Gingrich To Obama: Give Up Your Pay!

Posted 1/2/12 at 5:42pm by jamie

Newt Gingrich is struggling to regain being anybody in the GOP field, so now he is grasping at straws:

Newt Gingrich is seeking to salvage his Iowa campaign by going after President Obama -- and suggesting the president give up his salary in 2012 because of reports he will spend most of the year seeking re-election.

At a campaign appearance this morning in Independence, Iowa, Gingrich blasted reports that Obama and his re-election team will run against a "do-nothing" Congress in 2012.

"For the president's staff to announce that he's now going to govern without Congress," Gingrich said, reports the Des Moines Register. "Well, that means he's not going to govern. He's going to be a candidate for an entire year. He shouldn't take his salary.

How about this; for December of 2011 Michele Bachmann and Ron Paul will get $18,000 in pay, yet both have an antecedence record of less than 5%. Does Newt feel they should do the same? How about surrogates, like Senator Rand Paul, who is now out on the campaign trail with his father. Should he forego his pay?

Or what about Newt himself. During his tenure in Congress, did he ever once sacrifice his salary while campaigning? No.

This is nothing but Newt grasping at straws and it shows what a two faced bastard he really is. Our political system certainly is screwed up and this is one of the reasons for it, but to sit there and demand only one person make this kind of sacrifice while others, including Newt himself, never have and never will, shows the hypocrisy that people like Newt will resort to just to pander to the fringe base. Of course that is the Newt we all have come to know. Don't you screw around on your wife, only I can. Now you can see why his campaign has imploded.

N.Y. Town Clerk Says She Won't Sign Gay Marriage Licenses

Sounds like someone is refusing to do their job and should be terminated:

New York’s gay weddings victory lap has not extended to all parts of the Empire State, with a rural town clerk determined to not sign any same-sex marriage licenses.

Barbara MacEwen, the town clerk in upstate Volney who is responsible for signing marriage licenses in the town, said she’s morally opposed to same-sex weddings and does not intend to affix her signature to any marriage documents for gay or lesbian couples.

“If there’s any possible way to not do it legally, then yes, I would not want to put my name on any of those certificates or papers,” MacEwen told POLITICO. “That’s their life, they can do it, but I don’t feel I should be forced into something that’s against my morals and my God.”

MacEwen said she’s written her state senator — Republican Patty Ritchie, who voted against legalizing gay weddings — to determine her legal options.

I'm sorry but the gays and lesbians in Barbara's town have to pay taxes by law. Those taxes in turn help pay Barbara's salary. Since Barbara is refusing to do her job, paid for in part by the people she wants to discriminate against, she needs to be fired. Refusal to do her job also means she won't get unemployment and anyone calling for a reference on her should be told they would not hire her back. She would still be getting off easy compared to what would happen if the LGBT community refused to pay their taxes because of her.

$1 A Year

dollar bill, front and back Ford’s CEO agrees to a paycut:

Ford Motor became the first of the three U.S. automakers to unveil its turnaround plans to Congress Tuesday, but the plan contained little in the way of new cost cuts or other changes beyond what the company had previously announced.

The company announced that the salary of Ford CEO Alan Mulally would be cut to $1 a year if Ford (F, Fortune 500) actually borrowed money from the government. When Mulally appeared before the House Financial Services Committee last month, he said he would not agree to a paycut.

Ford also announced that it would sell its five corporate jets. Mulally and the CEOs of General Motors (GM</a>, Fortune 500) and Chrysler LLC received great criticism for each flying their own corporate jets to Washington to ask for help last month.

A Felon In The Republican House.

Posted 10/15/06 at 2:20pm by jamie

Since Bob Ney pleaded guilty Friday, we now have a felon sitting on the United States House of Representatives. Now he has said he will resign in the future and the Republicans have vowed to vote him out, but that will not happen until after their recess, which means Ney will continue to draw a salary from U.S. taxpayers.

This needs to become another key Democratic issue. Republicans really pissed America off last year when they all flew back into D.C., from around the country, late on a Sunday night in order to vote if they should step in on the Terri Schiavo fiasco. That was the first time in our nation's history that Congress has tried to intervene on an issue that affects only one person. The fact that a felon is now getting paid by U.S. taxpayers because the Republicans are to worried about themselves and won't take a vigilant stance is effecting the entire country.

Should our Congress be in the practice of harboring felons? That is exactly what they are doing right now. Ney's decision to plead guilty was no surprise either. We have known about it for a couple of months. Why didn't Congress take action before leaving? They knew damn well it was coming, and even what day it was coming on for well over a month.

What is really disturbing is the fact that Felons are not allowed to vote, yet we allow one to stay on the U.S. payroll and remain an active member of Congress? Oh I get it. To Republicans if you are poor, black, Hispanic or just not one of them, then if you commit a crime you loose your right to vote, even after paying your debt to society. If you are some white-Christian Republican, then you can remain in power even after you have confessed to your crimes, but yet start to repay your debt to society.

Let's sum that up. This man has not been convicted of a crime yet, however Republicans are demanding he be removed from office (and the Democrats have already removed him from all his committees, taking the vigilant stand).

Fixing The Economy - The House In Action

Posted 6/14/06 at 1:08pm by jamie

So the stock market is back to the 2005 levels, inflation is rising, people are losing jobs, people who have jobs have an insecure feeling about their income, the national debt is at record levels, we got army bases who might get the power shut off for failure to pay bills, etc., etc., etc. So how will Congress act to fix all these problems? Well they are already working on it:

Despite record low approval ratings, House lawmakers Tuesday embraced a $3,300 pay raise that will increase their salaries to $168,500.

The 2 percent cost-of-living raise would be the seventh straight for members of the House and Senate.

Lawmakers easily squelched a bid by Rep. Jim Matheson, D-Utah, to get a direct vote to block the COLA, which is automatically awarded unless lawmakers vote to block it.

That's right. We will put more money back into our economy through the pockets of our Congress. Thanks Congress for caring. I feel better now. You know they could have done something really bad like raised the minimum wage. Oh wait. How could they do that when they are only working 98 days this year? Remember - this House is working less than any session of Congress in over 60 years.

I think I will send a letter to my Representative today , thanking him for doing this. Of course he helped even more because he is the Majority Leader and his salary now stands at $183,500. Way to go Mr. Boehner.
