Is This How Bush Supports The Troops?

Or is it how he equates himself with the terrorists:

Hundreds of U.S. Marines have been killed or injured by roadside bombs in Iraq because Marine Corps bureaucrats refused an urgent request in 2005 from battlefield commanders for blast-resistant vehicles, an internal military study concludes.

The study, written by a civilian Marine Corps official and obtained by The Associated Press, accuses the service of "gross mismanagement" that delayed deliveries of the mine-resistant, ambush-protected trucks for more than two years.

Cost was a driving factor in the decision to turn down the request for the so-called MRAPs, according to the study. Stateside authorities saw the hulking vehicles, which can cost as much as a $1 million each, as a financial threat to programs aimed at developing lighter vehicles that were years from being fielded.

Once again we see that Republican attitude of money trumping life. Letting our troops die to save money? That almost sounds treasonous.

I know the apologists will be out saying "well Bush doesn't have control over everything". That is the standard meme that has followed every story like this, from Mike Brown to Abu Gharib. This is a commander in chief with no responsibility.

Oh The Cover Up!

Blackwater sure is quick on fixing damage:

Blackwater Worldwide repaired and repainted its trucks immediately after a deadly September shooting in Baghdad, making it difficult to determine whether enemy gunfire provoked the attack, according to people familiar with the government's investigation of the incident.

Damage to the vehicles in the convoy has been held up by Blackwater as proof that its security guards were defending themselves against an insurgent ambush when they fired into a busy intersection, leaving 17 Iraqi civilians dead.

Because shiny vehicles are the most important part of their work. I am sure they weren't trying to cover anything up.

Thinking of Kansas

The F-5 tornado that leveled a town in Kansas was horrible. Having lived through a couple major tornados, I can tell you how devastating they are first hand. One of my earliest childhood memories was when an F-5 tornado came through southern Ohio in 1974. Thankfully our house was untouched. The same couldn't be said for a lot of our neighbors. Walking out the front door after the storm cleared, I quickly realized that most of my street was destroyed.

The amazing thing about that horrible April day was how quickly the National Guard responded. I was very young and don't remember that part, but my mother reminds me of it. Sadly the same isn't true for Kansas today:

The governor said the state's response was limited by the shifting of emergency equipment, such as tents, trucks and semitrailers, to the war in Iraq.

"Not having the National Guard equipment, which used to be positioned in various parts of the state, to bring in immediately is really going to handicap this effort to rebuild," Sebelius said.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency was bringing in travel trailers to house some of the town's residents.

Because of Bush's failed war, people in our own country can not get the necessary emergency services when the need arises. We saw that in Katrina and we are seeing it again today. This also provides another need for us to end the war now. The people of this country should come first. Unfortunately they don't under Bush. Instead our needed services are stuck helping a government in a foreign nation that don't even want to help itself. Ironic that the Iraqi government is getting ready to take a two month vacation, while the people in Kansas can't even get the help needed to rebuild.
