BREAKING NEWS: Outbreak Of World Peace!

Posted 2/9/07 at 2:37pm by jamie

The war in Iraq has ended. We are at peace with Iran and the Israeli's and Palestinians are in perfect harmony living side by side. The genocide in Darfur has ceased after years and for once we are experiencing world peace.

You would think that was the case listening to the traditional media. CNN, MSNBC and FOX is on non stop Anna Nicole coverage. CNN actually started talking about Iraq this morning, but broke into that with their "breaking news". What was that news that trumped the war engulfing the nation? "The coroner has started the autopsy on Anna Nicole". Give me a break!

The really amazing part is the part that is so obvious. These news outlets are using this death to try and raise their ratings, as they always do. This is the most disrespectful thing that can be done with someone who died.  Now the big question is "who gets her money?" Hey idiots - who cares!

I talked to a lot of people I know last night and everyone of them was fed up with this coverage. They feel the same way I do. She is dead - it's tragic but it is over. Now move on in the news cycle. The media won't hardly mention a soldiers death in Iraq anymore, but let a model die or an astronaut get arrested in diapers and they have a proverbial  circle jerk over it.

Is it any wonder why we are looked at so negatively in the world? Everyone else faces serious problems, yet we try to hide them by our celebrities lives. Of course this is the plan of the media. Real Americans are still concerned about everything else.

Senate Republicans Shit On Our Troops!

Posted 2/5/07 at 11:38pm by jamie

They don't even think our troops deserve a couple hours of their time on the Senate floor. Why? To protect the most hated President in the history of the United States.

This should mean a new war if the Democrats care about Iraq. Throw the "bi-partisan" bullshit out the window. The Democrats are in power because the people wanted change. Now use that power to stop anything Republican. Don't give them one piece of damn legislation until they stop their childish games. Reid should also get with Pelosi and carry this over to the House. They get nothing until they grow up and realize their crap is what made them the minority - not the Democrats.

Winning More Hearts and Minds

At least we admit it now:

U.S. military officers offered their condolences on Monday to an Iraqi family south of Baghdad in a rare admission of error after killing two innocent Iraqis in an airstrike last Tuesday.

A U.S. military statement released on January 31 said two "insurgents" out of a four-man team were killed as they were trying to plant a roadside bomb in the town of Mahmudiya.

Calling the incident a "tragic accident," the officers on Monday handed out $2,500 to the family for each man killed.

I am sure that $2500 made it all better for them too. Yeah right. This is the byproduct of a miitary who has had their tours extended numerous times and is ready to go home. With Bush's surge, we will certainly see more incidents like this, as well as more Haditha's.

Bush Further Proves He Hates Democracy

Posted 1/26/07 at 4:23pm by jamie

This idiot needs to be impeached now:

President Bush, on a collision course with Congress over Iraq, said Friday "I'm the decision-maker" about sending more troops to the war. He challenged skeptical lawmakers not to prematurely condemn his buildup.

"I've picked the plan that I think is most likely to succeed," Bush said in an Oval Office meeting with senior military advisers.

And when all your other decisions have resulted in enormous losses of life, money and safety around the world then your decisions will come under scrutiny. It's called the Constitution stupid and you swore to uphold it. Instead you chose to rewrite it and America will not stand for it any longer. What line will be next? "Bring em' on"?

Bush Must Be Fearing The Democrats

Posted 1/17/07 at 7:59pm by jamie

All the arguments last year over the warrentless wiretapping, and all the spin by wingnuts to say it is legal has now come to an end:

President George W. Bush has decided not to reauthorize the controversial domestic warrantless surveillance program for terrorism suspects and to put it under the authority of a secret special court, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales said on Wednesday.

"The president has determined not to reauthorize the Terrorist Surveillance Program when the current authorization expires," Gonzales wrote in a letter to Senate leaders.

"Any electronic surveillance that was occurring as part of the Terrorist Surveillance Program will now be conducted subject to the approval of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court," Gonzales said.

