Fueling The Hate Like Only Matt Drudge Can Do

Posted 9/11/10 at 4:00pm by jamie

Right now on Drudge’s home page, here is the main headline.

Of course if you go to the article he is linking, you see this:

Hundreds of family members of Sept. 11 victims recited loved ones' names through tears on the ninth anniversary of the attacks Saturday, avoiding direct mention of the political furor over plans for a mosque that later drew thousands of protesters on both sides.

After the ceremony, around 1,000 activists rallied about five blocks from the site of the 2001 attacks to support the proposed Islamic community center. Several hundred others rallied nearby, chanting "USA, USA" and "No mosque here."

This is such a veiled attempt to fuel more animosity towards the Muslim world. The article discusses both sides of the debate, yet Drudge decides to paint it as “Islam” causing it. It’s kind of like blaming the Jews for Hitler.

MSNBC Pulls Buchanan’s Article

Posted 9/4/09 at 10:27am by jamie

I wrote yesterday about Pat Buchanan’s latest crap article apologizing for Hitler and saying how he was the peaceful one. What I missed was the fact that MSNBC actually had the article up on their site. That lead to some big pressure:

David A. Harris, President of the National Jewish Democratic Council, condemned MSNBC's promotion of the "deplorable" column and urged that it be removed from MSNBC.com.

MSNBC has now pulled that article, but the question still remains – will they continue to employ someone who wrote something so factually wrong and insulting to millions of Americans?

Glenn Beck Admits He’s Wrong!!!

Posted 4/1/09 at 6:59pm by jamie

Oh my!

It all adds up to me, having to admit that I was wrong. Our government is not marching down the road towards communism or socialism. … But now I have to tell you that they’re not marching us that direction. They’re marching us to a non-violent fascism. Or to put it another way, they’re marching us to 1984. Big Brother. … Like it or not, fascism is on the rise.

“Non-violent”, which was evident by Beck’s choice of Nazi films playing in the background. I guess Beck thinks Hitler was “non-violent”.

He also tries to say that fascism has been on the rise in this country since the 1910's.

Exit question – why is this guy allowed to walk around in public unsupervised? The fascism that Beck was playing on his big-screen practiced executing the mentality ill. Does Beck want that? Is he really that suicidal?

Bigger Than Madoff

Posted 2/17/09 at 8:51am by jamie

Finally we are starting to see some accountability from the wasted adventure called Iraq:

In what could turn out to be the greatest fraud in US history, American authorities have started to investigate the alleged role of senior military officers in the misuse of $125bn (£88bn) in a US -directed effort to reconstruct Iraq after the fall of Saddam Hussein. The exact sum missing may never be clear, but a report by the US Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction (SIGIR) suggests it may exceed $50bn, making it an even bigger theft than Bernard Madoff's notorious Ponzi scheme.

Remember – most of this happened while Republicans controlled Congress. Democrats weren’t allowed to mention this stuff for fear of being called Hitler, unpatriotic or some other name. That doesn’t excuse the Democrats though for not pushing forward with investigations once they took control of Congress. I just don’t know how far it would have gone with Bush in office. So perhaps its time to look at new laws defining what the President can and can’t do even more now. We need an oversight branch of our military and that branch should be Congress – not the same branch that leads it.

Common Sense

Melissa_Etheridge Finally! From Juan Cole:

I was told that Warren's friends among the MPAC Muslim community had urged him to call Melissa Etheridge Friday night in the run-up to their being (serially) on the same stage Saturday night, and that he did so and they talked for half an hour. During his address, Warren mentioned also seeing Etheridge backstage on Saturday.

Local television in Los Angeles showed a short clip of Etheridge after the event asking gay leaders to reach out to Warren, just as they wanted him to reach out to them.

This stance was big of her, since she and her partner had planned to marry but were prevented from doing so by the same Proposition 8 that Warren worked for, and she was so upset she suggested she would refuse to pay California taxes since she is obviously not considered a full citizen by her fellow Californians.

All this comparing Obama to Hitler or the Klan and nastiness coming out of the blogosphere is so destructive. Now we finally have someone directly effected by Prop 8 coming out and saying “let’s talk”. Etheridge is definitely the voice of reason in a swamp of ridicule.

Hagee as Moses?

