GOP War On Women Backlash

Posted 4/2/12 at 9:40am by jamie

It looks like the GOP's attempts to paint women as irresponsible nitwits that have no idea about their own reproductive health is really starting to pay off - for President Obama:

In the fifth Swing States survey taken since last fall, Obama leads Republican front-runner Mitt Romney 51%-42% among registered voters just a month after the president had trailed him by two percentage points.

The biggest change came among women under 50. In mid-February, just under half of those voters supported Obama. Now more than six in 10 do while Romney's support among them has dropped by 14 points, to 30%. The president leads him 2-1 in this group.

This is a huge shift and to show the gender gap now present:

Romney's main advantage is among men 50 and older, swamping Obama 56%-38%.

And it looks like Women are really abandoning the GOP as a whole:

While women typically are more likely to identify themselves as Democrats than men are, that difference widens to a chasm in the USA TODAY poll. By 41%-24%, women call themselves Democrats; men by 27%-25% say they're Republicans.

But I'm sure they don't know what they are talking about. They are just a bunch of dumb broads after all. Or that's at least what I'm sure the Republican brains are saying in a backroom somewhere.

Republican Enthusiasm Takes A Nose Dive

Posted 12/8/11 at 12:07pm by jamie

A new poll out by Gallup shows a strong decrease in enthusiasm for Republicans and Republican leaning independents. In September 58% of these voters were more enthusiastic about this election, but a new poll out has that number slipping to 49%. The Republicans are still winning in this part of the race, with the Democrats holding steady at 44%, but generally Republicans need a much stronger show of enthusiasm, which translates to votes, in order to be successful.

This is what happens when you have a GOP field with people that their party doesn't even want. Newt Gingrich is like a cancer to the right and they just flat out hate Mitt Romney. I've said numerous times before that the state of the GOP is really sad when they can't find a viable candidate to take on President Obama, especially given his very low popularity and the state of our economy.

Wouldn't it be nice if this was the start of the end of political parties?

CBS/NYT Poll: American’s Support Obama’s Ideas, But Not Obama

Posted 10/26/11 at 11:12am by jamie

A new poll out by CBS and the New York Times provides some of the most interesting numbers I have seen in a long time. Right now Obama’s approval is at 46%, with his disapproval also at 46%. The numbers are even worse when it comes to his handling of job creating. There only 35% approve, while 58% disapprove.

The numbers get even more interesting when asked who they feel has a clear plan for creating jobs

Does

Does Not

President Obama 38% 56%
Republicans In Congress 20% 71%

So American’s believe the President has a better plan at creating jobs than the Republicans by almost 2:1.  What could be hurting the GOP here? Well one big issue is with their priorities. Asked who they believe the Republicans in Congress favor in their policies, the poll shows a big problem for the right:

The Biggie That Could Give Us A President Bachmann

Posted 8/20/11 at 9:19am by jamie

As anyone who reads this blog somewhat regularly knows, I feel there is a big risk of a President Bachmann in 2013. I have given plenty of reasons previously, but the biggest one that scares me is the enthusiasm gap on the left. A new Public Policy Polling poll verifies that fear:

There's been plenty of bad news for Barack Obama this month in the form of his approval numbers, but our polling finds that his problems go deeper than that. Democratic enthusiasm about voting in next year's election has hit a record low this month.

Only 48% of Democrats on our most recent national survey said they were 'very excited' about voting in 2012. On the survey before that the figure was 49%. Those last two polls are the only times all year the 'very excited' number has dipped below 50%.

In 13 polls before August the average level of Democrats 'very excited' about voting next year had averaged 57%. It had been as high as 65% and only twice had the number even dipped below 55%.

Face it - the left is getting fed up. The President has constantly caved to the demands of the right, yet the right and the media makes it sound like everything sound like a victory for the left. Team Obama is also doing nothing to soothe over the disconnect between him and the base. That can easily lead to disaster next month.

With Bachmann in the top three in the Republican field and barring any last minute entries by some golden child, the fear of President Bachmann continues to grow. Just consider the two leading Bachmann - Romney and Perry. Both have parts of the base that absolutely doesn't like them. Bachmann is somewhat back burner now, so most people don't have much of an opinion of her, except that she has an R by her name.

Who Thinks Raising Taxes Is A Good Idea?

Posted 8/11/11 at 10:13am by jamie

Apparently a majority of Americans. In 23 polls conducted asking if tax hikes should also be included to help reduce the deficit, a vast majority said "yes". An average of 65 percent of respondents to be exact. That's almost 2/3 of this country. The responses ranged from 56%-76%, with the low number being attributed to a right-wing Rasmussen poll.

And I thought John Boehner was going to listen to the people! Silly me.....

Conservative Voters Want Anti-HCR Congressmen To Forgo Their Healthcare

Posted 11/23/10 at 5:12pm by jamie

John Boehner has said that they are listening to the people, so will they listen to this poll?

A 53% majority of registered voters also think that those who came into power campaigning on Obamacare repeal should decline their federal health plan, and only a third think they should accept it.  Many Democrats have been pushing Republicans to deny their benefits, but among all voters, the pressure is actually by far stronger with Republicans and independents than with Democrats.

When you read the crosstabs, 55% of conservatives say they should decline it. My guess is that the so called conservatives who got elected this year will just ignore this poll though. Maybe someone should ask freshman Rep. Andy Harris if he will change his demands for his government run healthcare now.

GOP Arguments Falling Apart Quick Now

Posted 3/23/10 at 2:50pm by jamie

The whole argument that the Democrats didn’t listen to the American people that Republicans like John Boehner keeps telling us is starting to fail. Look at this from Gallup:

As you may know, yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill that restructures the nation’s healthcare system. All in all, do you think it is a good thing or a bad thing that Congress passed this bill?

