Chris Matthews just said that he “forgot he (Obama) was a black man for an hour tonight”. WTF does that mean?
Again – MSNBC must fire this idiot. He is way past his time.

Chris Matthews proved again tonight that he in no way should have the job he does. First off he gets into with Alan Grayson, who is supporting the plan for the House to pass the Senate bill and then “patch” it through reconciliation. Matthews accuses Grayson of not being from the “real world” and instead being part of the Netroots.
This is some netroots plan? This is the exact plan that Nancy Pelosi was pushing Wednesday morning and even David Shuster talked about it.
Also tonight Matthews appeared oblivious to what the Supreme Court decision on campaign financing meant. He kept saying it means that corporations could give unlimited amounts of money to candidates, which is false. It means that corporations can spend unlimited amounts of money for a candidate, such as in advertising.
It’s far past time for MSNBC to bring in some new talent and get rid of Matthews. His time is long past gone. The guy doesn’t even understand the basics of our system. He has also become impossible to watch. He doesn’t interview or even try to debate. Instead he just rambles on and on, hardly ever letting his guests talk. The guy is a total waste of two hours a night.

Chris Matthews shows his infinite wisdom yet again:
"And I think we have got to get serious about catching terrorists, not just catching weapons. I‘m waiting for the terrorist who knows kung fu or something that gets on an airplane without a weapon. God knows what that is going to be like."
Welcome to the age of the Steven Seagal/Jean-Claude Van Damme super morphed terrorist! You know – a man who can single handedly take down an entire plan full of passengers with nothing but hand to hand combat.
In other words – Chris Matthews, what a twit!

Chris Matthews just said people who don’t like this crap health care bill are not real Democrats – they are netroots. He then went on to accuse us of not voting our whole lives or doing anything for the party.
Fuck you, you fat pompous ass hole.
I have spent the last 22 years of my life involved in politics. I have always voted. I have gone and busted my ass for countless elections and held party positions. How dare you accuse me of not being a real Democrat.
Do you really think that it is easy for me to oppose this bill? Do you think I’m doing it for fucking money or something? This blog makes less than $100 a year.
You have no right to sit there and accuse me, or any other Democrat going through the pain of watching something we wanted all our lives go down the toilet of not being real Democrats.
And forget about me. What about Howard Dean? This guy was a governor, presidential candidate and chairman of the DNC. You’re saying he isn’t a real Democrat?
No apology will be accepted this time. You have gotten off with saying outrageous things like this too many times and then just going “oops” the next day. It’s past time for MSNBC to show you the same fate as the old horse that just got done running his last race.

I got a feeling tweety felt an awful lot of heat today.
Transcript via Think Progress:
MATTHEWS: Now I’ve heard too many politicians say things like, “oh that was taken out context” to explain something they wish they hadn’t said let me just say to the cadets, their parents, former cadets and everyone who cares about this country and those who defend it: I used the wrong words and worse than that I said something that is just not right and for that I deeply apologize.
As those who watch me regularly probably got right away, my point was that the military up at West Point was probably a skeptical audience for President Obama given his strong position against the war in Iraq and generally more dovish image. I was wrong to make that conclusion based on the lack of applause or apparent enthusiasm in the ranks of officers and cadets last night.

Last night Chris Matthews referred to the former veep as a “troll”. I will give tweety credit on this line, as it was funny, as compared to his comparison of West Point as the “enemy camp”
And so I present us with the official Dick Cheney troll doll:

Tonight in his post speech analysis, Chris Matthews declared Obama "went to maybe the enemy camp tonight" at West Point. The reactions to this senseless comment have been very strong. The left and right have been tweeting up a storm about it and Matthews better retract that statement or face certain outrage from not only the political junkies, but also the military.

I absolutely love Family Guy. It’s by far one of my all time favorites. Last night they really had some fun with Chris Matthews, and Matthews apparently enjoyed it since he did his own voice in this segment:

Watching Tweety talk about the carnage that happened today at Ft. Hood is seriously raising my blood pressure. In a conversation between him and Cliff Van Zandt I have heard 9/11 brought up a few times and reference the main shooters last name, Hasan, as being a key to what has happened. Of course then Matthews precedes to talk about how people will “turn to conspiracy theory and speculation” right after he just spent 32 minutes doing just that.
People like Matthews shouldn’t be allowed on the air when stories like this happen. He has a history of suffering from massive foot in mouth disease, and today is not a time for him to exhibit it. Please MSNBC – yank him off and let Shuster or one of the other’s fill in.

As Bob points out, it’s because the people in the media are:
It's no wonder why people are confused about this stuff. When the so-called very serious "experts" have no flipping clue what they're talking about, it makes it very difficult for their viewers to get it. And it's not like Mr. Five Million Dollar Annual Salary can't afford a staffer to print out the Wikipedia entry for single-payer.
Bob is talking about Chris Matthews, who apparently doesn’t know the difference between single payer and the public option. I have trouble believing Matthews doesn’t actually know the difference. I have a sneaking suspicion that there is something more to it.

The award has to go to this guy, who brought a gun to the townhall yesterday:
Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy
Matthews did a great job at handling him, but I think it could have gone a little further. For example – we have a right to free speech, but does that mean this guy could yell “I’m going to kill you” to the President and not end up locked in a room with Secret Service? Of course not.
Adding that even some on the right are questioning this guy now.

If Ari Fleischer is the best person the right can put out to defend themselves, then they might as well give up now. Here is Chris Matthews making Ari look like a bigger fool than he already is.
Priceless!

Chris Matthews is dead serious about running for the Senate in Pennsylvania - and shopping for a house in the state and privately discussing quitting MSNBC as proof of his intense interest, according to NBC colleagues, political operatives and friends.
Even so, some NBC insiders think it’s all simply a negotiating ploy to jack up his contract.
The garrulous host of the show "Hardball with Chris Matthews" has already picked out a home in Philadelphia to establish residency in the state, according to a Democratic operative in discussions with him about a potential candidacy. Over Thanksgiving weekend, at his vacation house in Nantucket, Matthews’ family gave him their full backing.
If he does end up leaving MSNBC, then it will be interesting to see who MSNBC finds to replace him. Of course it won’t be someone new. MSNBC is a strong believer in recycling – especially when it comes to talent.

Chris Matthews just can’t help himself when it comes to some good old Hillary bashing:
An avowed Clinton lover who was sitting next to Matthews reports: "He was in business class wearing a red baseball hat that said Penn on the back, and the fat [bleep] fell asleep on the train and snored with his mouth open."
During the ride to DC, Matthews awoke from his nap. A fellow passenger asked him, "What's the news tomorrow?" - to which Matthews loudly started talking about President-elect Barack Obama possibly picking Hillary as his secretary of state.
"I don't understand it," Matthews bellowed. "Why would he pick her? I thought we were done with the Clintons. She'll just use it to build her power base. It's Machiavellian. And then we'll have Bill Clinton, too. I thought Obama didn't want drama. He's already got [chief of staff Rahm] Emanuel and [transition team leader John] Podesta. He'll have even more drama with her.</p>
"She's just a soap opera. If he doesn't pick her, everyone will say she's been dissed again, we'll have to live through that again."
At the beginning of this year, old Chris ended up having to do an on air apology to Hillary for bashing her. Maybe it’s time for an intervention.

Chris Matthews like the rest of us have had enough of the Republicans trying to say that this is still a center-right country. He finally called out GOP talking head Todd Harris on this crap being pushed by the GOP - which is another example that they do not listen to the people.
