I Guess MSNBC Doesn’t Cover News?

Posted 11/30/09 at 7:13am by jamie

I’ve been watching Morning Joe for over an hour and they didn’t mention the killing of the Washington State cops or Huckabee’s involvement. They talked about Huckabee being the front runner in the GOP polls for 2012 and him maybe not running, but it wasn’t until guest Donnie Deutsch mentioned the case that Scarborough could bring himself to talk about it for 10 seconds. I guess they can’t be bothered to talk about one of the biggest stories in the nation now.

Adding….They are getting ready to cover the White House party crashers again, after spending about 30 minutes last hour on it. No wonder Morning Joe is the worse rated morning show on TV.

1,500 Uninsured Show Up At Clinic And Bill Clinton Gets It Totally Wrong

Posted 11/23/09 at 8:33am by jamie

The health clinic held in Arkansans Saturday saw 1,500 uninsured Arkansans come through to receive care on the very same day Blanche Lincoln was toying with the idea of killing healthcare reform. Here is a video from the event:

But somehow Bill Clinton has totally lost the message on this great endeavor, lead by Keith Olbermann:

Bill Clinton told FDL’s Eve Gittelson that it would be problematic for him to attend a free medical clinic being held in Little Rock, Arkansas tomorrow because MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann had “politicized” the event.” He indicated that some were turning the event into a primary kickoff against Arkansas Sen. Blanche Lincoln.

I guess Clinton has missed the entire healthcare debate, considering it has been nothing but politics. Two-thirds of Arkansans support the public option, yet their senator Blanche Lincoln is dead set against it, totally ignoring the will of the people she was elected to represent. That right there is fodder to turn the event into a anti-Blanche event.

Why I Have Never Liked Chuck Todd

Posted 11/21/09 at 10:24pm by jamie

While many on the left side of the blogosphere seemed to enjoy Chuck Todd, I have never liked him. I don’t believe he is the “political insight machine” that so many credit him with and here is more proof of it:

smokingcrackrock

John Cole, who caught this little tweet of <cough> brilliance from Todd, says this:

I guess he didn’t pick up on the fact that if they had failed to get the 60 votes, HCR would, for all intents and purposes, be dead in the short run, as the Republicans would filibuster. That is why this is such a big deal- they have overcome the obstructionism of the GOP, and the debate can advance.

Although in fairness to Chuck, he may be more concerned with why Obama didn’t reach out more to President McCain. Not to be too subjective, or anything.

When we see something as important as health care reform clear another hurdle then it is reason to celebrate. Todd’s just pissed because he doesn’t have some big failure to go on about. Screw the millions whose lives will be improved by this reform – Chuckles just wants something to give him more ratings and air time, and the more this babbling idiot is on TV the dumber America becomes.

It’s just another reason why my TV doesn’t turn to MSNBC as much as it used to.

How Did “Going Rogue” Get To #1?

Posted 11/17/09 at 12:14pm by jamie

Easy – they are damn near giving it away:

Walmart.com dropped price from list price of $28.99 to $10, then to $9 and below as other retailers matched it. On October 15, Walmart.com began offering preorders of Going Rogue, along with nine other new book releases, for $10. After Amazon.com reportedly matched the price, Walmart.com "str[uck] back, slashing its prices to $9" [AOL Daily Finance, 10/16/09]. Amazon also dropped its price to $9 [Buzzflash.com, 10/19/09]. Target.com joined in the price war, prompting Walmart.com to drop its price further [The New Yorker, 11/9/09]. By November 5, Walmart.com was selling the book for $8.98, Target.com was selling it for $8.99, and Amazon was selling it for $9. The respective retailers were still selling the book at those prices as of November 16. All three retailers give the book's list price as $28.99. Screen shots of the November 5 prices are below:

Too Big To Fail

Posted 11/15/09 at 2:06pm by jamie

We have heard that phrase a lot lately when it comes to the banks, but what about the media? What would happen if 1/4 of the U.S. media went bankrupt? With a proposed take over of NBC by Comcast that could easily become a reality:

By next week, cable giant Comcast is expected to announce a deal to buy NBC-Universal, the biggest proposed media merger in recent memory. Comcast, the largest cable company and the No. 1 Internet service provider in the nation, would take over the NBC empire: a television network, Universal Studios, MSNBC, CNBC, USA Network, Telemundo, the Weather Channel, Hulu.com, 27 television stations and a host of other properties. UPDATE: The merger was rumored to be announced as early as Sunday, but related negotiations with Vivendi have delayed the announcement.

This train wreck of a deal will hurt all over. It will mean increased costs for cable television service; currently free online NBC content locked behind a pay wall; less opportunity for the distribution of independent media; even fewer choices and less programming diversity. On average, nearly one quarter of all channels offered to cable subscribers will be owned by the bloated Comcast.

12 Dead, 31 Wounded At Ft. Hood And MSNBC Breaks Out Tinfoil Hats

Posted 11/5/09 at 5:35pm by jamie

Watching Tweety talk about the carnage that happened today at Ft. Hood is seriously raising my blood pressure. In a conversation between him and Cliff Van Zandt I have heard 9/11 brought up a few times and reference the main shooters last name, Hasan, as being a key to what has happened. Of course then Matthews precedes to talk about how people will “turn to conspiracy theory and speculation” right after he just spent 32 minutes doing just that.

People like Matthews shouldn’t be allowed on the air when stories like this happen. He has a history of suffering from massive foot in mouth disease, and today is not a time for him to exhibit it. Please MSNBC – yank him off and let Shuster or one of the other’s fill in.

