Senate passed with a 90-9 vote an amendment to the defense bill which would
limit torture of suspects in United States custody. This high rate of passage
should send a shock to the White House, where Bush has already promised a veto.
Only problem now is that Senate has enough votes to overturn Bush’s veto.

The amendment was authored by John McCain and Colin Powell has even publicly
backed it. Considering the near future release of new torture pictures out of
Iraq, our military is in need of some structure and discipline so that the
United States can once again become an example for the world (of course a good
change would start in the White House).
