Conservatives Admit Obamacare Will Work

The biggest part of Obamacare will go into effect on January 1. That is the individual mandate. I have questioned that and been against it since the start, but now I am reconsidering. Why? Because conservatives have admitted it will work.
You know, it’s one thing to oppose a policy; that, of course, is perfectly legitimate. It’s another to undermine it’s implementation by using whatever legislative or legal maneuvers are available to keep it from working, even if it imposes widespread costs in the meantime. Oh, and it’s even worse to do that when you have no alternative policy.
But now, the latest. As discussed last week, conservatives are now trying to talk people out of signing up for insurance through the exchanges.
Let’s remember the purpose of the mandate and exchanges. The more people on a group policy (which is the exchanges), the lower rates. Rates go even lower when you got healthy, younger people paying into the system, something which is lacking right now. It’s the same way that the federal government can off all its employees decent health insurance at a low rate.
Now the conservatives are wanting to sabotage this part of Obamacare by urging people to not sign up for the health exchanges. Now why would you sabotage something that is broken? Simple, you don’t! So conservatives have now conceded that the health exchanges will provide people with lower cost insurance.
But they won’t see it that way. Even in their announcement, they are pushing a different reason for the boycott:
“I don’t think the law can be repealed until we have another president,” said Twila Brase, president and co-founder of Citizens’ Council for Health Freedom. “I do believe the law will go into effect, but that doesn’t mean it has to be successfully implemented.”
To that end, Brase launched the “Refuse to Enroll” campaign earlier this month on her daily radio show, “Health Freedom Minute,” which is broadcast on more than 350 stations nationwide, including the American Family Radio Network with stations throughout Ohio. […]
“Contrary to popular belief, non-enrollment in the exchanges does not result in any penalties; fines are only for failure to be insured,” said Brase, whose organization claims the law will limit consumers’ choices, threaten their privacy and increase the cost of health insurance. “We look at the law as being unconstitutional because it’s a government takeover of health care, so we want to make it difficult for the law to function as its proponents want it to.”
(emphasis added)
First off, let’s address the obvious. The law is constitutional. I myself believed it wasn’t, but the Supreme Court has ruled that it is. I might not agree with that ruling, but it is the law of the land per our Constitution. If Conservatives want to decide what is constitutional and what isn’t, then they need to become lawyers and fight for it. Just telling yourself it isn’t is not the way to get things done and will only land you in more trouble.
So we have another admission by Conservatives here – they don’t believe in the Constitution. They always say they do, but when a law is upheld by the Supreme Court, as our Constitution calls for, they are suddenly against it. Sorry guys, you can’t have it both ways!
So today I am announcing that my support for the mandate is shifting. I’m not 100% on board yet. I won’t be able to decide until I see the actual numbers, but from what I am hearing people are already seeing savings, so my support is going to grow.
Perhaps that is the whole reason for this “boycott”. Maybe Conservatives have seen that it will work and are now afraid that the success of this part of Obamacare may greatly diminish the little respect the people of our country have for the conservative movement. Yes, Obamacare may not only lead to better insurance rates, but also the death of the far right of this country. OOPS! Now we know why they talk about death panels!
