BREAKING: Report That Specter Will Switch Parties

Posted 4/28/09 at 12:06pm by jamie

Just now breaking on MSNBC that Arlen Specter is going to announce he is switching parties, which will give the Democrats that 60 vote margin.

UPDATE:

Chris Cillizza reports:

Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter will switch his party affiliation from Republican to Democrat and announced today that he will run in 2010 as a Democrat, according to a statement he released this morning.

Specter's decision would give Democrats a 60 seat filibuster proof majority in the Senate assuming Democrat Al Franken is eventually sworn in as the next Senator from Minnesota. (Former Sen. Norm Coleman is appealing Franken's victory in the state Supreme Court.)

"I have decided to run for re-election in 2010 in the Democratic primary," said Specter in a statement. "I am ready, willing and anxious to take on all comers and have my candidacy for re-election determined in a general election."

He added: "Since my election in 1980, as part of the Reagan Big Tent, the Republican Party has moved far to the right. Last year, more than 200,000 Republicans in Pennsylvania changed their registration to become Democrats. I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans."

(emphasis added)

I highlighted that last part because that statement right there symbolizes the problem with the GOP today. The Republicans will paint Specter as some sort of traitor, but the fact is that the GOP has become the traitors. Instead of welcoming a wide array of ideas and beliefs, they have shrunk the size of the tent.

Hopefully this will be a wake up call to the GOP, but I seriously doubt it. Realizing problems with their own party is something they have never been good at.

Whiney Republican Watch

baby_crying_closeup Oh this is just priceless:

Republicans wrapped up their retreat Friday by signaling they are losing patience with President Obama and the Democratic leadership in Congress.

Former Gov. Mitt Romney (R-Mass.) criticized the new administration on Friday, saying it had promised to reach out to Republicans on the Capitol Hill, but then offered an economic recovery package that included few, if any, proposals from the minority party.

Romney, who helped write the House Republican substitute voted down Wednesday afternoon, said enough of the rhetoric, it's time for Obama to act.

And what the fuck did the Democrats get with Bush? Hell we questioned his policies and were called “traitors” and “unpatriotic”, and now the Mittster has his magical panties all up in a bunch. Welcome to what the detractors from the previous administration went through. If you don’t like it then get the hell out of the country. That is something else we heard too.

Victory!

The administration can pull the "Mission Accomplished" banner back out and hang it again (4 years later). Looks like we got the big guy in Iraq:

The interior ministry in Iraq says it has received intelligence that the head of al-Qaeda in Iraq has been killed.

Abu Ayyub al-Masri, believed to be an Egyptian, has led the group since June 2006 when Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was killed in a US air strike.

Al-Qaeda in Iraq is blamed for or has claimed some of the bloodiest insurgent attacks in Iraq since 2003.

I am sure the GOP is looking at ways of celebrating this. We will hear how this is some sort of proof that the surge is working. The warbloggers will break open the Champaign while branding any blog that dare speaks the reality as "traitors" or "terrorist sympathizers". Since I am used to being branded with those schoolyard names, I will go ahead and get it started.

Within four days of Zarqawi dying last year, Masri was filling his shoes. If Masri is truly dead, then you can bet there is already a new leader making the plans. The problem is that this new leader might have new ideas and new plans that will change the current dynamic of everything. In other words, this could turn around on us. With Masri we saw a rise in chlorine bombs. With a new mystery leader, who knows what kind of nasty ideas he has in his mind. We will loose weeks just trying to figure out who is running things now, while he is personalizing (for lack of a better term) his plans for Iraq.

Don't get me wrong - I am not upset that this slime is dead. I am just saying it will change things in Iraq, and those changes will not be for the better. As matter of fact, things could get a lot worse now.

The GOP Jihad

It is in full swing now:

A source at the National Republican Senatorial Committee confirmed in an interview with The Politicker that the Republican party will not help Connecticut U.S. Senate candidate Alan Schlesinger (R) "or any other potential Republican candidate in Connecticut, and it now favors a Lieberman victory in November."

Said the source: "We did a poll and there is no way any Republican we put out there can win, so we are just going to leave that one alone."

There you go all you aspiring young Republicans out there. If they don't like you or if they like a none affiliated candidate even better, then your screwed. If I was Schlessinger, I would go out and just start blasting all the Republicans out there. Show the people what kind of traitors they really are.

This also puts the lid on the "is Lieberman a Democrat" debate out there (as if there really is one). No he is not. He is so much Republican that the Republicans will even screw over one of their own to support him. Democrats in Connecticut - take not. A vote for Lieberman is a vote for Bush and the GOP agenda that has destroyed America.

More "Support Of Our Troops" By Halliburton

Posted 3/16/06 at 4:53pm by jamie

When it comes to either supporting our troops or Cheney's retirement then Cheney's retirement will always win:

Halliburton Co. failed to protect the water supply it is paid to purify for U.S. soldiers throughout Iraq, in one instance missing contamination that could have caused "mass sickness or death," an internal company report concluded.

The report, obtained by The Associated Press, said the company failed to assemble and use its own water purification equipment, allowing contaminated water directly from the Euphrates River to be used for washing and laundry at Camp Ar Ramadi in Ramadi, Iraq.

The problems discovered last year at that site — poor training, miscommunication and lax record keeping — occurred at Halliburton's other operations throughout Iraq, the report said.

So now we can add contaminated water to the list of ways Halliburton has shown their support for our troops. That list also contains items like serving food over a year out of date and over billing our government. The worst part is Republicans refuse to hold any kind of oversight hearing into these matters. Sounds to me like the Republicans are more interested in profits than the welfare of our troops also.

Can you imagine if Halliburton was some big blue company that miraculously got this contract and did these things? The right would be calling them traitors for their negligence saying it is helping our enemies. Well since they are not that big blue company, their actions are appropriate in the eyes of Republican leadership. The fact is they are helping our enemies out. Sick soldiers can not fight and serving them tainted water and food will guarantee they become sick. Sounds to me like the Republicans are the ones now supporting our enemy.

Well I had to have some fun today. I saw the following post

Lunatic Fringe on Valerie Plame

Subject: Valerie Plame is just another CIA scumbag.

You really shouldn't shoot your mouth off about Valerie
Plame.

She's no angel.

She's just another lying, do-nothing CIA scumbag.

She deserved to be outed.

I printed this because many right wing blogs are so fond
of quickly posting comments or emails to try and paint all Democrats as
traitors and other such nonsense. In that spirit I'll ask this question. Why
do right wingers hate the CIA? If they hate the CIA then they hate America
since the CIA is one of our most trusted instruments to fight terrorism.  Why
don't you email Mr. Christian and ask him why he hates America.

(Update) Here's Tom Christian's response:  "OK. So how
can you say I'm an asshole?

Do you know anything about me?

lol, yea Tom, we know all about you by reading your
email.

After seeing this, I felt compelled to email Mr. Christian
and ask him if he hated our intelligence community so much as to go out and
slander one of its agents. The following was his response. I also found out he
sent the same response to others:

Look I appreciate the fighting spirit and all that,

but I think you and Larry need to know some things about
