Be Afraid!

Posted 2/9/06 at 9:09pm by jamie

So Bush is back on the

lead by fear campaign.
This should come as no shock to anyone but the
details seem to have come to a shock for L.A.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said Thursday he was blindsided by President
Bush's announcement of new details on a purported 2002 hijacking plot aimed
at a downtown skyscraper, and described communication with the White House
as "nonexistent."

"I'm amazed that the president would make this (announcement) on national
TV and not inform us of these details through the appropriate channels," the
mayor said in an interview with The Associated Press. "I don't expect a call
from the president — but somebody."

The mayor also suggested that some funding from the Iraq war could be
redirected to homeland security, including the protection of high-risk
targets in Los Angeles. He did not advocate an immediate withdrawal of
troops.

"I go to work every day knowing that we are a target," the mayor said.

So we don't tell cities if there is an attack possibly aimed at them? Much
like every other "threat" Bush says they have foiled, I suspect this is just the
same - a bunch more Bushit!

Taking To The Streets In Pakistan

Posted 1/15/06 at 2:42pm by jamie

Remember last year when protests broke out across the Middle East because of
a report in Newsweek that our military was flushing the Quran? It created a big
back lash that ended up with Newsweek publishing a retraction and the right
escalating their attack against opponents of the war.

Here we are 7 months later and once again the actions of the U.S. has
provoked protests in the Middle East:

Chanting "Death to America," Islamic groups held nationwide protests
Sunday as anger mounted over a purported CIA airstrike that Pakistan says
killed innocent civilians instead of the apparent target — al-Qaida's No. 2
leader.

Meanwhile, a newspaper reported that the mission was launched on
intelligence that Ayman al-Zawahri had been invited to dinner that night in
one of three houses leveled by the attack on Damadola, a village near the
Afghan border.

Islamabad — which insists it does not allow the 20,000 U.S. soldiers in
Afghanistan to cross the border in the hunt for Taliban or al-Qaida fighters
— has condemned the strike. The Pakistanis have shown increasing frustration
over a recent series of suspected U.S. attacks along the frontier aimed at
Islamic militants.

Pakistani officials say innocent people were among the 17 men, women and
children killed in Friday's attack and al-Zawahri, Osama bin Laden's top
lieutenant, was not even there.

6 Civilians Killed In Bad Airstrike

Posted 1/6/06 at 3:30pm by jamie

It looks like there has been another fatal error in Iraq

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A bomb that killed six civilians Monday near Baiji,
Iraq, missed its target by 65 feet (20 meters) and hit the wrong home,
military officials said.

The bomb, which was dropped by a U.S. fighter plane, was aimed at a
building that three men entered after planting a roadside bomb as an
unmanned surveillance plane watched from overhead, the officials said.

A U.S. Navy F-14 Tomcat fighter jet strafed the building before the bomb
was dropped, according to a U.S. military statement released after the
nighttime attack.

The bomb had "successful effects against the insurgents," the statement
added.

The strike flattened a family's home, killing six of the family members
and wounding three others, said a spokesman for the Salaheddin provincial
governor's office. A father and daughter survived with only minor injuries,
he said.

It has been reported that the US is upping airstrikes in Iraq in order to
fight the insurgency and possibly reduce ground troops but if this is the cost
of that then perhaps that plan should be rethought. This is going to further
harm our standing in the country and most likely force more members of their
government to ask for our withdrawal.

Kerry Speaks

Posted 12/20/05 at 6:00pm by jamie

Kerry has broken his silence on the wiretapping issue:

BOSTON --Sen. John Kerry said Tuesday that the domestic spying authorized
by the White House "doesn't uphold our Constitution," and that President
Bush offered a "lame" defense in recent public appearances.

The Massachusetts Democrat, who lost to Bush in the 2004 presidential
election, also said the alleged White House leak of a CIA agent's identity
was more serious than the media's disclosure of the spying program.

Bush said Monday that it was "a shameful act" for someone to have leaked
details of the program to The New York Times, and he suggested the Justice
Department is investigating the leak.

Though leaking any classified information is against the law, "there is a
world of difference between what the president's engaged in and what was
leaked out of the White House," Kerry told reporters after addressing
ironworkers at a local labor hall.

Also worth noting, a peace group in Ohio was the target of a Department of
Defense survellance program.

An Akron-based group charged Monday that the Department of Defense spied
on area residents at a peace rally March 19.

The Northeast Ohio American Friends Service Committee said documents
uncovered by NBC News in a Wednesday report revealed that information about
the Akron gathering was included in the data.

``This is chilling,'' the Quaker-affiliated group said in a press
release.

