And Who Decides “Common Sense” When It Comes To The Law?

Sarah Palin once again opened her mouth (twouth?) and showed her ignorance for the laws of the land:

Yesterday’s ruling that Westboro Baptist could continue to protest the funerals of fallen soldiers was a classic first amendment case. That’s why John Roberts, said that “even hurtful speech on public issues to ensure that we do not stifle public debate.” when authoring the majority (8-1) opinion. The lone voice of dissent was Sam Alito, and that can easily be boiled down to empathy, which he showed in another similar case before.

Common sense would say that what Westboro Baptist does is wrong, but common sense and a reading of the first amendment also says that they have a right to do what they do. Common sense was very much a part of yesterday’s ruling. Where common sense is lacking is in the tweet of Sarah Palin, where she figures we should dictate what is free speech and what isn’t.
