republicans in
Pennsylvania, where Rick Santorum is up for re-election, and one seat in Ohio,
where Paul Hackett is running against incumbent Mike Dewine. In both cases, the
Democratic challenger is ahead by over 8 points in a recent poll conducted by
the

Wall Street Journal
.

Further more, in the same poll, the seat being vacated by Bill Frist is still
showing a Republican hopeful as the leader however his margin of victory has
been slowly slipping away. In August, Ed Bryant was holding about a 13 point
lead. Last month his lead slipped to 9 points over Democrat Harold Ford Jr.

Santorum Exploiting Katrina

Posted 9/10/05 at 5:57pm by jamie

Santorum is putting blame onto NOAA for not giving a good enough warning in
the lead up to Katrina's disastrous landfall. Here is what
WITF is reporting:

Santorum has critical words for forecasters in wake of Katrina 09/09/2005
Damon Boughamer (Washington) -- U.S. Senator Rick Santorum is suggesting
that early mistakes in predicting the path of Hurricane Katrina may be a
symptom of lost focus at the National Weather Service. Santorum, who
introduced legislation earlier this year to curb the output of government
weather forecasters, says tracking life-threatening weather must be central
to what the agency is doing.

Asked about Katrina by WITF, Santorum described weather service warnings
for Florida, where the storm first made landfall, as, quote, “not
sufficient.” Santorum’s bill instructs the government to abandon weather
prediction and data reporting efforts that duplicate private-sector
activity. He came under fire when it was revealed that the head of State
College-based AccuWeather, which would benefit, has given his campaigns
thousands of dollars.

In the wake of a disaster, Santorum once again has taken the argument to a
politically funded level. I

posted
a couple months ago on this bill Santorum is trying to get through,
and it is a joke. It is meant as another way to only help businesses.

The whole argument started when NOAA started releasing forecast and
conditions for the country via an XML feed. They were just releasing data that
they already had, but Accu-Weather was upset over it. Why? Because it would lead
to further competition for them.

The Creepy Side of Santorum

Posted 7/28/05 at 9:24pm by jamie

Senator Rick Santorum has been making the rounds this week
promoting his new book “It Takes a Family: Conservatism and the Common Good”.
Santorum on the outside looks like a nice clean cut guy, very devoted to his
family, who also serves his country on the Senate floor. Before you read to deep
into this guy though, there is a story from April of this year that was
published in the
Washington Post that you should read, as I am not sure if it
gets mention in the book.

In his Senate office, on a shelf next to an autographed
baseball, Sen. Rick Santorum keeps a framed photo of his son Gabriel Michael,
the fourth of his seven children. Named for two archangels, Gabriel Michael was
born prematurely, at 20 weeks, on Oct. 11, 1996, and lived two hours outside the
womb.

Upon their son's death, Rick and Karen Santorum opted not
to bring his body to a funeral home. Instead, they bundled him in a blanket and
drove him to Karen's parents' home in Pittsburgh. There, they spent several
hours kissing and cuddling Gabriel with his three siblings, ages 6, 4 and 1 1/2.
They took photos, sang lullabies in his ear and held a private Mass.

"That's my little guy," Santorum says, pointing to the
photo of Gabriel, in which his tiny physique is framed by his father's hand. The
senator often speaks of his late son in the present tense. It is a rare instance
in which he talks softly.

Another Free Government Service Under Fire

Posted 6/6/05 at 2:54am by jamie

A nice summer evening. Sitting outside, looking up at the sky and watching
the clouds go by. We are under a typical summer time storm watch, and there are
small storms just to the north. Of course I was already informed of this via my
Weather Bug, an advertiser supported
application, that I have installed on my computer.

Then suddenly I remember an article I read in April, a month before the birth
of my blog. The article, published by the

Palm Beach Post
brought me out of the clouds and into the reality once again
that our government does not care about the citizens, but rather the corporate
contributors that support their costly campaigns.

Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pa, introduced

Senate Bill 786
on April 14 of this year. This bill would limit the data
that the National Weather Service, a government agency, would make available to
the public. The bill is the result of a fueling debate between the
NWS and the private sector over
publishing forecast data.

The NWS recently introduced a new free service on their
website that provides the public, free of charge, forecast information for their
particular zone. This has upset the corporate weather services such as
Accuweather, who fears this free
service could cost them.
