One Disgruntled Teabagger Apparently Wants Her Money Back

Posted 4/15/10 at 9:57pm by jamie

It looks like some were planning on going to tonight’s big Tea Party rally in Cincinnati just for the purpose of seeing Sean Hannity. Now that Fox executives forced him to cancel his appearance we have someone wanting a refund:

Pat Kellison said she wants her money back. She'd not only bought the book but paid $20 for preferred seating to watch the taping of Hannity's show.

"I'm not happy," said Kellison.

But the proceeds from the tickets are going to the Cincinnati Tea Party. Doesn’t Pat care about the tea party? Perhaps its that the Tea Party can only really draw crowds when there is a big name attached, you know, names like Sarah Palin. That kind of puts a whole damper on the “grassroots” meme, doesn’t it?

I expect a lot more will be demanding refunds for tonight’s show and all the while Sean Hannity and the Cincinnati Tea Party are left with egg on their face.

Rick Warren Needs Financial Help

Posted 12/31/09 at 11:16am by jamie

I’m sure we’ll all be breaking open our wallets soon:

Evangelical pastor Rick Warren appealed to parishioners at his California megachurch Wednesday to help fill a $900,000 deficit by the first of the year.

Warren made the appeal in a letter posted on the Saddleback Church Web site. It begins "Dear Saddleback Family, THIS IS AN URGENT LETTER."

"With 10 percent of our church family out of work due to the recession, our expenses in caring for our community in 2009 rose dramatically while our income stagnated," the letter reads.

This really puts a damper on the whole notion that private charities can handle social problems better than the government. When you have severe economic down turns like we are in right now, then people don’t have the money to donate to these groups. That was also seen over Christmas as charities had to turn away needy families wanting food for Christmas. It also boils down to simple common sense, and since the right never exhibits that trait it’s no wonder they are the ones pushing for the charities to become the nation’s giver of social services.

Double Standards

Posted 6/27/09 at 7:46am by jamie

There is no argument that when it comes to our politicians and their little sexcapades we have a double standard in this nation – a standard clearly divided amongst party lines.

Take John Edwards, Bill Clinton, Elliot Spitzer or Jim McGreevey. These four Democrats suffered severely for their extramarital affairs. One was impeached, two were force out of office and the other has no political future.

But when we switch to the Republican side and look at Mark Sanford, John Ensign, David Vitter and Larry Craig, they were able to continue. Craig of course decided not to run again, but that was his choice. Mark Sanford and John Ensign have vowed to stay in office even though the hypocrisy now triumphs over any good they can do. These were men who adamantly yelled for Bill Clinton to be impeached. Now that they are swimming in the same pool, impeachment isn’t an option.

So why is this? I can only assume that Democrats are held to a higher standard by the public and their own beliefs. This really puts a damper on the Republican Party being the party of values, since every value they claim to believe they end up ignoring.

Republicans have a major problem moving forward. Not only are they viewed poorly on every issue across the board, but the one issue they always did have is now gone. That issue is family values. People like Tony Perkins try to hold on to yesteryear and thinking the Republicans are the superior moral beings, but the people have realized that Republican superiority is now synonymous with hypocrisy.

Richard Clarke On That New al Qaeda Tape

Posted 11/19/08 at 9:28pm by jamie

080402_clarke This makes such perfect sense:

"Obama's election has taken the wind out of al Qaeda's sails in much of the Islamic world because it demonstrates America's renewed commitment to multiculturalism, human rights, and international law. It also proves to many that democracy can work and overcome ethnic, sectarian, or racial barriers.

"Obama's commitment to withdraw from Iraq also takes away an al Qaeda propaganda tenet: that the U.S. seeks to occupy oil rich Arab lands. His commitment to defeat al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan also challenges their plans. Most of all, by returning to American values the world admires, Obama sets al Qaeda back enormously in the battle of ideas, the ideological struggle which determines whether al Qaeda will continue to have significant support in the Islamic world."

-Richard Clarke

Al Qaeda now has to face a United States with a President who is highly respected around the world. This puts a serious damper on their PR tactics. Yes – this is change you can believe in.

BREAKING: NBC Reports Palin Is McCain's Pick

Posted 8/29/08 at 10:45am by jamie

NBC just did a breaking news cut in to report they have learned that Alaska Governor Sarah Palin will be McCain's VP pick. It looks very probable as there are reports that she flew into Hook Field last night:

A Gulfstream IV jet owned by a firm in Kirkland, Wash., landed at Hook Field Municipal Airport late Thursday night is believed to have had Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on board as a passenger.