NBC Universals Racism Problem (Updated Below The Fold)

Posted 11/3/09 at 12:26pm by jamie

We already know MSNBC has a history of promoting racism by giving constant airtime to Pat Buchanan, but now this atmosphere of promoting racism has floated on over to CNBC. Chris in Paris has the details:

What an amazingly ignorant thing to say. The CNBC editor rips Meb Keflezighi for not being American-enough and as a ringer for winning marathons. Forget that his family left Eritrea as refugees, and he attended high school here and then became a naturalized US citizen over ten years ago. Yes, that is the clear sign of a ringer. Who out there doesn't flee war just to win a race?

Keflezighi won the New York Marathon this weekend and many have been praising the fact that he was the first American to do so in nearly 3 decades. Some how though he isn’t “American” to Darren Rovell, the CNBC editor who wrote:

It's a stunning headline: American Wins Men's NYC Marathon For First Time Since '82.
Unfortunately, it's not as good as it sounds.

Meb Keflezighi, who won yesterday in New York, is technically American by virtue of him becoming a citizen in 1998, but the fact that he's not American-born takes away from the magnitude of the achievement the headline implies...

Given our disappointing results, embracing Keflezighi is understandable. But Keflezighi's country of origin is Eritrea, a small country in Africa. He is an American citizen thanks to taking a test and living in our country.

Nothing against Keflezighi, but he's like a ringer who you hire to work a couple hours at your office so that you can win the executive softball league.

The positive sign was that some American-born runners did extremely well in yesterday's men's race.
If any of them stand on the top step of the podium in Central Park one day, that's when I'll break out my red, white and blue.

I wonder what Comcast thinks about this racism problem at a company they are looking to take over? MSNBC and CNBC have no both given platforms to known racists, and apparently without any remorse. Perhaps its time for people to turn off these networks and show them that the American people won’t tolerate it anymore. While MSNBC is the only cable news network I can tolerate, I have cut my daily viewing of them by over 75%. They feel mighty enough to bash other networks for obvious race baiting tactics, yet they won’t acknowledge their own problems. I wonder if Keith Olbermann will even mention this guy in World’s Worst? It has all the key components to attract Olbermann – racism and sports. Somehow though I doubt it will happen.

OMG Boobies!

Posted 10/31/09 at 8:46am by jamie

The lack of maturity on the right never ceases to amazes me. The latest elementary school rant comes from Townhall:

This reminds me when Fox News plays a constant b-roll of girls in bikinis during, say, Spring Break while proclaiming, "Ohhhh, isn't that terrible! That's so inappropriate!"

MSNBC's Dr. Nancy -- who's show gets terrible ratings -- plays the clip of a 28-year-old woman giving herself a breast exam at the beginning of the segment and asks: Was the decision to air this clip a "ploy" for ratings during sweeps week? Ha! Talk about transparent in her own ploy to get ratings. The two guest doctors agree that the video was more of a ploy than an educational tool. They also mention that it would have been more appropriate to show a 50-plus-year-old woman giving herself the exam than a 28-year-old because breast cancer generally hits the over 50s.

Absolutely amazing. Here’s the video posted by Townhall, which to any normal person is nothing sexual at all:

It amazes me that the right still gets in an uproar over boobs. They will never grow up and it doesn’t matter if its Janet Jackson or someone demonstrating a life saving self examination. They remind me of the kids in school who go all excited over the naked natives in issues of National Geographic. The sad part is that those kids were generally under 10.

Interesting Pt 2.

Another just now moment from Morning Joe. Erin Burnett was on doing her morning economic talk. She then turned to the news that Comcast is looking to buy NBC Universal, something that NBC Universal is strongly denying. Right in the middle of the talk Morning Joe went straight to commercial. When they came back they didn’t even mention the weird break.

It could have been a programming error, but those are generally followed by an explanation. Instead it appears the the higher ups at MSNBC don’t want this news being reported.

“Value Voters” – Please

Posted 9/19/09 at 8:57am by jamie

This video exemplifies everything that is wrong with the right today. At the “value voters summit” attendees decide to be rude and disruptive to reporters from MSNBC and even FOX:

And this is an event that the presidential hopefuls and leading Republicans attend. Putting myself in their shoes (and wow is it scary there), I can see the thrill of going after MSNBC, but FOX? They must be out for blood and it doesn’t matter where it comes from.

But the whole thing gets even better from there. Yesterday’s headliner was none other than Carrie Prejean, the former Miss California who made her fame by blasting gay marriage. Watch as Rachael Maddow tears into her speech going on about the lack of tolerance today.

The Politico Gets It Wrong Again

Posted 9/14/09 at 1:49pm by jamie

I just noticed this article via AmericaBlog:

Some Democrats, led by Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.), are pushing for an official censure of Wilson, with a floor vote on the resolution coming as early as Tuesday.

And the Politico has it wrong. James Clyburn is not asking for censure of Wilson. Instead he is one of the Democrats asking for the much less severe punishment of a “resolution of disapproval” (for more on that check out Greg Sargent’s post). Here is a video of James Clyburn appearing on Hardball last week to discuss his desires in handling Wilson:

MSNBC Pulls Buchanan’s Article

Posted 9/4/09 at 10:27am by jamie

I wrote yesterday about Pat Buchanan’s latest crap article apologizing for Hitler and saying how he was the peaceful one. What I missed was the fact that MSNBC actually had the article up on their site. That lead to some big pressure:

David A. Harris, President of the National Jewish Democratic Council, condemned MSNBC's promotion of the "deplorable" column and urged that it be removed from MSNBC.com.

MSNBC has now pulled that article, but the question still remains – will they continue to employ someone who wrote something so factually wrong and insulting to millions of Americans?
