Then There Were 57

Misc

The Oregonian has projected that Jeff Merkley beat incumbent Republican Senator, Gordon Smith. This puts the Democrats at 57 seats now. While we most likely won’t see the magical number of 60, every seat helps and means less help we need from the other side to overcome filibusters.

Some Thoughts On This Anniversary

Misc

The right wing blogs have been in going on about the ten year anniversary of the Monica Lewinsky ordeal. As with any anniversary, it is time to reflect. In particular I would like to reflect on some very obvious hypocrisy’s this is pointing out. They dwell in the past – Isn’t this something the wingnuts […]

Time To Waterboard Some Republicans!

Misc

After all it’s just like swimming. Just ask Republican Senator Kit Bond: Since television is taking a major turn towards reality shows, this could become a great new hit. Everyone who defends waterboarding gets a chance to prove how gentle it is by getting waterboarded on national television.

Dictatorship!

Misc

According to former Reagan official Paul Craig Roberts, that is exactly where this country is at now. Unless Congress immediately impeaches Bush and Cheney, a year from now the US could be a dictatorial police state at war with Iran. Bush has put in place all the necessary measures for dictatorship in the form of […]

Two More Desert Bush On Iraq

Misc

Of course the two deserting Bush now are John Doolittle and Pete Domenici, two people facing tough re-elections as well as investigations into their own backgrounds. While the media is talking about this recent rash of desertion by warhawk Republicans, the Democratic leadership is wondering if they will put up or shut-up. Nancy Pelosi had […]

The Two Faces Of Mitch McConnell

Misc

The AP just reported that Republican Senator Mitch McConnell is threatning to filibuster any attempts by the Democrats to block Bush’s escalation plan. This is ironic, considering what McConnell was saying in his majority days of the filibuster: Senate Majority Whip Mitch McConnell said yesterday that Republicans have enough votes to invoke the “nuclear option” […]

The Real Point Of Foley And What It Means To Our Democracy

Misc

That is what many are saying now. Tonight Joe Scarborough and Lawrence O’Donnell echoed those very words. “I know Mark Foley and he is such a nice guy. I would have never known”. Now ask yourselves how many times you have heard that very statement. We hear it with rapists, pedophiles, murderers and even cult […]

Idiotic Statement Of The Week

Misc

This is truly an absurd quote from the Governor of Florida: Tropical Storm Alberto, pushing a dome of sea water toward shore, quickened its assault on North Florida this evening. Officials urged coastal residents to swiftly evacuate the area. ”Its arrival on our shores will be much quicker than we were anticipating a few hours […]

Distancing From Bush

Misc

Salon has a very interesting article about one of my Senators – Mike DeWine. DeWine is facing a tough re-election this year against Sherrod Brown and it looks like he is trying to distance himself from the standard GOP talking points even more: With his neatly combed brown hair, button-down white shirts, middle-aged slouch and […]
