Another #Fail Of GOP Economics

When the GOP talks about tax breaks for the rich and businesses they always use the argument that the more money business has, the more people they will hire. This has been in a direct conflict of supply and demand economics and more proof is in this:

Despite high unemployment and a largely languishing real estate market, U.S. businesses are more profitable than ever, according to federal figures released on Friday.

U.S. corporate profits hit an all-time high at the end of 2010, with financial firms showing some of the biggest gains, data from the federal Bureau of Economic Analysis show. Corporations reported an annualized $1.68 trillion in profit in the fourth quarter. The previous record, without being adjusted for inflation, was $1.65 trillion in the third quarter of 2006.

Many of the nation's preeminent companies have posted massive increases in profits this year. General Electric posted worldwide profits of $14.2 billion, while profits at JPMorgan Chase were up 47 percent to $4.8 billion.

Corporations Record “Near Historic Profits” As Middle America Suffers

As if this comes as any shocker:

Corporate America finished the second quarter with "near-historic" profits, largely by cutting costs, laying off employees and streamlining operations, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Profits for companies in the S&P 500 soared 38 percent from the same period last year, hitting $189 billion, the WSJ says, the sixth-highest quarterly total ever. S&P analysts expect the trend to have continued in the third quarter.

Since 2008, corporate profits increased 10 percent -- but revenue was down 6 percent, the WSJ says. To achieve the impressive quarterly results, companies have had, as the WSJ puts it, to "streamline" their operations. This means firing workers, outsourcing labor and shuttering

This amounts to a Republican Mecca of capitalism ; the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. And while the poor are eating from hand to mouth, the Tea Partiers want to increase this dangerous economic disparity by doing such things as eliminating the minimum wage.

The thing that drives me crazier than anything though is the minions who by into this “let the corporations rule” meme the right pushes. So many are in the middle class and one down sizing or out sourcing away from hitting hard times. Reality is a myth to these people.

Why Rep. Grayson Is Right

Posted 10/1/09 at 11:30am by jamie

With all the focus on Rep. Grayson telling it like it is, that Republicans want you to die quick if you fall ill, it’s time to focus on what he said is exactly right. Enter Mitch McConnell:

Satisfying every Republican demand short of scrapping the entire project, said Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), would still not capture GOP support.

In other words the Democrats could offer nothing more than 100% GOP plan and the GOP would still vote no. People are dying in this country and the GOP would rather play politics than address the situation at hand.

Now let’s look at what McConnell and the entire GOP view as items less important than watching their counterparts fail. Check out this video of an insurance company denying coverage because of a pre-existing condition:

Catch that? A broken wrist is considered a pre-existing condition and murderous fucks like McConnell, Boehner and the rest of the GOP thinks that is fine.

Let’s talk about something more common – diabetes. Most insurance companies won’t cover the cost of diabetic supplies. That means diabetics have out of pocket expenses of $100 a month just for the testing strips. If the insulin isn’t covered then you can add another $330 a month to that. And this isn’t a problem to the “party of life”? Nope – because these monsters are more worried about political brownie points and corporate profits than they are human life.

Then There Was 2

Cases like the rape allegations against KBR are like Pandora's Box - once you open it then it keeps getting worse:

Congress is asking questions about another ex-employee of government contracting firm KBR who claims she was raped in Iraq.

Letters to the Pentagon and the Justice Department today from Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla. underscore congressional concern about a second alleged assault, this time of a woman from Florida who reportedly worked for a KBR subsidiary in Ramadi, Iraq in 2005.

"I am deeply troubled by recent reports that at least two women who worked in Iraq under contractors for the Department of Defense were sexually assaulted by male coworkers," Nelson wrote Defense Secretary Robert Gates Thursday.

At least some in Congress are taking note of what is happening. Will the administration? Will Dick Cheney reign in on the company he used to run? I doubt it because human life always takes a back seat to corporate profits. That is the basic foundation of "compassionate conservatism". Who would Jesus screw over for a buck?
