Open Mouth and Insert Foot – The GOP Strategy

When Biden made his Indian comment a couple of months ago, you could here the pundits around the country gasp. Of course that has been overshadowed by George Allen’s comment and now we get even another layer to throw on From RedState.com:

Tramm Hudson is the current front runner in the GOP primary in FL-13, the Congressional District being vacated by Katherine Harris. RedState has happened upon the clip below of Tramm talking to a group of people. His words will, justifiably, mostly likely destroy his campaign and sink his chances of victory.

Here is the clip:

“I grew up in Alabama. I understand, uh, I know from experience, that blacks are not the greatest swimmers or may not even know how to swim.”

OOPS. Hudson has now issued the following apology:

Tramm Hudson released the following statement with regards to the video posted to Redstate.com today:

“I said something stupid. I apologize for it and would apologize in person to anyone hurt by my comments. To those who are understandably offended, you have my deepest apologies and I want you to know that it was out of character for me and those who know me know that to be a fact. This was a thoughtless remark that does not reflect my lifetime commitment to treating everyone fairly and without bias. I apologize to everyone who is offended by this comment.”

For a party that doesn’t want to be labeled as “the white party”, they sure are good at shooting themselves in the foot. What is interesting is how the right is trying to polish over these comments, yet they take such offense to anything the Democrats say.
