Washington Post Pulls Out of Freedom Walk

Freedom Walk 2005, a project that was started by the Pentagon is losing
support. The

Washington Post
has dropped out as a sponsor of the event. Post Spokesman
Eric Grant said:

“As it appears that this event could become politicized, The Post has
decided to honor the Washington area victims of 9/11 by making a contribution
directly to the Pentagon Memorial Fund. It is The Post’s practice to avoid
activities that might lead readers to question the objectivity of The Post’s
news coverage.”

Kudos needs to go out to the Washington Post for this decision and seeing the
potential for what this walk will become.

The plans for this walk were announced a couple of weeks ago when disapproval
of the war in Iraq was continuing to rise. Now that Iraq has delay the drafting
of their constitution, the approval ratings are certain to drop even further.
With August a little more than 1/2 over, it is already the fourth deadliest
month for U.S. soldiers since the war started, with 55 soldiers lost.
