MoveOn Member Gets Her Head Stomped On By Rand Paul Supporter

Posted 10/26/10 at 8:49am by jamie

Things got beyond heated last night outside the Rand Paul/Jack Conway debate in Lexington last night:

At one point, violence broke out when Lauren Valle of MoveOn.org approached Paul and tried to give him an “employee of the month award” from Republicorp. Republicorp is a fake business MoveOn created to symbolize what it says is the merger of the GOP and business interests controlling political speech.

Television video shows Valle, of Washington, D.C., being pushed to the ground and at least one foot stepping down on her head.

Here’s the video of the assault

It takes a really big man to stomp on the head of a woman, who is being held on the ground by a bunch of guys. Of course to Rand Paul, this is probably a flash back from his college days and to the GOP, it’s nothing more than the way the Bible says to treat women.

UPDATE

The following statement was released by Rand Paul:

Back To Iraq

Posted 4/6/09 at 9:27am by jamie

Don’t let the lack of reports fool you. Iraq is still very unstable, and seeing some very deadly days:

Six car bombs exploded across Baghdad Monday, killing at least 34 people and wounding scores, police said, after a spate of arrests targeting Sunni Arab fighters raised tensions in the Iraqi capital.

A blast at a popular market in eastern Baghdad's Shi'ite Sadr City slum killed at least 10 people and wounded 65.

Why aren’t we hearing about this? It’s hard to say. Perhaps it could be that there is so much going on that the media’s ADD is kicking into overdrive. Your guess is as good as mine, but we need these stories out there.

The media will turn their attention to Iraq one the troops start getting pulled out. When that starts then stories like this will be plastered on every network. It will serve  as some sort of “proof” that Obama is destroying Iraq. But right now they can still push the meme that “the surge worked” by kicking these stories under the rug.

Overnight Tensions Grow in the Middle East

Posted 3/23/07 at 9:11am by jamie

This has a real potential to become a fire storm:

Fifteen British Marines on patrol in the Persian Gulf have been "seized" by the Iranian navy, the British Ministry of Defense said.

The Marines were "engaged in routine boarding operations of merchant shipping in Iraqi territorial waters," the ministry said in a statement on Friday.

A U.S. military official who monitors the region told CNN the Marines stopped an Iranian ship suspected of smuggling automobiles, and boarded it for an inspection.

The British ministry's statement said the Marines "completed a successful inspection of a merchant ship when they and their two boats were surrounded and escorted by Iranian vessels into Iranian territorial waters."

Now they are reporting that there is some debate as to rather the U.K. ship was in Iranian waters. I wonder if this would have happened if we talked to Iran in 2003 when they offered?

Causing Tensions With A New Generation

Posted 7/21/06 at 3:56pm by jamie

That is Israeli children signing a missile before it is fired off to Lebanon. It is the first picture seen on a new site fromisrael2lebanon.com. Following that is a series of grotesque pictures showing children and civilians in Lebanon that have been killed from the recent bombings.

The site at first appears to be taking a pro-Israel stand, but once you read through it you quickly realize that it is an attempt to get the bombing to stop. Seeing these children sign these missiles is very disturbing. It shows an attempt to keep tensions high for another generation and prolong the decades of conflict that have already engulfed the region.

Israel is showing their ignorance with this action. Think of Lebanese citizens seeing this. Those citizens may not have supported Hezbollah in the past, but they most likely will now. It is the same as the increasing tensions in Iraq, where our own Generals have even admitted that every time we kill an insurgent, three more are created.

This is the madness behind Hezbollah. Israel has fell right into their trap of overreacting to a situation and this will greatly increase the support Hezbollah gets from people in the region. As that support grows, the bloodshed and time of this conflict will also grow.

The rest of the world must come together and take action against both sides to stop this conflict. With every bomb dropped, both sides grow stronger. This will only lead to more death and destruction. The inactions of the world is the worst enemy right now.

The Bigger Middle East Picture

Posted 7/18/06 at 2:21pm by jamie

Here is the reason why we won't be able to help Israel out militarily - we can't. Look at a couple of the stories today. First from Iraq:

A suicide bomber pulled his van into a busy market on Tuesday, lured labourers with job offers and blew himself up, killing scores in one of the worst attacks in Iraq since the new government was installed in April.

The blast in the Shi'ite city of Kufa killed 59 people and sparked clashes between police and angry protesters, dealing a fresh blow to Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki's efforts to promote national reconciliation and avoid a slide toward civil war.

Then we go to the other war - Afghanistan:

U.S.-led forces will launch "decisive operations" to reclaim two southern towns captured in recent days by the Taliban, the military said Tuesday. Scores of Taliban militants chased police out of the two towns near the Pakistani border.

"The Taliban extremists have taken control of the areas of Garmser and Naway-i-Barakzayi, however, coalition forces do have them under observation," military spokesman Col. Tom Collins told reporters in Kabul.