The only possible reason I can see for such a drastic about face on this is the question of legality. I suspect that someone in the administration told Bush that he was really walking a tight rope on this and the Democrats are ready to push him over. Of course this doesn't absolve him from any previous wrong doings on this, and the Democrats still must investigate the past incidents and take appropriate actions against Bush for them.

History Repeats Yet Again

Posted 1/16/07 at 9:11pm by jamie

Throughout Bush's professional life, he has ran companies into the ground and relied upon others to bail him out. Well his new business, The United States of America, is no different. He now expects the Democrats to bail his ass out on his failed fiscal policies:

When he takes the House rostrum next week for the State of the Union address, President Bush will list among his goals a balanced federal budget, a shift for a president who has presided over record deficits while aggressively cutting taxes.

Politically, analysts say, the president is calling the bluff of Democrats, who won control of Congress in part by accusing Bush of reckless fiscal policies. While Bush now shares the Democrats' goal to erase the deficit by 2012, the politically perilous work of making that happen -- cutting spending or raising taxes -- falls to the Democratic-run Congress.

"The Democrats have assailed deficits under President Bush. The White House is telling Democrats to walk the walk," said Brian M. Riedl, a budget analyst at the conservative Heritage Foundation.

Budget experts and economists from across the political spectrum, including some who worked in the Bush White House, say that Bush is unlikely to offer real concessions toward a balanced budget in the plan he delivers to Congress next month.

Last week Congress passed a bill requiring the federal government to negotiate for lower drug prices on Medicare. Bush already said he is going to veto this bill. So the Democrats try something to not only save seniors money, but also the government and Bush won't allow it.

Why FOX News Is Number 1

Posted 1/13/07 at 9:27pm by jamie

During the holidays, I was getting so frustrated. Every time I turned on MSNBC or CNN, I was greeted with a repeat. Something sounds wrong with turning on a NEWS channel and seeing re-runs. If I wanted re-runs, I would stick to watching prime-time network television, but MSNBC and CNN have turned to that same path.

Now the re-runs aren't so bad, but right now on MSNBC is this:

msnbcbn.jpg

Don't get me wrong here. This is a great story, but they were found 24 hours ago. It is no longer breaking news. This news conference was a replay of the one from this morning. Can they at least remove the "breaking news" titles from it?

During these aggravations, I have found myself turning on FOX more and more. They aren't claiming this is "breaking news" and during MSNBC's and CNN's holiday hiatus, well FOX was running new shows (even though they had their typical right wing slant).

If MSNBC and CNN ever want to pull ahead from FOX, then they need to ditch the re-runs. MSNBC has to learn that the news does not stop at 10pm every night. CNN must learn that spending 2 hours talking about Oprah is not news. In other words - do your damn jobs if you want to succeed.

Looks Like Bush Is Protecting His Corrupt Buddies

Posted 1/12/07 at 4:57pm by jamie

Getting someone to prosecute corrupt politicians effectively is a hard thing, but for Bush, getting someone to not prosecute them is apparently harder:

The Bush administration has quietly asked San Diego U.S. Attorney Carol Lam, best known for her high-profile prosecutions of politicians and corporate executives, to resign her post, a law enforcement official said.

Lam, a Bush appointee who took the helm in 2002, was targeted because of job performance issues - in particular that she failed to make smuggling and gun cases a top priority, said the official, who declined to be identified because Lam has yet to step down.
Lam has had high-profile successes during her tenure, such as the Randy "Duke" Cunningham bribery case - but she alienated herself from bosses at the Justice Department because she is outspoken and independent, said local lawyers familiar with her policies.

When she took over, Lam made it clear that she planned to focus less on low-level smuggling cases in favor of public corruption and white collar crime, which would mean fewer but more significant prosecutions.