Good thing 49%
Bad thing 40%
Don’t know 11%

This is the first post bill passing poll I have seen and so far the numbers are very good for Democrats. If this trend continues then November might be a very bad month for Republicans.

A Majority Of Israelis View Obama As Friendly And Fair

Posted 3/19/10 at 12:13pm by jamie

Nothing gets to me more than hearing Republicans talk about Obama and how he is anti-Israel. Of course these Republicans aren’t Jewish, but if you don’t listen to them then you don’t know what you are talking about. Well it seems like Israel is speaking out and showing that the Republicans are just flat out wrong:

Some 27 percent of Israelis believe that U.S. President Barack Obama is anti-Semitic, according to a Haaretz-Dialog poll conducted this week.

Another 56 percent questions said they don't believe politicians who call Obama anti-Semitic or hostile to Israel, or who say he is "striving to topple Netanyahu."

On the whole, Obama's popularity may be declining in American public opinion, but a sweeping majority of Israelis think his treatment of this country is friendly and fair.

Sorry Republicans but you are again on the wrong side of international relations. No big shocker there.

Is Brown Winning Out Of Greed?

Posted 1/18/10 at 11:18am by jamie

There has been a lot of focus on the Massachusetts Senate race to replace the late Ted Kennedy and some are trying to paint it as a repudiation of President Obama and health care reform. One of the key findings in the new PPP poll released last night was that those planning on voting oppose the health care bill 48% to 40%.

This morning on Morning Joe, Chris Matthews brought up a really interesting point about this. He said that maybe the people of Massachusetts feel like they are getting a double punch by health care reform. They already have their own reform in the state, which they pay for through taxes, so having a federal system to them would end up leaving them feeling they are paying for others. There really could be a lot of truth for this.

So is the opposition to health care and the reason Brown is doing so well in Massachusetts because they already have their own reform? I’m sure not all people of the state feel or believe this, but there is a really good chance that enough of them do to propel Brown ahead and maybe even deliver him to the Senate. If that’s the case it will be a crappy deal for the rest of America.

Party Over Issues

Posted 11/18/09 at 12:09pm by jamie

CNN has ran a very interesting poll that gives us a lot to think about:

The poll indicates that a slight majority, 51 percent, of Republicans would prefer to see the GOP in their area nominate candidates who agree with them on all the major the issues even if they have a poor chance of beating the Democratic candidate. Forty-three percent of Republicans say they would rather have candidates with whom they don't agree on all the important issues but who can beat the Democrats.

Democrats polled seemed to place a slightly higher priority on electoral victory: 58 percent say that they would like their party to nominate candidates who can beat Republicans, even if they don't agree with those candidates on all the issues. Fewer than 4 in 10 Democrats say they would rather see their party nominate candidates who agree with them on all major issues, but have a poor chance of beating the Republican candidate.

When you first read this you would assume that the Republicans put issues ahead of party, which seems like a great thing. Actually it isn’t. What the poll shows is that the Republicans have an 8 point deficit in self-identified Republicans believing in the party, while Democrats are +20. Here’s the reason given for this:

"One reason for the difference between the parties: the Democrats have a relatively even split on ideological grounds. Thirty-four percent of Democrats are liberal, 40 percent are moderates and less than one in four call themselves conservatives," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

By contrast, 73 percent of Republicans questioned in the poll say they are conservatives, with only 26 percent describing themselves as liberal or moderate Republicans.

Why Does YouTube Allow Videos Threatening Our President To Remain Online?

Posted 10/7/09 at 4:47pm by jamie

The Southern Poverty Law Center has posted about  video on YouTube right now:

Here’s an ominous posting on YouTube from the “Patriot” crowd. It advises President Obama and other prominent people (“Our Dear Leader and co.”) to “leave now and give us our country back” and to do so by next week.

“If you stay,” the silent video message continues, “ ‘We, The People’ will systematically dismantle you, destroy you and reclaim what is rightfully ours. …

“We are angry and we are ready to take back the rights of the people. We will fight and We will win.

(h/t Cesca)

Here is the YouTube video:

This video has been on YouTube for 3 days now. Why hasn’t it been pulled? To me it goes far beyond the Facebook poll last week which asked if the President should be killed. Google should hold up to their civic duty and yank the video and forward all information of the uploader to the Secret Service.

Facebook Poll – Should Obama Be Killed?

Posted 9/28/09 at 1:08pm by jamie

Pam Spaulding caught this nasty poll running on Facebook by a third party developer:

killpoll

The poll has been disabled by Facebook so action has been taken. Hopefully further action will take place in the form of the Secret Service checking out the developer.

UPDATE:

Greg Sargent has posted the following:

The Secret Service is investigating the circumstances surrounding an eye-opening Facebook poll that asked whether Obama should be assassinated, a Secret Service spokesman confirms to us.

“We are taking the appropriate investigative steps,” the spokesman, Ed Donovan, told our reporter, Amanda Erickson. “We are aware of it.”

According to Greg it was the Secret Service that told Facebook to pull that poll.

Scarborough: Everyone Agrees With Cheney

Posted 5/21/09 at 8:11am by jamie

Shorter Scarborough just now:

If you took a poll you would find everyone agrees with Cheney on nation security instead of Obama.

Then shorter Mika:

Yes master Joe – you are correct as always.

It really tells you how bad Scarborough’s views are when MSNBC has to pay someone to just agree with him on everything so he looks good. Glenn Beck doesn’t even need that.
