The strongest base of the Republican party is the Christian right. They are
the ones that deliver the votes needed for Republican’s to keep control. It is
where the money is for the right so it’s no wonder the right cater to them so
well.

Just look at a typical example of homosexuality. The right demonize the gay
community and builds votes based upon the hate the Christian right has towards
gays. They campaign on these “family values” and Christian values non stop. That
should make it no shock when someone on the right turns out to be gay and has
been hiding the fact for years. They know that their sexual preference could
cost them their very valuable base.

What if people on the right started insulting the Christian right? What if
they did something like refer to them as “wackos”? That is exactly what Mike
Scanlon, former spokesman for Tom Delay and partner of lobbyist Jack Abramoff,
did. In emails released from a Senate Hearing into the business dealings of Jack
Abramoff, one email from Scanlon referred to the “wackos”.

Simply put, we want to bring out the wackos to vote against something and
make sure the rest of the public lets the whole thing slip past them. The
wackos get their information from the Christian right, Christian radio,
mail, the Internet and telephone trees.”

The emails were detailing a plan using biblical references to block Indian
casinos and shut down race tracks. The twist is he was doing this in favor of
one casino while also representing other casinos opposing this legislation. It
made Abramoff and Scanlon millions.

Ralph Reed, the former Christian Coalition director and Bush campaign
strategist was also paid $1.2 million by the Coushatta tribe to help block other
casinos that could cause competition.

So now we find out that deep in the trenches of the Republican party, there
are those that feel their base is “wackos”. If I was a Christian and a member of
the Republican party, I would seriously question my political affiliations.
Abramoff runs very deep throughout the GOP and his scandals have reached around
the globe.

Howard Dean said the Republican party is mostly white Christian and was put
under fire for it even though 75% of the party is just that. Perhaps it is time
to question powerful lobbyists in the Republican party that refer to their
largest base as “wackos”.
