Why the sudden uproar over Rep. Murtha’s plan? Most likely it is because he
stole the thunder from the GOP.

CNN
is reporting that General Casey has issued a plan to the Pentagon outlining a
phaesed withdrawal starting first of the year.

The top U.S. commander in Iraq has submitted a plan to the Pentagon for
withdrawing troops in Iraq, according to a senior defense official.

Gen. George Casey submitted the plan to Secretary of Defense Donald
Rumsfeld. It includes numerous options and recommends that brigades —
usually made up of about 2,000 soldiers each — begin pulling out of Iraq
early next year.

This of course is nothing new for Casey. He made comments which back up this
plan over the summer. Those comments were quickly stricken down by the
administration. Funny how Bush tells America he listens to the commanders on the
ground but as soon as they say we can start bringing troops home he goes against
their judgement.

The Republicans are apparently wanting to make Iraq look like their war and
their victory. One of the most respected military minds in our nation comes up
with a plan this week and Republicans attack it mainly because he is a Democrat.
Republican’s haven’t gone after other Republicans who have called for immediate
troop withdrawals. As soon as Murtha presented his plan though then it was a no
holds barred, knock down drag out swift boating of a Vietnam vet.

The biggest problem that I can see over this whole Iraq war issue is
communications. In a time of cell phones, email, blackberries, video
conferencing and satellite communications, it seems that the Pentagon and
Congress can not communicate. Varying reports came out this year in regards to
the number of combat ready brigades in Iraq, the number of security forces and
the necessary level of U.S. troops. This is all caused by the lack of oversight
our Republican run congress has committed. They have ignored their duties per
the constitution in order to save face with a President who the American people
do not trust.

Now that we find out Murtha isn’t that far off of base with Casey,
Republican’s have to attack Murtha so they can try and save next years
elections. This is just further proof that the Republicans have no concern what
so ever for our troops, only their political livelihood.