Our military is so bogged down right now with the war of necessity, Afghanistan and the war of choice, Iraq, that there is no way we can offer aide to our ally. We are losing towns in Afghanistan again and Iraq is closer to a full out civil war, that will add to the tensions already coming from the Israel conflict. This is how bad things are getting in the Middle East and a majority of the problems are attributed to our failed foreign policies. Things are only going to get worse from here.

Bush's Potty Mouth

Posted 7/17/06 at 12:21pm by jamie

With all the tensions in the Middle East, leave it to our President to have a little blunder that at least gives us some humor:

President Bush, not realizing his remarks were being picked up by a microphone, bluntly expressed his frustration with the actions of Hezbollah, a militant Islamic group believed backed by Iran and Syria that is engaged in escalating warfare with Israel.

"See the irony is that what they need to do is get Syria to get Hezbollah to stop doing this (expletive) and it's over," Bush told Blair in a discussion before the Group of Eight leaders began their lunch.

Bush also suggested that Annan call Syrian President Bashar Assad to "make something happen."

Hopefully someone has the actual audio of this to play, though the only expletive I can think of that would fit in there is "shit".

Now the serious part of this lies in Bush wanting to pass the buck to Annan on getting action stopped. Our administration has been relatively docile on the recent conflict. Former administrations would have already had an envoy in the region trying to calm things down.

here are rumors that Bush may send his father and Bill Clinton over there to help mediate things. Amazing how he must turn to that duo every time. I believe Clinton would be just as effective, if not more without Bush Sr. We are dealing with the part of the Arab world that is not to thrilled about Bushs as it is.

Every hour that goes by, this conflict gets more intense and the risk of Syria and Iran getting involved is even greater. Once that does happen, then the entire Middle East is in a war and the ramifications of that will be a shock around the world. We really need to get this situation under control fast. The more we sit and wait, the worse it will get.

And It begins

Posted 6/14/06 at 9:32pm by jamie

Gives me flashbacks of Footloose:

Chicago gay rights activists are concerned about what may have been a hate crime in the Lakeview neighborhood.

The Chicago Public Library says that about 100 books were destroyed after someone set a fire in the section for gay and lesbian literature.

It happened Tuesday about noon at the John Merlo branch of the public library in the 600 block of West Belmont.

Newsradio 780 is told that someone is believed to have set fire to books with a cigarette lighter and that about 90 gay and lesbian books were destroyed, and that about 10 books destroyed in the African American literature section.

Thanks Bill Frist. By your quick action last week to bring this very heated debate back to the floor of Senate so it could reach its certain doom, you have created more tensions in our nation. What a guy you are.

Snow's First Day With Cameras

Posted 5/16/06 at 11:03pm by jamie

Tony Snow's first day in front of the camera and already he has stuck his foot in his mouth (via Crooks and Liars):

CBS REPORTER: Why not declassify [the NSA's call records database]? I mean, the President did talk about the surveillance program a day after the New York Times broke that story. This would seem to affect far more people and it did sound like the President was confirming that story today when he was answering questions.

SNOW: If you go back and look through what he said, there was a reference of foreign to domestic calls. I am not going to stand up here and presume to declassify any kind of program. That is a decision the President has to make. I can't confirm or deny it. The President was not confirming or denying. Again, I would take you back to the USA Today story to give you a little context. Look at the poll that appeared the following day [...] something like 65% of the public was not troubled by it. Having said that, I don't want to hug the tar baby of trying to comment on the program... the alleged program, the existence of which I can neither confirm or deny.

Think Progress points this out:

Based on the context of the term, we believe you meant tar baby to mean: “a situation almost impossible to get out of; a problem virtually unsolvable.”

But in “American lore,” the expression tar baby is also a racial slur “used occasionally as a derogatory term for black people.” Use of the term has resulted in people being fired.

As Random House notes, “some people suggest avoiding the use of the term in any context.” Now that you are no longer at Fox News, you may want to take them up on their advice.

Bush Casts And CBS Bites

Posted 4/8/06 at 9:08pm by jamie

My post earlier today showed how even a senior official in the Iraqi government is calling the tensions there a "civil war". Ironically CBS is still sucking up to the Bush administration's talking point by avoiding that term. This is a shot from their web page today:

cbscivilconflict.jpg

"Civil Conflict". 80 people died yesterday (which is common pace anymore) and Iraqi citizens are stocking up on fire arms. Call it what it is - "CIVIL WAR". When will these corporate news mongers learn that Bush doesn't make the news, he is the news.

Could It Be Treason?

Posted 4/6/06 at 8:30pm by jamie

OK sitting here thinking about the revelation today of Bush authorizing the leak I have come up with something.

