On The 4th Palin Shows Her Hatred Towards Our Freedoms

Funny how Sarah Palin constantly invoked the first amendment as her protection, yet she and her attorney wants to take action against others who are granted protection under it:

The abruptness of her announcement and the mystery surrounding her plans have fed widespread speculation. But Palin attorney Thomas Van Flein on Saturday warned legal action may be taken against bloggers and publications that reprint what he calls fraudulent claims.

“To the extent several websites, most notably liberal Alaska blogger Shannyn Moore, are now claiming as ‘fact’ that Governor Palin resigned because she is ‘under federal investigation’ for embezzlement or other criminal wrongdoing, we will be exploring legal options this week to address such defamation,” Van Flein said in a statement. “This is to provide notice to Ms. Moore, and those who re-publish the defamation, such as Huffington Post, MSNBC, the New York Times and The Washington Post, that the Palins will not allow them to propagate defamatory material without answering to this in a court of law.”

I haven’t seen anything that said she is under federal investigation. Everything has been speculative, written off as rumors, and I can’t think of any judge that would side with Palin on that. And since it sounds like they are going after any sites that might have mentioned or linked to it then I guess that means they will be suing the entire blogosphere as well as a large portion of the internet.

But this gets even more interesting. According to the Huffington Post, the NYTimes and WaPo haven’t even reported on this. Here’s what they have said:

The New York Times and Washington Post haven’t written anything about this, but Van Flein said he believed they were asking questions. “What I’ve been informed is that they’ve been interviewing people in Wasilla about this, and have tried to interview the governor’s parents about it,” Van Flein said.

So the media isn’t even allowed to ask questions now? What about that first amendment Sarah? Pretty shitty way to try and squash what our troops are fighting for. Perhaps the legal departments of these two papers should do a preemptive strike against team Palin.

But wait. I thought the GOP was the party for tort reform, who hated frivolous lawsuits? I guess that isn’t the case anymore.
