A new poll out by CBS and the New York Times provides some of the most interesting numbers I have seen in a long time. Right now Obama’s approval is at 46%, with his disapproval also at 46%. The numbers are even worse when it comes to his handling of job creating. There only 35% approve, while 58% disapprove.
The numbers get even more interesting when asked who they feel has a clear plan for creating jobs
Does |
Does Not |
|
President Obama | 38% | 56% |
Republicans In Congress | 20% | 71% |
So American’s believe the President has a better plan at creating jobs than the Republicans by almost 2:1. What could be hurting the GOP here? Well one big issue is with their priorities. Asked who they believe the Republicans in Congress favor in their policies, the poll shows a big problem for the right:
Favor rich | 69% |
Favor middle class | 9% |
Favor poor | 2% |
Treat equally | 15% |
Funny how the Republicans talk about Obama and his “class warfare”. It appears that that talk isn’t sticking, especially when the same question was asked about President Obama:
Favor rich | 28% |
Favor middle class | 23% |
Favor poor | 17% |
Treat equally | 21% |
President Obama is viewed much more equal when it comes to his treatment of different classes than the Republicans (MUCH MORE EQUAL!).
But what about job creation? Well the poll breaks this down into by asking if the following are good ideas or bad ideas when it comes to creating jobs. See if you can notice something here:
Good Idea |
Bad Idea |
|
Cut Payroll Tax | 51% | 37% |
Federal government give aid to states to prevent layoffs of teachers and first responders | 65% | 29% |
Use federal money to improve nation’s infrastructure | 80% | 15% |
Reduce taxes to small businesses | 78% | 18% |
Repeal regulations | 50% | 31% |
Cut taxes to large corporations | 27% | 67% |
Raise taxes on those making more than $1 million per year | 65% | 30% |
If you look through those numbers you see large portions of the country support the ideas in the jobs bill that President Obama laid out. As the bill has been broken up, the most supported parts are items the Republicans in Congress have successfully blocked. Again, who is standing with the people and who isn’t?
This poll shows that the President is being hurt by the GOP. The people don’t like the GOP when it comes to jobs, but they are successful in painting Obama as inefficient with their constant blocking of key parts of the jobs plan in Congress. I just wish Americans would realize that this is proof that the GOP is putting politics ahead of governing, which is very bad when you look at the state of our economy and very poor job market. Families are starving while the Republicans worry about nothing more than the next election. That is not patriotic – it’s tantamount to economic terrorism.
