The right’s key whistleblower in their Benghazi witch hunt appears to be a big liar:
Dylan Davies, a security officer hired to help protect the United States Special Mission in Benghazi, Libya, gave the F.B.I. an account of the night that terrorists attacked the mission on Sept. 11, 2012 that contradicts a version of events he provided in a recently published book and in an interview with the CBS News program “60 Minutes.”
Mr. Davies told the F.B.I. that he was not on the scene until the morning after the attack.
The information he provided in an F.B.I. interview was described Thursday by two senior government officials as completely consistent with an incident report by the Blue Mountain security business, which had been hired to protect United States interests in Benghazi. The officials who spoke said they had been briefed on the government investigation.
That’s what Davies told officials investigating what happened. But here’s what he wrote in his book and even told 60 Minutes:
The incident report described Mr. Davies as remaining at the villa he occupied in Libya and not getting to the scene on the night of the attack. In the version he wrote in his book and gave to “60 Minutes,” Mr. Davies said he left the villa that night to visit a hospital where he said he saw the body of the deceased ambassador, J. Christopher Stevens, and twice rushed to the scene of the attack.
At the compound, he said, he had a confrontation with an attacker, whom he dispatched with a blow to the face with a rifle butt.
In light of these revelations the publisher, Threshold Editions, part of CBS’ Simon and Shuster, has announced they will be reviewing everything and decide the fate of the publication status of the book. CBS news also released a statement last night:
60 Minutes has learned of new information that undercuts the account told to us by Morgan Jones of his actions on the night of the attack on the Benghazi compound.
We are currently looking into this serious matter to determine if he misled us, and if so, we will make a correction.
Well that was last night and by this morning, it appears that CBS’ has looked into it and believes that Davies’ did lie to them. Here’s Lara Logan on CBS this morning apologizing for the story:
And let’s not forget that this is the very witness that Lindsey Graham has wanted to talk to and vowed to block nominees until he can talk to him. That’s right. Lindsey Graham is vowing a partial government shutdown over what we now know to be lies.
When you base your entire party on crapsiracy theories, you will end up with egg on your face. CBS has now apologized for the fraudulent interview, will the GOP apologize for their chest thumping over a lie? I highly doubt it.
