GOP Activist Accused Of Multiple Date-Rape Assaults

A lot of attention has been given to Floyd Corkins, a LGBT activist accused of shooing a security guard at the Family Research Council. The right is using this as a reason to paint the entire LGBT community as violent and possibly domestic terrorists.

Fine, I’ll bite. If the actions of this one man means the entire LGBT community is violent, then the actions of another man means the entire Republican Party is rapists:

The fourth alleged rape victim of Gregory Nathan Peterson delivered shocking testimony in court Wednesday, detailing how the prominent Republican activist physically abused her and raped her twice at his Utah cabin last year.

Peterson, who was also at the preliminary hearing in Salt Lake City, Utah Wednesday, faces multiple charges of assault, rape and kidnapping, after several women have come forward to accuse him of sexual abuse, The Salt Lake City Tribune reported.

So who is Peterson? He is a big time GOP activist in Utah, hosting events for people like Orin Hatch. He is also a Mormon.

So does that mean that not only the GOP, but also the Mormon Church should be qualified as rapists because of the actions of this one man? If we follow the logic of the right, then I would say so. But I don’t subscribe to the irrational grouping of people based upon the actions of an individual. Instead Peterson, like Corkins, acted alone.

There are sick and twisted people out there. There are also people who get hurt by the actions of others. In the case of Peterson, he is the former, while Corkins is the later. Either way, what both men have done is wrong and luckily justice is handling them as we speak.
