It’s only been in affect for a couple of weeks and now Ohio has it’s first arrest since allowing guns into bars:

Police say the incident occurred around 2 a.m. Wednesday when O’Reilly, who has a permit to carry a concealed weapon, got into a heated argument with another man at the H&H Tavern on Ohio Avenue in Deer Park.

They say O’Reilly, 25, walked out of the bar and returned a short time later with a .40-caliber semiautomatic Glock pistol in his hand.

According to the arrest report, O’Reilly shouted a racial slur at the man, who is Hispanic, and said, “I’m going to kill you.”

Deer Park police say O’Reilly’s friends ushered him out of the bar and police arrested him at gunpoint a few minutes later. He did not resist and no one was hurt

When this law was first being debated one of the State Senators had this to say:

State Sen. Jimmy Stewart, R-Athens, voted in favor of the bill in the Senate, where it was approved in May.

“It boils down to concealed carry permit holders are, by definition, law abiding citizens, or they wouldn’t be issued the permit in the first place,” he said. “I see nothing to suggest a law abiding citizen suddenly is going to become a non-law abiding citizen just because they enter an establishment that serves alcohol.”

The law also says you can’t murder, rape or steal, yet we have prisons full of murderers, rapists and thieves. Common sense has left the building and this is what we are left with!

But let’s take it even further. Tennessee recently enacted a very similar law. Let’s look at what happened today to the main sponsor and champion of that law:

Rep. Curry Todd, the champion of Tennessee’s guns-in-bars law, was jailed last night and charged with drunken driving and possession of a handgun while under the influence.

Todd, R-Collierville, was stopped in his GMC Envoy at around 11:15 last night near Hillsboro Village. He was going 60 mph in a 40 mph zone and swerving in and out of his lane, police say. He failed a roadside sobriety test and refused to take a breathalyzer. Police say they detected a strong odor of alcohol on the legislator and found a loaded Smith & Wesson 38 Special in a holster in his car.

A police affidavit says Todd was unsteady on his feet, “almost falling down at times,” his speech was slurred and he had watery and bloodshot eyes. Todd was “obviously very impaired and not in any condition to be carrying a loaded handgun,” police say.

Again – these people are law abiding citizens who won’t be drunk. Right and I got some ocean front property in Ohio to sell you!