Back when it was being reported that Cheney authorized the leak, one argument was regarding the declassification of information and if the vice-president has that power. It is clear that the President does in fact have the power to do that but it is unclear rather the vice-president can do it or not.

Perhaps knowing this is part of the reason why Fitzgerald never did charge anyone with outting a CIA agent or disclosing classified information. Now if this is the case, there is another angle to consider - did the President of the United States commit treason?

We know that Valerie Plame was working on WMD. We also know that she was focusing on Iran and their nuclear issue. First off we are currently in a war with Iraq over a claim of WMD. Secondly, we are facing increased tensions with Iran over WMD. With that said then I believe it is a question Congress should take a serious look at.

Stopping Bush's Medicare Cuts

Posted 3/9/06 at 1:23am by jamie

Following the Medicare/Medicaid debacle that happened first of this year it seems like Republicans are scrambling to once again distance themselves from Bush and also try and save that some of the vital senior votes this fall. This from Reuters:

President George W. Bush's plan to cut $36 billion from Medicare ran into stiff opposition on Wednesday from dozens of his fellow Republicans in the House of Representatives.

The move creates doubts about getting Bush's 2007 budget through Congress -- and is another sign of growing tensions between the president and his fellow Republicans in Congress.

In another headache for Bush, a top Senate Republican said he was putting on the back burner the president's proposal to expand tax-free Health Savings Accounts, a major component of the administration's effort to reduce health care costs.

About time they wake up and realize that Bush's plans just do not work. In January, numerous states had to declare public emergencies because seniors could not get their vital medications filled under the new program. While the news has pretty much stopped covering this story, it is still going on. They can ignore it all they want but come November when that 30-35% of the voter populace, who are seniors, cast their decisions it will not be forgotten.

Musharraf urges US to intervene in Afghan dispute

Posted 3/6/06 at 6:11pm by Anonymous (not verified)

The Financial Times reports:

General Pervez Musharraf, Pakistan's military ruler, urged the US on Monday to resolve a growing dispute with neighbouring Afghanistan over the location of Taliban dissidents who Kabul says have taken refuge on Pakistani soil.

In unusually tough remarks, Gen Musharraf said Pakistan would use a visit to Islamabad on Wednesday by General George Abizaid, commander of the US central command, to highlight "baseless" information given by Afghanistan.

The dispute began last month when Hamid Karzai, the Afghan president, handed Pakistan a list of Taliban suspects alleged to be living in Pakistan, complete with addresses and phone numbers.

Gen Musharraf said on Monday that "two-thirds of the information" was outdated, and the findings of an investigation of the list by Pakistani officials had been shared with the US Central Intelligence Agency.

"This kind of nonsense cannot be tolerated by us any more," the general said. "There is a deliberate `conspiracy against Pakistan. This involves Afghan intelligence, the Ministry of Defence [of Afghanistan]."

He also accused an unnamed country of operating against Pakistan as a "foreign hand" in Afghanistan - language that has in the past been used to refer to intelligence agencies from India.

Western diplomats said Gen Musharraf's remarks underlined the difficulties faced by the US in overseeing greater co-operation between Pakistan's military and the ruling establishment in Kabul, which deeply distrusts Islamabad.

Pakistani officials say Kabul's ministries of defence, foreign affairs and interior include anti- Pakistan officials.

Gen Musharraf's candid admission that a "semi- crisis" was brewing around Pakistan-Afghan relations was said by officials to reflect the depth of the growing tensions between the two countries.

Thwarting Off Disaster

Posted 7/23/05 at 2:55am by jamie

Explosions have just rocked Egypt. While no one has claimed
responsibility for the serious of bombings that have claimed at least 46 lives,
it seems as though it could be either al Qaeda or someone influenced by their
beliefs. This comes on the same day that London Police shoot and kill a person
apparently attempting to set off another bomb in a London subway. This can only
make one stop and wonder if al Qaeda is gaining even more strength.

During President Bush’s prime time speech a few weeks ago,
he stated that “we are fighting them there so that we don’t have to fight them
here”. This is starting to seem like another misconception given by the
President who promised to restore trust to the Oval Office.

With two attacks in London, only two weeks apart, it seems
that the terrorists are taking the words of the President and turning them
around. We are in a war with an enemy who can slip in and out of our radar
screen. They can be riding the bus with you or passing you in the grocery store.
It is an enemy fighting for a religious cause, and that is the hardest enemy to
defeat.

The problem we are faced with is a rough one. We have a
commander in chief who has been less than truthful with the American people. His
subordinates have been involved in a political smear campaign that has
ultimately crippled our intelligence community, and he has led us into another
war on false pretenses.

While we are trying to go about our lives as usual, we can
not help to worry about the next terrorist attack happening in our own
communities. While we are involved in these two wars, which seems to have merged
to one large war, our tensions between China are increasing over Taiwan. When
you add it all up, we very well could be looking at the starts of World War 3.