Merry Fitzmas

Fitzgerald and the grand jury investigating the leak case were seen entering
the court room at around 9:00 am eastern time today. According to Raw Story,
sources close to the investigation say Fitzgerald has asked for indictments on
Karl Rove and Scooter Libby.

This information goes hand in hand with information coming out last night
that indictments would be handed down today and that the prosecutor met with
Rove's attorney yesterday to inform them their client was a target.

The big unanswered question now is will the indictments be sealed? Sources
close to the investigation are saying that they most likely will. But, what does
that mean? According to some legal professionals, sealed indictments usually
indicate that the prosecutor is not done yet. In this case it would most likely
indicate that Fitzgerald will either be seeking other indictments or asking to
extend the grand jury to further investigate other crimes that may have been
committed.

This case is developing very fast today. It definitely is looking like
Fitzmas.

When Will We Hear Judy's Story?

Posted 10/13/05 at 1:06am by jamie

After Matt Cooper's testimony into the leak of Valerie Plame's identity, we
got to see him make the round on Sunday morning talk shows and also read his
article in Time Magazine about his testimony. Now the question is "When will we
hear Judy's story?"

NEW YORK (AP) Now that New York Times reporter Judith Miller has
testified again in the investigation into the leak of a CIA operative's
name, many are wondering when the newspaper will publish the detailed
account it has promised on their own reporter's role in the case.

That story may yet have to wait: Even after her second round of grand
jury testimony Wednesday, it remains unclear whether Miller's cooperation
with the probe has finished. A spokesman for Patrick Fitzgerald, the special
counsel who is leading the investigation, declined to comment.

Miller was freed on Sept. 29 after nearly three months in jail for
refusing to reveal her source for information about the operative. That
information never made it into a story.

Perhaps Judy is once again a target in this investigation. If she is not
cooperating with Fitzgerald fully, then all deals are off the table and she
could land herself back in her call.

New Twists In Plame Gate

Posted 10/12/05 at 3:33am by jamie

Scooter Libby failed to disclose a meeting he had with Judith Miller on June
23, 2003 twice to the Grand Jury, and also to FBI agents who investigated the
leak. This can add another wrench into Libby's involvement as he could now be
charged with perjury and/or obstruction. The information became known in notes
Judith Miller recently discovered as reported by the

National Journal
.

Huffington Post
is reporting the following:

News Orgs Working On Stories Tying
Cheney Into Plamegate

… Developing…

The Huffington Post | Posted October 11, 2005 07:28 PM

The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg are working on stories that point
to Vice President Dick Cheney as the target of special prosecutor Patrick
Fitzgerald's investigation into the leaking of CIA operative Valerie Plame's
name.

If this pans out to be true we will see the entire house of cards crumble and
congressmen on the right of the aisle scatter to save their own political
futures. Interesting days are truly ahead my friends!

The Hot and Alarming News From the East

Posted 8/19/05 at 12:47am by jamie

The east seems to be the hot topic in the news today. Not only did Russian
President Putin issue a statement calling for a timetable for the withdrawal of
troops from Iraq, but a high ranking Kremlin official also said we must
recognize Iran's nuclear ambitions to

generate power
.

"Russia believes it is appropriate for the international community to
recognize Iran's right to continue its nuclear programs, since that would
solve the current crisis and save unnecessary problems."

This could add problems to the United States motives if it is taken before
the United Nations Security Council. Russia is a permanent member of the
Security Council, and there for holds a veto.

This news came out the same day that Russia and China were involved in one of
the largest joint military exercise in history. The exercise will go on for
eight days and involves training exercises on land, sea, and air. It is meant to
send a message to the
United States:

"The main target is the US. Both sides want to improve their position for
bargaining in terms of security, politics and economics"

That statement was made by Jin Canrong, a professor of international
relations at the People's University of China.

This are all very troubling signs. We don't live in the same America we did
before 9/11. While the attacks themselves changed America, George Bush has done
more to change it. He is trying to push America into being a global empire, and
the world is responding to his threats.

Abramoff Could Be Inidcted Today!

Posted 8/11/05 at 6:08pm by jamie

The

AP
is reporting that a federal grand jury in Miami is ready to hand down an
indictment to lobbyist Jack Abramoff as early as today.

Abramoff has been the target of numerous investigations including scamming
Indian Tribes out of millions of dollars. Abramoff is also tied to Tom Delay and
has connections in the White House all the way up to the oval office. This
indictment would involve his partnership in SunCruz Casino, which is being
investigated for false wire-transfers of $23 million.

Terrorists - Could be Right Next Door!!!