Posted 5/23/08 at 5:07pm by jamie

That's what Joe Lieberman said last year:

During a banquet at CUFI's 2007 convention, I watched with astonishment as Lieberman strode to the stage, then compared Hagee to Moses (watch Lieberman's remarks at 5:30 of my video) "I want to take to opportunity to describe Pastor Hagee in the terms the Torah used to describe Moses," Lieberman declared. "He is an Ish Elohim. A man of God. And those words really do fit him. And I have something else," the senator continued. "Like Moses, he's become the leader of a mighty multitude. Even greater than the multitude that Moses led from Egypt to the Promised Land."

And we have video (go to about the 5:30 mark):

So does that mean Lieberman also thinks Hitler was doing God's work? If so then it proves Lieberman cares nothing about Israel and only about war.

McCain's Day Of Rejection

Posted 5/23/08 at 8:23am by jamie

Now that McCain has rejected the support of two big televangelists, where does it leave him? I have a couple thoughts on it.

First off, it takes Jeremiah Wright off the table. If McCain starts using that, then does he really want the Obama campaign and their vast resources making sure the entire population know exactly what Hagee has said about the Jewish and Catholic people? "God Damn America" sure sounds a lot better than "Hitler was God's hunter".

Second - McCain needs to answer why he waited so long to reject the support of these two pastors he actively courted. Just saying he rejects them now isn't good enough. Why the change of heart? He has been questioned about the two for months and asked about these things they have said. Did McCain reject it now that "the cat's out of the bag"? We saw the whole Obama/Wright thing play out before our eyes. The McCain pastor problem hasn't.

Finally - how is the right wing base going to respond to this? A lot of them share the views of Parsley and Hagee, so will McCain take a big hit from this? I sure hope so, and it's going to be interesting to see how the McCain campaign tries to handle the damage control for this.

One last thing - will the media keep playing this over and over again? Even after Obama rejected Wright, it was still all the talk for the following week. In the interest of fair time, McCain should get the same amount of attention on the issue. I know the McCain camp won't be pushing for fair time on it, but I will dammit!

McCain's Other Pastor Problem

Posted 5/22/08 at 9:25am by jamie

Good Morning America did a big report about McCain's spiritual adviser, Rod Parsley. Parsley has called for the destruction of the Muslim world, and they know it. Here's the clip:

So we got one of his pastors calling for the destruction of the Muslim world, while his other pastor is praising Hitler as doing "God's work" for killing millions of Jews. This is hatred in the worst form, and John McCain refuses to denounce it. Oh and let's not forget what Hagee has said about Catholics.

Since McCain refuses to denounce this stuff, I guess he embraces these views. Why don't he go ahead and put on the funny white hat and burn some crosses while he's at it?

Gonzales Gets Stripped Of "Lawyer of the Year" Title

Posted 12/15/07 at 8:38am by jamie

It looks like people didn't appreciate the ABA naming Gonzales Lawyer of the Year, even if they did try to associate it with Time naming Hitler Person of the Year:

The ABA Journal posted an article titled “Lawyers of the Year 2007 & 2008” on ABA Journal.com, on Dec. 12, 2007.  The article defined that term as the year’s biggest legal newsmaker, identifying former U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales as the major newsmaker of 2007.  The Journal regrets that we did not make this theme clear.

We appreciate the feedback we’ve received, and we’re acting on it.  So that there can be no confusion, the term “Lawyers of the Year” has been changed in the headline and story to “Newsmakers of the Year.”  The story is otherwise unchanged from its original version.

By reading the ABA's statement, it appears a lot of attorneys around the country didn't appreciate that title going to Gonzo. I can't say I really blame them for being upset over it - the lawyers I know don't like to even associate Gonzales as being in the same profession as them.

The Boobs YouTube debate!

Posted 11/28/07 at 8:02pm by jamie

So it has started. Anderson Cooper starts off by announcing they have 2,000 more questions than the Democratic debate, and the crowd goes wild. Gee it only took 4 months extra for them to put out 2,000 extra videos.

UPDATE 8:15

FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!

Rudy and Mitt going at each other about immigration. This is great! Each are accusing the other of hiring illegal immigrants.

And it gets better. After a 3 minute fight, Anderson Cooper tries to move on and Rudy won't let him. The crowd gave "America's Mayor" a big boo.

UPDATE 8:30

It's over. Cooper has zero control over these people and all they are doing is fighting with one another. The next 90 minutes will be a free for all.

UPDATE 8:40

Ron Paul = Hitler. So says John McCain.

