Let's Get Weiner Straight

Posted 6/6/11 at 6:31pm by jamie

As you have most likely heard by now Anthony Weiner has admitted to sending the lewd photos of himself over the internet, including the now infamous bulge shot.

I can't begin to explain how frustrating this is. It's not for the main subject of this story, his bulge and internet habits, but rather for his handling of the whole situation. Weiner went out and made false claims of being hacked and a lot of his supporters, including myself, accepted that story. He lied to us all and that is inexcusable.

If Weiner would have come out last week and said "hey I made a stupid mistake and there might be more of these out there. I apologize for this", but he didn't. He became defiant and took to lying, knowing tons more evidence was floating around the inter-tubes.

Stupid? Stupidity doesn't even begin to describe this!

Then we have the whole Andrew Breitbart angle. Breitbart has no journalistic standards what-so-ever and sure didn't exhibit any in the handling of this story, but he did get it right. I know a lot on the left will still take to blaming Breitbart, but let's be honest with ourselves; if some blogger on the left got a picture of Boehner's flannel-clad boner that he sent to some girl, it would be picked up by every other blog on the left. That's the name of the game we all play.

There is one place that I still lay blame on this story and that is with the media. Yeah they should have reported it, but they have also kept on this story non-stop. Part of the blame does go to Weiner and his crap story at the beginning, but this story still garnered much more attention from the media than did the Mark Foley story, which is very similar except the fact that Weiner wasn't engaging in this activity with underage children.

But how does Weiner get off?

Ye Old SCOTUS

On Monday I posted about how we are seeing younger Supreme Court picks, which in turn means we will have justices remain in the high court even longer. I also said how that is damaging to our country, since the court won’t keep up with the changes of society. Today we have a picture perfect example of this.

The Supreme Court is currently taking up a case involving texting. To you and me that might seem kind of common, but to the justices, who are old and/or living in the dark ages, this case is just way over their head:

The first sign was about midway through the argument, when Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr. - who is known to write out his opinions in long hand with pen and paper instead of a computer - asked what the difference was “between email and a pager?”

Other justices’ questions showed that they probably don’t spend a lot of time texting and tweeting away from their iPhones either.

At one point, Justice Anthony Kennedy asked what would happen if a text message was sent to an officer at the same time he was sending one to someone else.

“Does it say: ‘Your call is important to us, and we will get back to you?’” Kennedy asked.

Justice Antonin Scalia wrangled a bit with the idea of a service provider.

“You mean (the text) doesn’t go right to me?” he asked.

Then he asked whether they can be printed out in hard copy.

For the Chief Justice, and one of the youngest members, to not even know the different between email and a pager in this technological age is mind boggling. My grandmother can tell you the difference between a pager and email and she is a hell of a lot older than Roberts.

GOP Learns The Lessons Of The Internet Tubes The Hard Way

Posted 12/15/09 at 4:52pm by jamie

This is priceless:

The Republican party took down its innovative link-shortening tool Tuesday for several hours after pranksters had a field day using the tool to associate the GOP with bondage sites.

As part of its new media strategy, the Republican party launched a new site called GOP.am on Monday. It’s a URL shortener designed to make it easy for conservative web surfers to exchange links to web pages.

Pranksters almost immediately began using the service to link to controversial or ironically intended websites, such as the official site of the American Communist Party, a bondage website and a webpage advertising a sex toy in the likeness of Barack Obama. GOP.am apparently started blocking such links at some point Tuesday morning, and the GOP.am homepage was taken offline.

I must admit that I joined in the fun with this link. Balloon Juice also had a lot of fun with it. Besides all that fun, I really think this speaks volumes to the lack of understanding the GOP has when it comes to the internet. People are going to do things like this and your best bet is to just accept it and move on.

1/2 A Billion Through The Tubes

Posted 11/21/08 at 10:49am by jamie

money Barack Obama shattered all records and use of the Internet:

Barack Obama raised half a billion dollars online in his 21-month campaign for the White House, dramatically ushering in a new digital era in presidential fundraising.

In an exclusive interview with The Post, members of the vaunted Triple O, Obama's online operation, broke down the numbers: 3 million donors made a total of 6.5 million donations online adding up to more than $500 million. Of those 6.5 million donations, 6 million were in increments of $100 or less. The average online donation was $80, and the average Obama donor gave more than once.