Posted 7/18/05 at 10:45pm by jamie

Imagine if our enemy was closer than you think - Your next
door neighbor, or the person who sits across from you in the office. It could
even be your doctor and local grocer. This would frighten the hell out of anyone
around here. Now, what if that enemy was you? Yes – you could very well be the
enemy the FBI is targeting.

In a report by the

Associated Press
, they have learned that the FBI counterterrorism division
has been keeping thousands of pages on activist groups around the country. These
aren’t groups you would think of like the Klu Klux Klan or the
Westboro Baptist Church, who thinks
9/11 was a blessing. The groups they are following are the ones trying to
promote peace. Groups like the ACLU and Greenpeace are now the target of
investigations by the FBI.

One report by the

Washington Post
even indicated that the FBI’s counterterrorism unit was
watching a group planning to protest the Republican National Convention. If this
was done by the Clinton White House, you can be certain there would be screaming
of abuse of powers. Oh Wait. This did happen then; When Hillary Clinton was
allegedly “abusing” powers to do FBI background checks on key people in the
White House. Of course, that was an allegation that never played out.

Detainee Abuse Policy?

Posted 7/14/05 at 5:46pm by jamie

After weeks of hearing Hitler comparisons and over exaggerated arguments about the treatment, rather it be good or bad, of Guantanamo detainees, we now hear about an official military investigation uncovering some mistreatment of the prisoners.

Now while this report does not give gut wrenching accounts of horrid torture practices like we heard was common place in Saddam’s regime, it does show a sick and twisted side to out interrogation techniques. “Interrogators at the U.S. detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, forced a stubborn detainee to wear women's underwear on his head, confronted him with snarling military working dogs and attached a leash to his chains…” was how one Washington Post article detailed the accounts. Military investigators called the techniques “creative” and “aggressive” but not crossing the line into torture. These techniques were starting to be used at Gitmo in early 2003.

Now while these acts don’t seem that bad, it does represent a trend in our handling of detainees.

This was one of the many pictures made famous by the Abu Gharib prison scandal, which occurred in April 2004 – a year after the newly published report stated the same abuses happened at Guantanamo.

NEW RULE: Terrorism is Not Partisan Politics!!

Posted 7/13/05 at 9:33pm by jamie

There is a growing debate in Washington of the distribution
of anti terrorism money to states. It seems that this has become another
familiar game in our Capital. The money is now being distributed to states, not
dependent upon their risk of terrorism, but their political allegiance.

New Jersey, who is a top risk for a terrorist attack
because of its miles of chemical factories and open ports, saw their homeland
security money cut. Was it because they had done such an excellent job at
protecting these high threat areas? No! Was it because the ports are so much
safer and the federal government is now protecting them? Hell No! Was it because
their Republican governor left office and now a Democrat is in the mansion?
BINGO!

Now I have read the Quran cover to cover. I am not a
Muslim, but I do feel in a time of war it is a good thing to know who you are up
against. It offers an overseen look into our enemy’s views. Now, not once in the
Quran did I see a mention of Jihad based upon political party. Basically if they
are going to blow someone up, then they are going to blow up who ever is around
that target. When was the last time you heard a suicide bomber say “OH! RNC you
can go before I blow!” The answer is never, but of course maybe our liberal
media doesn’t cover those facts.

Let's Attack North Korea

Posted 6/3/05 at 5:19pm by jamie

CNN has reported that North Korean President, Kim Jong-il has vowed to not
return to the nuclear bargaining table unless Vice President Cheney issues an
apology for comments he made on
Larry King
Monday night.

When asked if he was worried about the situation in North Korea, Vice
President Cheney had this to say about Kim Jong-Il

I am concerned about it, partly because Kim Jong Il, who's the leader of
North Korea, is -- I would describe as one of the world's more irresponsible
leaders

This comment did nothing but place another steep obstacle on the road to
diplomacy.

This don't stop here though. The very next morning after these comments were
made, it was time for our President to speak. During a
press conference held in
the rose garden, President Bush was asked about the situation with North Korea
and he replied with:

we want diplomacy to be given a chance to work

I would like to offer a free dictionary to the White House, and I encourage
both the President and Vice President to look up key words before using them.
For example, Webster's defines diplomacy as:

1.
Negotiation between nations.

2.
Subtly skillful handling of a situation.

3.
Wisdom in the management of public affairs.

While the President is saying he wants to use diplomacy, the Vice President
is contradicting it by making statements such as he did. In other words there
was nothing subtle about calling Kim Jong-Il irresponsible. All he has done is
increase the odds of diplomacy failing in the situation.