National media outlets have identified the first-term Alaska governor, the first woman elected to the position, as a possible vice presidential candidate for Arizona Sen. John McCain, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee.

Chuck Todd has just referred to this pick as a big gamble. I would have to agree. McCain has gone with someone really not known and the debate between her and Biden will be interesting.

Something else important on this is the experience issue. Palin would be a heartbeat away from becoming Commander in Chief. Her political career is very short, so that puts a damper on the experience argument against Obama.

UPDATE:

All news outlets are now confirming it.

The Republicans Want War Soooo Bad

Posted 12/13/07 at 9:16am by jamie

It amazes me how disappointed the Republicans are that the NIE put a damper on their wet dream of a war with Iran:

Some Republicans in Congress are second-guessing a government intelligence report that Iran has abandoned its nuclear weapons program. They want a second opinion.

The National Intelligence Estimate, released last week, concludes Iran halted its weapons development program in 2003 and that the program remained frozen through at least the middle of this year. That reversed a key finding from a 2005 intelligence report, which said Iran was intently developing a nuclear bomb. An unclassified summary of the new report was released specifically to correct that impression.

In 2003 the NIE said Iran was not seeing nuclear weapons. In 2005 it said they were seeking nuclear weapons. Now it says they stopped seeking them in 2003. Now here is something that would have changed between 2003 and 2005 - they lost on of their intelligence people who was working on Iran and WMD. Who was that agent? Oh yeah - Valerie Plame, the person the administration exposed because her husband said the administrations claims of Iraq's nuclear ambitions were bogus.

The other amazing part is that when this new NIE came out, Bush came out and touted it as proof his restructuring of the intelligence communities worked. So these Republicans are going against Bush now? Are they trying to armchair quarterback our Commander in Chief into another war?

And Then There Was One

Posted 5/10/07 at 10:05am by jamie

One leader of a nation that devised a sinister plan to lie to their people and invade a nation that is:

Tony Blair said Thursday he would step down as prime minister on June 27, closing a decade of power in which he fostered peace in Northern Ireland and followed the United States to a war in Iraq that cost him much of his popularity.

In a somber farewell, Blair made way for Treasury chief Gordon Brown to take the top post. The British leader looked overcome with emotion, struggling to retain his trademark broad grin as loud cheers rang out.

Following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the United States, it was right, Blair said, to "stand shoulder to shoulder with our oldest ally, and I did so out of belief."

"Hand on heart, I did what I thought was right," Blair told party workers and supporters at Trimdon Labour Club in his Sedgefield constituency in northern England. "I may have been wrong, but that's your call. But believe one thing if nothing else. I did what I thought was right for our country."

It will be interesting to see what Blair's successor decides to do with Iraq. If he takes office then pulls all U.K. troops from Iraq then we will most likely have to increase the "surge". This will put a real damper on the GOP September deadline.

Destroying Iraq

Posted 9/21/05 at 4:49pm by jamie

An interesting story has been developing in Iraq over the
past couple days, and its one that does not seem to be gaining attention here in
the United States. With the Katrina recovery and Rita steaming forward as a
category 4 hurricane, it should be no shock as this information really shows a
state of anarchy that Iraq is now turning into.

As reported by the

Independent
, Basra turned into a bloody bath after a British soldier
allegedly killed an Iraqi police officer. The soldier and his accomplice were
being held in a Basra jail awaiting their trial.

A couple nights ago, British troops mounted a daring smash
and grab rescue to free the two soldiers. Using helicopters and up to 10 tanks,
the British forces smashed through the prison wall and freed their colleagues.
The rescue also allowed approximately 150 criminals to escape the prison.

Mohammed al-Waili, the provincial governor, condemned the
escape as "barbaric, savage and irresponsible". This conflicts with the ministry
of defenses report of the release being “negotiated”.

Basra has been long termed one of the safer regions of the
embattled country. This action by British troops has turned the tables on the
level of safety there.

Today citizens of Basra took to the streets waving guns and
AK-47’s denouncing the hostile rescue of the soldiers. The
Associated
Press
is reporting:

The demonstrators in Basra shouted "No to occupation!"
and carried banners condemning "British aggression and demanding the freed
soldiers be tried in an Iraqi court as "terrorists."
