Today I installed the new commenting system. It somewhat resembles the
Haloscan system you may be accustomed to from such sites as Crooks and Liars.
This one is a little more featured back however. It offers actual threaded
comments. For those not familiar with threaded comments, you now have the option
of replying to an actual comment and that reply will appear right under it.

If you are viewing an article from the front page or an archive page, then
clicking the comments link will popup the comments window. If you are viewing
the actual entry page (from clicking the title or permalink) then the comments
will be displayed right under that post.

The commenting does offer some extra features beyond the threading. The most
notable will be the animated smileys. You can click the help on the comment post
page to display the panel of available smileys and html tags. If you enter a tag
that is not supported then it will be stripped out when posted. This is for
security measures to the viewers of this blog.

There is also no need to enter the annoying graphic code to post. I had
implemented that due to numerous spam bots posting on the blog. With the new
system, I have the ability to ban IP addresses so if a spam bot does post to the
blog then I can simply ban it.

Currently I have all comments from last October to the present in the new
system. I should have rest of the comments entered in the near future.
