The article published in Newsweek on May 9th regarding mishandling of the
Quran by soldiers in Guantanamo Bay detention center sparked riots in the Muslim
world that lead to numerous deaths and days of unrest. After pressure from the
Pentagon, Newsweek retracted this article, stating their source was not
credible.

Now in the late evening of last night (Friday, June 3), the Pentagon release a
report saying that there was mishandling of the Quran by U.S. soldiers. As
matter of fact, new reports of this mishandling seem to come out almost daily.

The Right-Wing spin machine has done their job, and done it well. They made
our “free” press out to be the bad guys on this one, once again desecrating our
Constitution, something that true Americans hold as sacred the same way Muslims
hold the Quran as sacred and Christians view the Bible as sacred.

In an attempt to save credibility to a war, that continues to loose public
support, the Pentagon lashed out at our free press, and Newsweek folded. This
should be no shock, during the dawn of the Downing Street Memo. This in fact
sent a message to journalists everywhere, “Be with us or be publicly
discredited”. This is perhaps a contributing factor to the “less than expected”
coverage of the Downing Street Memo.

While the administration knows that ridding our constitution of that pesty
first amendment would lead to a public out cry and possible rioting, they have
decided to use “loopholes” to get around free press. The loop hole is simple, if
you report it then we will shame it. They will shame it to a point that you
retract it and loose standing in the journalistic community.

George Bush has admitted to paying the media to put positive spin on his
agenda. It is a shame that the people can not pay the media to report the truth.
Wait, we do, we subscribe to their networks, by their publications, and view
their websites. In fact we supply the media with far more revenue than George
Bush or his cronies ever could.

The fact is simple, the Pentagon needs to retract their statements regarding
Newsweek and stop the censoring of the American media. It is truly a sad day
that when an American wants to hear news about his nation, he needs to read
foreign news sources. The BBC, Time of London and Guardian, all British owned
and operated, seems to know more about what happens in the United States than
it’s own citizens do.

There for I recommend that all readers of my blog, start demanding the truth
get out there. Take a couple minutes out of your day to write, either be email
or snail mail to the media outlets you subscribe to and watch. Let them know
that you are less than satisfied with their coverage of pertinent news. They are
working hard, or hardly working, to provide news. In fact they pick the simplest
stories to cover such as Michael Jackson and The Runaway Bride so that they
don’t have to work. It is time to demand our news media get their hands dirty
and cover the news.