Totally amazing, and it shows what is possible when you have someone willing to seize the benefits of technology.

Further Down The Tubes

tubes Poor Ted Stevens:

Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens dropped further behind Democrat Mark Begich in his re-election bid Tuesday as the convicted felon's 85th birthday became a grueling wait that could determine whether his decades-long hold on power is over.

The longest-serving Republican in the history of the Senate trailed the Anchorage mayor by 2,374 votes out of 290,198 counted as election officials continued tallying absentee and other ballots. Begich had led by about 1,000 votes before Tuesday's count.

Things are looking very good for Begich. Every time new numbers come out of Alaska, he moves further out in the lead.

Terrorism Disguised As Health Care

Posted 2/28/08 at 11:14pm by jamie

I can't think of a better way to describe this:

Amid indications that more people may have died or been harmed after being given a brand of the blood thinner heparin, federal drug regulators said Thursday that they had found "potential deficiencies" at a Chinese plant that supplied much of the active ingredient for the drug.

Baxter International, which makes the brand of heparin associated with the problems, and buys supplies from the Chinese plant, announced that it was expanding a recall to include virtually all its heparin products. Though Baxter produces much of the heparin used in the United States, regulators said the other major supplier would be able to meet the demand.

The Food and Drug Administration said the number of deaths possibly associated with the drug, made from pig intestines, had risen to 21 from 4. But it cautioned that many of those patients were already seriously ill and that the drug might not have caused their deaths.

Heparin is an extremely common drug. A lot of people get it and don't even know it. It's called a Heparin lock, which gives a constant and easy access to a vein to push drugs. They are the tubes sticking out of your veins that look like an IV not going anywhere.

So when will our government do something about this? If it wasn't bad enough that the lack of oversight from this "global economy" caused our children to play with dangerous toys, now we hear our health care is at risk. If we continue down this path then the only safe people will be the Amish.

Intoxination Is Moving!

Posted 1/20/08 at 9:04am by jamie

After a two year run at Lypha, IntoxiNation is now out growing the little shared hosting server we have been living on. Today I am moving us over to a very hefty server, shared with Crooks and Liars and Firedoglake (besides the fact it makes my life easier since I do the tech work for all sites). Therefor things could be a little shakey over the next 48 hours as the new domain records filter through all those "tubes" into servers around the world. I am trying to minimize any downtime as I am keeping the database on here until I notice a big enough decrease in traffic on this server.

I want to thank Lypha for the great service over the past two years. I would highly recommend them to anyone. This site pushed a lot more peak traffic than any shared hosting environment should handle and without incident. Whenever there was a problem they were quick to fix it for me. I have dealt with a lot of hosting companies over the years who don't even compare to Lypha.

So hold on tight it might get bumpy for the next few days.

While Bush is on Vacation, Osama is in Preparation

Posted 8/4/05 at 3:24pm by jamie

This week our President started his historic five week
vacation at the ranch in Crawford, Texas. The term historic is used in a
rhetorical sense considering this is the longest vacation any President has
taken, and only 6 months into his second term, he is quickly on his way to break
the record of total time of for a President.

But that is not to worry about. We should feel safe with
our President tucked away in Crawford, perhaps where he can do less damage.
Texas at one point did want to become their own country, well they are quickly
shaping up for that since it seems our capital is now situated there.

But while Bush is on vacation, Osama is in preparation
(remember him George? He is the one still walking free that actually did attack
us).

"Our message is clear -- what you saw in New York and
Washington and what you are seeing in Afghanistan and Iraq, all these are
nothing compared to what you will see next."

That message was given by Ayman al-Zawahiri, the second in
charge of al Qaeda. The message aired on Al Jazeera television today and should
send a reminder to our commander in chief that the real enemy is still out
there.

He also issued further warnings to London:

"To the British, I am telling you that Blair brought you
destruction in the middle of London and more will come, God willing,"

This comes two weeks after the failed bombings of July 21
in London and four weeks after the successful attacks on the tubes and bus in
London on July 7.

This comes the same week that we have lost 27 soldiers in
Iraq and heard of even more torture taking place. Only 4 days into the month and
we already have lost half of the total number of soldiers we lost in July total.
