Crossing The Aisle

Posted 10/2/08 at 10:13am by jamie

Obama made the gesture last night of crossing the aisle to say hello to his opponent:

He [Obama] walked over to where McCain was chatting with Republican Sen. Mel Martinez of Florida and Independent Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman of Connecticut. And he stretched out his arm and offered his hand to McCain.

McCain shook it, but with a “go away” look that no one could miss. He tried his best not to even look at Obama.

Finally, with a tight smile, McCain managed a greeting: “Good to see you.”

We are seeing the meltdown of McCain in real time, and its not pretty. If being down in the polls is causing this, can you imagine what he will be like on election night as the results come rolling in? I almost feel sorry for his campaign at this point.

Why I Just Love Pundits

They are going crazy trying to spin away the mountain of new polls showing Obama breaking way out in the lead. Chuck Todd is a major player in this spin game. But it's funny when you think back a couple week ago when McCain had his post-convention bounce. Then all we heard was that Obama should be way out ahead with the change atmosphere. Like I have said in the past - Obama's dammed if he does, dammed if he doesn't.

Mean Jean Schmidt Mimics McCain

(wow I haven't had to pull that one out of the archives in awhile)

This is absolutely hilarious. Jean Schmidt has decided to give her campaign the back seat so she can focus on the bailout. Really? She is a junior Congressperson, doesn't sit on any committee that matters in this crisis and not a part of the leadership.

Hey - now is a time to give to a great candidate. Vic Wulsin almost beat her last time and now she has even a better chance. Help put her over the top.

The Good Side

There is a silver lining to what happened today. Congress is in recess until Thursday, meaning they could pass something on Thursday, but that is not very likely. That means we got a debate Thursday night with Sarah Palin and Joe Biden and the economy will be brought up. Considering Palin's dismal responses to Couric's questions on the economy, she will destroy herself. The best part is that Biden don't even have to do anything - just sit there and let her talk.

There will also be questions about McCain's involvement in the bailout brought up.McCain's going to try everything to spin himself out of the pickle he has placed himself in, but that is not very likely given the public perception of McCain now, as evident by the polls. So now Palin's big night just had a few more obstacles put in.

Oh and let's not forget what we saw today. McCain needs Palin on the trial with him to bring in any kind of crowd. Every minute she is out giving speeches is time away from prep work. Thursday can't get here quick enough!

Republicans Upset At Pelosi For Speaking The Truth

Posted 9/29/08 at 4:39pm by jamie

Here's the video of what I mentioned earlier. Essentially the Republicans are pissed because Pelosi said that it was the Bush administrations ideology and lack of regulation and oversight that lead us to this. Of course she spoke the truth and even McCain said the same thing last week. In other words, the Republicans had no intentions of voting for this and they have now manufactured a scapegoat - albeit not a good one.

Pelosi's Remarks To The House (UPDATE)

Posted 9/29/08 at 4:02pm by jamie

Below the fold is the prepared remarks that Nancy Pelosi read on the House floor that was supposed to be the "partisan speech" she gave which pissed off Republicans. I have read it a few times now and can't find a thing bad about it. It sounds like the Republicans are out looking for a scapegoat.

Update:

Norah O'Donnell is saying it's because she blamed Bush and the lack of oversight that Republicans got pissy. Guess what? That is exactly what happened, and even in the debate McCain was saying the same thing. Republicans had no intention of passing this thing and they are just making excuses now. Talk about being cheap.

Rasmussen: Obama Up By 6%

Posted 9/27/08 at 12:13pm by jamie

Obama has been rising in Rasmussen's daily tracker (as well as all others). Today he now has a 6 point lead, 50%-44%. This is the three day average poll, so it includes Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Tomorrow will be the first tracking poll covering the entire McCain drama from this week. Tuesday will be the first full post-debate poll.

Leading Conservative Columist Calls For Palin To Step Down

Posted 9/26/08 at 2:41pm by jamie

Kathleen Parker is not the "liberal media". No sir - she is one of the nation's leading conservative columnists, and this is what she says:

Only Palin can save McCain, her party, and the country she loves. She can bow out for personal reasons, perhaps because she wants to spend more time with her newborn. No one would criticize a mother who puts her family first.

Oh snap!

McCain Wins The Debate! (Could this be why he decided to debate?)

Wow! It only seems like an hour ago that McCain said he would debate. And here I thought it was Friday and the debate was tonight!. Where has time gone? Chris Cillizza has some ideas.

UPDATE:

I just noticed the on Cillizza's post that the first comment was at 11:08am today, about 30 minutes before news broke that McCain would debate. Was this ad running the reason McCain ended up debating? If he ended up not showing up, then we would see the "Dewey Defeats Truman" of 2008 emerging.
