These are becoming daily occurrences:
Thunderous explosions and dense black smoke swirled through the center of Baghdad Monday when at least two car bombs — one parked in an underground garage — tore through a crowded marketplace, setting off dozens of secondary explosions and killing at least 71 people, police said. Another bombing nearby killed at least nine.
The blasts shattered the city center on the first anniversary, according to the Muslim lunar calendar, of the bombing of the important Shiite Golden Dome shrine in Samarra. That attack by al-Qaida in Iraq militants set off the torrent of sectarian bloodletting that has turned Baghdad and much of central Iraq into a battleground.
A column of smoke hundreds of feet wide billowed a thousand feet into the air above the market near the east bank of the Tigris River and near the Central Bank building.
Here is a picture the Associated Press has of the bombing:
These are the problems Bush is suppose to fix in the next 3-6 months? I still don’t understand how the additional 20,000 troops are going to do jack for this. Even more so – how is telling Mahliki he has to fix the problems going to do anything? The citizens of New Orleans have been telling the mayor they need to fix the crime problem and they have tried, but it isn’t working. The only option I see is searching every single house within a couple of days to make sure nothing wrong is going on and that will not happen.
Looking at that photo I am also wondering how quickly the war bloggers (Malkin and company) will jump of the AP. They will start another one of their conspiracy theories that it is made up. I can already here them. I bet there is proof of this within the next few hours.
