Our Uncertain Future And America’s Inability To Ask Questions

Posted 10/28/10 at 10:15am by jamie

america_dividedNow that we are 5 days away from Election Day, we need to start asking ourselves what our future holds. By all odds we are looking at Republicans regaining control of one house of Congress, if not both. But what are our new leaders promising us? Let’s look:

- Repeal healthcare

- Extend Bush tax cuts

- Cut spending, mainly on things like social programs and infrastructure.

- “Accountability”

But what are the alternatives to these items? Go ahead and repeal healthcare, but then we are left with the same problems we had before. How will the GOP fix our old, broken system?

And if we decide to cut spending on things like Social Security, unemployment, infrastructure and all those other “socialist” programs, what’s the outcome? Is America ready to face a tidal wave of growing homeless, seniors unable to afford to live and collapsing bridges? And even if we do massive cuts on all these items, it still will not offset the deficit increasing Bush tax cuts. In the simplest of terms this is stealing from the poor and giving to the rich, or stealing from the 98% and giving to the 2%.

Think Progress Blogger Stalked By Fox Producers

Here we go with Bill O. sending out his goons again. This time Amanda at Think Progress was the target. Read her entire account of what happened here.

Perhaps its time for O’Reilly to be tested. I have done some work in television in the past and when you tape someone you need a release signed. Now the news is different, as it does have some protection under the first amendment, but is O’Reilly news? No its not. He even admits his show is for opinion.

And if something like this went to court and they sided with FOX, that would open up something new. Bloggers would then have the ability to stalk Bill O’Reilly and “interview” him. Perhaps some simple questions like “why do you think the rape victims deserved what happened?” If bloggers did that and didn’t get pushy to the point of harassment, then it would be a matter of time before we had another one of these moments:

That's Got To Sting!

Republicans HATE Jon Stewart. They feel like he is some liberal God, so they always attack his show saying the viewers are "uneducated" or "not informed". I have heard this same old line on FOX time and time again.

Well let's look at the numbers in a new poll that has just been released by Pew.

Other details are equally eye-opening. Pew judged the levels of knowledgeability (correct answers) among those surveyed and found that those who scored the highest were regular watchers of Comedy Central's The Daily Show and Colbert Report. They tied with regular readers of major newspapers in the top spot -- with 54% of them getting 2 out of 3 questions correct. Watchers of the Lehrer News Hour on PBS followed just behind.

(emphasis added)

Well that doesn't sound like their is a lack of knowledge there. Something that isn't there is any mention of FOX news viewers, or any other cable news for that matter. Oh wait!

Virtually bringing up the rear were regular watchers of Fox News. Only 1 in 3 could answer 2 out of 3 questions correctly. Fox topped only network morning show viewers.

OUCH!!!!! Now I am not going to attack the viewers of FOX. It is not their fault that they can not answer simple questions correctly. Instead we must focus on the teachers (in this case the hosts on FOX). They are the ones letting their viewers down.
