straw poll

Rick Perry Has A Big Sunshine State Problem

Ouch:

Fla poll: Romney 28%, Cain 24, Gingrich 10, Perry 9

Debates matter. So did Florida’s straw poll. Just ask two guys: Herman Cain and Rick Perry.

Cain is now running in second place in Florida now that his support surged nearly 19 percentage points after last month’s Republican Party of Florida’s Presidency 5 debate and straw poll, according to a survey of likely Florida voters conducted by Gainesville-based War Room Logistics, which typically polls for Republicans.

Meantime, Perry’s support plummeted nearly 16 percentage points.

Perry had been tied as a Florida frontrunner with Mitt Romney at about 25 percent on Sept. 20, dropped to third/fourth place with 9 percent of the vote where he’s statistically tied with Newt Gingrich (10 percent).

The GOP field is so volatile that it’s impossible to figure out who will be the nominee. What’s amazing is that the GOP can’t find a solid candidate to go against President Obama, especially given the economy and Obama’s very weak poll numbers.

Blind Following

The number two vote getter for the straw poll at CPAC, Bobby Jindal, clarifies the rules of Republicans to Larry King last night:

King: One more thing. It may be moot now, but RNC Chairman Michael Steele took some shots at Limbaugh and then apologized. What do you make of all of that?

Jindal: Well, I didn't follow the day's events. I'm glad he apologized.

(h/t Attaturk)

So Jindal doesn’t know what all the commotion was about, but he knew Limbaugh must be right? Wow this takes the cake. They have given carte blanche to a man who makes fun of Parkinson's disease, uses racial innuendos to discuss our President, called Hillary Clinton a “hoe”, is a pill addict and a whole slue of other things. And this is the direction the Republican Party wants to do? Again – you guys are fucked.

Something Else To Remember On McCain

He is the defacto nominee of the Republican party, yet voters aren't buying it. They voted for Huckabee yesterday - the third place candidate prior to Romney dropping out. Even the neo-cons at CPAC aren't buying into McCain. In their straw poll this weekend, they voted for the guy who dropped out - Mitt Romney. This shows a severely splintered Republican party. Tuesday is going to be a real tell-tale sign for McCain and the Republicans over all.

2008 - The Race Of All Races

On the weekend that Bill Frist won the Southern Republicans straw poll to be the Presidential nominee in 2008, we find out that his predecessor is now talking about a run for the Oval Office in 08.

Former Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle, accusing the GOP of spreading a message of fear, says he is considering a 2008 presidential bid.

"I haven't ruled anything out or anything in at this point," Daschle said in an interview Saturday night after a hometown dinner in his honor.

"I'm encouraged by the strong support many people have voiced for my candidacy around the country and in South Dakota. I'll make a decision at some point later on this year," he said.

Daschle said President Bush and Republicans have overemphasized the importance of the war on terror, and he said the U.S. is no safer now than it was before the Iraq invasion.

"This country is not more secure when a president infers that he is above the law and can wiretap and eavesdrop on average citizens," he said. "We're not more secure when we turn ports over to foreign countries."

I think Daschle would be the perfect choice for the Democrats in 2008. He showed great leadership skills while he was Senate Majority leader and even provoked the Republicans to do some "sleazy" actions to insure he didn't get re-elected.

Take Your Medicine Republicans - You Deserve It

SCARBOROUGH: The lack of leadership in Washington, D.C., is sickening. If you look at what Republicans did-promised to do in 1994, when they took control of Congress, and see how they've been acting over the past three or four years, the biggest debt and deficit ever. They are irresponsible and reckless on so many levels. I'm embarrassed right now to be a Republican. It's a disgrace because of the lack of leadership.

You can check out the video at Crooks and Liars.

I got a funny feeling many others on the right are sharing the same feelings with Joe right now. They are just ashamed to admit it. There are signs though, you just need to look. Take this AP article that just came out a couple hours ago:

Restless Republicans are already looking beyond the embattled Bush presidency to the 2008 campaign. Nearly 2,000 GOP activists opened a weekend conference Friday to hear from presidential prospects and share strategies on a conservative agenda that many believe Washington has forsaken.

The delegates were voting in an informal "straw poll" to test the popularity of White House hopefuls including those in attendance — Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Sen. John McCain of Arizona, Sen. George Allen of Virginia, Sen. Sam Brownback  of Kansas, Gov. Mike Huckabee of Arkansas and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist of Tennessee

The fact is Bush is a disgrace. He is a disgrace to America and even more of a disgrace to the GOP. He is the President that is destroying America and his party has sat by blindly and allowed it.

The Republicans should feel disgraced right now. Even more, they should be ashamed. They are just as guilty as Bush when it comes to the crap we are in today.
