senior moment

Nations Don't Invade Other Nations?

Posted 8/14/08 at 7:44am by jamie

Here's John McCain yesterday saying that "in the 21st century, nations don't invade other nations".

Interesting comment. I thought we invaded Iraq and Afghanistan in the 21st century. I guess it could be another senior moment.

Speaking of senior moments, here's a pop quiz. Who is President of the United States? Apparently McCain thinks he is. What the hell is with him sending a "delegation" to Georgia? He does not chair any committees in the Senate, so he is acting on his own. If Obama did this, the Republicans would be screaming that he is trying to undermine the duties of the President.

I agree with Howie, if the Republicans were smart they would dump McCain in St. Paul. This guy has no concept of the world, or even the duties (or lack there of) of being a candidate. He's a danger to this country, a danger that makes Dick Cheney look sane.

Strong Foreign Policy?

Is that what we say about John McCain? Read this then answer that question:

"I think it's serious. . . . It's a serious situation, but there's a lot of things we need to do. We have a lot of work to do and I'm afraid it's a very hard struggle, particularly given the situation on the Iraq/Pakistan border," said McCain, R-Ariz., said on "Good Morning America."

(emphasis added)

Iraq/Pakistan border? Let me pull out a map real quick

map.gif

Hmmm perhaps he is calling Iran a border now?

Seriously - I am sure the defenders will write this off as another "senior moment", which, if that's the case, he suffers from numerous times a day. I can't buy that anymore. I believe that the Republicans have put him up on this pedestal of being a "foreign policy expert", and McCain isn't. Considering the nature of the world we live in, do we really want someone who has so many gaffs in foreign policy? People really need to think about this, as our future depends on it.

I don't care if it's a "senior moment", or he just doesn't know - either excuse is unacceptable for someone who wants to be our next President.

UPDATE:

Here's the video of McCain's geography relocation:

Is This The Leader We Want?

McCain talks about Obama missing stuff, well look here:

It turns out that presumptive Republican nominee Sen. John McCain has attended even fewer Afghanistan-related Senate hearings over the past two years than Obama's one. Which is a nice way of saying, McCain, R-Ariz., the top Republican on the Senate Armed Service Committee, has attended zero of his committee's six hearings on Afghanistan over the last two years.

[SNIP]

A review of the Senate Armed Services Committee hearings as listed on the committee Web site for the past two years reveals that McCain's committee has held six hearings that included the word "Afghanistan" in the title or Central Command -- which overseas U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

McCain missed them all.

(emphasis added)

McCain constantly attacks Obama on missing hearings, yet Mr. 'Foreign Policy' hasn't even mustered the gumption to attend one meeting on Afghanistan? This guy is a total joke and fraud, but I got a feeling it will be written off as another "senior moment".

Rule One Of Being A Foreign Policy Expert

Know world geography:

At a press availability today, John McCain expressed concern about relations between Russia and a country that hasn't existed for quite some time:

"I was concerned about a couple of steps that the Russian government took in the last several days. One was reducing the energy supplies to Czechoslovakia. Apparently that is in reaction to the Czech's agreement with us concerning missile defense, and again some of the Russian now announcement they are now retargeting new targets, something they abandoned at the end of the Cold War, is also a concern."

Czechoslovakia, of course, split into two separate countries in 1993.

McCain has failed rule one on numerous occasions. Another "senior moment", or just plain ignorance? Either way, do we really want him running this nation? I would say NOT!

Watch Him Squirm

John McCain is digging for an answer when confronted about his vote against insuring contraceptives over Viagra.

McCain seems to have a problem remembering how he voted for different items. He also slammed Obama for missing a vote, that McCain himself missed. Is this another "senior moment", or can we go ahead and diagnose him with Alzheimer's?

Speaking Of Media Propaganda

Andrea Mitchell continues to push it:

On MSNBC Live, Andrea Mitchell failed to challenge Republican strategist Trent Duffy's false claim that Sen. John McCain "was one of the first to call for Secretary Rumsfeld's resignation." In fact, as his campaign itself has reportedly admitted, McCain did not call for former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld's resignation. While McCain expressed "no confidence" in Rumsfeld in 2004, he reportedly "said his comments were not a call for Rumsfeld's resignation."

Here's the video of Mitchell's interview:

John McCain never once called for the resignation of Rumsfeld, instead he just started saying he did after it became political capital. I guess it's just another "senior moment" for the senile old man.

But His Lobbyists Are Different?

Posted 5/16/08 at 7:56pm by jamie

Isn't that what McCain kept telling us - that his lobbyists were different? Well now it looks like he is concerned about it:

John McCain's campaign is asking staff members to disclose all previous lobbying ties following the resignation of two officials linked to a firm that worked for Myanmar's military junta.

A memo from McCain's campaign manager, Rick Davis, also instructs staff to make certain they are no longer registered as lobbyists or foreign agents.

I guess we can chalk all this up to another senior moment for the maverick. Yeah sure - that's what it is.

McCain Loves Loop Holes

Just another example of how McCain says one thing and does another:

Given Senator John McCain’s signature stance on campaign finance reform, it was not surprising that he backed legislation last year requiring presidential candidates to pay the actual cost of flying on corporate jets. The law, which requires campaigns to pay charter rates when using such jets rather than cheaper first-class fares, was intended to reduce the influence of lobbyists and create a level financial playing field.

But over a seven-month period beginning last summer, Mr. McCain’s cash-short campaign gave itself an advantage by using a corporate jet owned by a company headed by his wife, Cindy McCain, according to public records. For five of those months, the plane was used almost exclusively for campaign-related purposes, those records show.

Mr. McCain’s campaign paid a total of $241,149 for the use of that plane from last August through February, records show. That amount is approximately the cost of chartering a similar jet for a month or two, according to industry estimates.

Straight talk takes another hairpin curve. Of course the MSM will brush this under the rug. I guess it's just another "senior moment".

Just Another Senior Moment

McCain has his economic plan:

When Senator John McCain was asked here this afternoon how he plans to
balance the budget, he said that he hoped to do so by stimulating
economic growth - and approvingly cited the example of President Ronald
Reagan

As The Huffington Post points out, and anyone over the age of 35 should remember, Reagan tripled the size of the national deficit. What's even more ironic is how closely Bush's economic plans have followed Reagan's.
