Donald Trump’s Insane Presser

Our President is not a doctor and even fails at playing one on TV.

Donald Trump gave another incoherent, rambling press conference yesterday. It’s become a daily adventure which I try to skip. But yesterday’s presser took a really strange turn.

When talking about disinfectants, Trump pondered out loud if people couldn’t just inject this stuff, or get it into the lungs. This has lead to companies like Lysol issuing “DON’T DO THIS” statements.

Trump also discussed UV light, again pondering out loud if there wasn’t some way to put it into the body, obviously envisioning a race of Dr. Manhattans.

And while Trump’s delivery method of UV light is off the walls, batshit crazy given the health risks associated with UV light exposure, it wasn’t really that far off.

Earlier this week researchers at Columbia University put out a report that a newer form of UV light could be a “game changer” with fighting COVID19:

A technique that zaps airborne viruses with a narrow-wavelength band of UV light shows promise for curtailing the person-to-person spread of COVID-19 in indoor public places.

The technology, developed by Columbia University’s Center for Radiological Research, uses lamps that emit continuous, low doses of a particular wavelength of ultraviolent light, known as far-UVC, which can kill viruses and bacteria without harming human skin, eyes and other tissues, as is the problem with conventional UV light.

“Far-UVC light has the potential to be a ‘game changer,’” said David Brenner, professor of radiation biophysics and director of the center. “It can be safely used in occupied public spaces, and it kills pathogens in the air before we can breathe them in.”

Of course this is all about killing the virus once it has left a body, which I can see Trump quickly dismissing as not being good enough. Putting him aside, the whole idea of using far-UV light is a great one. The wavelengths are such that they won’t penetrate human skin and cause cancer. I even wondered about stores installing these lights a couple of weeks ago on my personal Facebook page.

Wonder how long before public places install these?

So the whole idea of UV light is actually along the lines of prevention and not treatment, like President Stable Genius wants us to believe. Still, this is not any normal UV light. It’s a special light that isn’t harmful. That means don’t go spending a few hours in the tanning bed, expecting it to cure you. All that will do is give you new problems.

And before leaving, I can’t help but wonder if network execs aren’t contemplating a “do not try this at home” warning to accompany these Trump pressers. You know people will try what he implies and that will lead to people dying.