UPDATE 8:45

What a bunch of fucking idiots! They are all talking about how they will cut taxes and spending. Funny when you got 3 current members of Congress and one current Senator saying this. So in other words - we screwed up at this level of government, so give us a promotion and see how we do. Hey - that does sound right. Failure = achievement to the GOP. Or should that be the Medal of Freedom?

Punishing Injured Soldiers

Posted 2/28/07 at 11:00am by jamie

That is is from the Army Times:

Soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center’s Medical Hold Unit say they have been told they will wake up at 6 a.m. every morning and have their rooms ready for inspection at 7 a.m., and that they must not speak to the media.

“Some soldiers believe this is a form of punishment for the trouble soldiers caused by talking to the media,” one Medical Hold Unit soldier said, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

So these brave soldiers go to Iraq and get injured. When they return they are put in rat-infested rooms while they are supposed to heal. Some soldiers decide that isn't right and talks to the media about the problems, and for this they get this treatment? This is highly FUCKED UP!

The article goes on to say how the Pentagon is even trying to black out the media from this story:

The Pentagon also clamped down on media coverage of any and all Defense Department medical facilities, to include suspending planned projects by CNN and the Discovery Channel, saying in an e-mail to spokespeople: “It will be in most cases not appropriate to engage the media while this review takes place,” referring to an investigation of the problems at Walter Reed.

Another Reason Bush Needs Impeached And Rummy Needs Fired

Posted 10/27/06 at 4:55pm by jamie

No wonder more and more soldiers are getting pissed about Iraq. We now have the very government they defend trying to censure their lives online. This is highly disturbing:

We realize that when it comes to freedom of the press, the USA has fallen to Number 53 in the world — tied with our fascist homies in Croatia and the islanders of the Kingdom of Tonga! — but do we have to make is so damned obvious?

Another Marine stationed in Iraq has sent us a screenshot of what happens when you need some hot news on Macaca and Foley:

forbidden, this page (http://www.wonkette.com) is categorized as (Personal Pages) ALL SITES YOU VISIT ARE LOGGED AND FILED.

Nice little threat at the end, too. Asswipes.

Wonkette also has a screenshot, which show two right-wing sites loaded in the tabs, but her site and Josh Marshall's site are blocked.

The very tone of that warning is the most disturbing. "All sites you visit are logged and filed". So it is a crime now for a member of the United States armed services to view left-wing politics? This is the kind of policy Donald Rumsfeld lets go on in his Pentagon.

The right is trying to use the threat of impeachment as a reason to vote for Republicans. Well did Bill Clinton deny the basic constitutional rights of the people who defend our Constitution? Absolutley not. Yes Bush needs impeached and Rumsfeld needs charged for violating the civil rights of these soldiers. With these kind of actions by our leaders, it is no wonder people compare them to Hitler. Sadly I feel that might be an insult on Hitler now.

Operation Denial

Posted 3/20/06 at 12:47am by jamie

The following article in the AP entitled "Bush Marks Anniversary, Never Says 'War' " really had me going. It seems to try and fight back at his claims that the media "exaggerates" what is happening in Iraq he will try and sugar coat it:

President Bush marked the anniversary of the Iraq war Sunday by touting the efforts to build democracy there and avoiding any mention of the daily violence that rages three years after he ordered an invasion.

The president didn't utter the word "war."

"We are implementing a strategy that will lead to victory in Iraq," the president assured a public that is increasingly skeptical that he has a plan to end the fighting after the deaths of more than 2,300 U.S. troops.

Pretty funny how we are implementing a strategy three years after the invasion started. A more correct response would be "we are righting the wrongs we have made to help make Iraq more secure". We keep hearing about this "plan". We even had a publication put out by the White House of their "plan". The problem is this "plan" appears to be the same thing we have been doing.

Something else in this same article that really struck my eye was a statement by Rumsfeld:

"Now is the time for resolve, not retreat," Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld wrote in a column for The Washington Post. "Turning our backs on postwar Iraq today would be the modern equivalent of handing postwar Germany back to the Nazis."

Amazing how they get so defensive when someone compares our military prisons to gulags or Bush to Hitler yet they can easily make Nazi analogies. That's not what really got to me though. What really got the old wheels turning was trying to remember when another nation invaded Germany and opened it up to the Nazis. Suddenly I remembered - that is not the way it went.