Yeah - because smuggling or gun cases are a far greater risk to our nation than people like Cunningham taking bribes in Congress. This sounds like another example of Bush circling the wagons.

Calling Bush Hitler Is A Bad Thing?

Posted 1/9/07 at 6:57pm by jamie

I guess it is if you are a Democrat, but Republicans seem to be ok with it (from Raw Story):

An economist who once served as President Reagan's Assistant Secretary of the Treasury compares President George W. Bush to Adolf Hitler in a column at the libertarian website Anti-war.com.

"Bush is like Hitler," Paul Craig Roberts writes in a column entitled The Surge: Political Cover or Escalation?. "He blames defeats on his military commanders, not on his own insane policy."

"Like Hitler, he protects himself from reality with delusion," Roberts continues. "In his last hours, Hitler was ordering non-existent German armies to drive the Russians from Berlin."

Banished Words

Posted 1/2/07 at 2:20am by jamie

Lake Superior State University has released their annual list of banished words and phrases. You know - those words that are over used. The list is available here for your viewing pleasure.

One phrase that didn't make the list, but should have is "Clinton did it". That has been the most over-used phrase for the past 6 years. It climaxed during the "Path to 9/11" fantasy film that aired on ABC. The voters showed they didn't buy that phrase last November, so it is now time for the right-wing pundits to retire that old phrase.

My Support Goes To:

Posted 12/28/06 at 1:40pm by jamie

John Edwards:

Two years after his hopes for a Democratic takeover of the White House were narrowly dashed, former vice presidential nominee John Edwards said Thursday that he is making another run at the presidency.

Edwards - who is calling for cuts in poverty, global warming and troops in Iraq - scheduled his kickoff in New Orleans, still devastated from last year's Hurricane Katrina. He chose the site to highlight his signature concern of the economic disparity that divides America.

"I'm here to announce I'm a candidate for president of the United States," Edwards sold NBC's "Today Show" Thursday, one of three back-to-back interviews by the candidate on morning news shows. "I've reached my own conclusion this is the best way to serve my country."

I have been waiting for this news, and couldn't be happier (unless of course Gore decides to run). What would make this perfect is if Obama decided he would run with Edwards (think of an Edwards/Obama ticket). That could very well be possible, considering the number of activities they have been doing together latley. It would also ease the fears of people saying "Obama doesn't have enough experience" and keep the Obama support with Edwards. That ticket would pretty much secure a Democratic White House in 2009.

The White House Continues To Blame The Democrats

Posted 12/4/06 at 8:12pm by jamie

Reuters is reporting this on the news of Bolton's resignation:

"Despite the support of a strong bipartisan majority of senators, Ambassador Bolton's confirmation was blocked by a Democrat filibuster, and this is a clear example of the breakdown in the Senate confirmation process," [Dana] Perino said.

Now at last check, the Bolton nomination was till in committee. Perhaps President Bush should make sure his spokespeople are better informed on the operation of our democracy. Filibusters don't occur in committee and the actual hold up was the opposition by one Lincoln Chaffee, a Republican. So this is how the White house is planning on reaching out to Democrats? I certainly hope they take note of this.

Powell Didn't Get The Memo

Posted 11/29/06 at 5:58pm by jamie

Raw Story brings us this:

report filed by CNN claims that former Secretary of State Colin Powell has said that President Bush must accept that Iraq has descended into civil war.

"Powell says he thinks we can call it a civil war," Cable News Network's Hala Gorani, reporting from Dubai, said today.

Powell also reportedly "added if he were still heading the State Department, he probably would recommend to the Bush administration that those terms should be used in order to come to terms with the reality on the ground."

It seems like everyone is accepting the fact that Iraq is in a civil war except President Denial himself. Why is that? Well considering he is out looking for funding for his "legacy library" now, apparently he don't want to tarnish that legacy anymore. If he can hold off on calling it a civil war until 2009 then he can blame it on the next President. That has worked really well in the past - just ask Lyndon Johnson.
