Why Boehner Matters

Last night in my Open Letter to John Boehner, I made this statement:

I am not asking as a blogger. I am asking as a constituent. Considering the pure number of these acts we here reported in our own area on a daily basis (and I do only live 10 miles from you so we hear the same news), couldn’t you have exhibited some outrage and taken action?

Today I want to put some backing on that claim.

Sexual Misconduct Arrest

An Escondido man is being held in lieu of $1 million bail in Ohio after pleading not guilty to several charges stemming from an alleged tryst he had with a 13-year-old girl, it was reported Thursday.

Christopher Ryan King, 28, allegedly had sex with the girl after meeting her on the Internet, according to published reports.

He pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Montgomery County Municipal Court to 12 charges of sexual misconduct involving the girl at a Brookville, Ohio, motel.

Man facing sex charge

A Florence man was arrested Monday evening and charged with using the Internet to solicit sex from an undercover police officer in Ohio.

Fred Voelker was arrested in an Internet sting operation conducted in Hamilton Township. He allegedly tried to solicit sex from an officer posing as a 15-year-old girl, Channel 5 reported.

Senior Citizen Arrested In Internet Sex Sting

Authorities arrested a senior citizen Tuesday morning in connection with an Internet sex sting.

Robert L. Pyle, 66, allegedly solicited sex online from a Hamilton Township detective he believed to be a 14-year-old girl and then showed up to have sex with her, police said.

A Warren County grand jury indicted him on charges of importuning and unlawful sexual contact with a minor.

These stories not only involve internet child predators, they all occurred in this area within the last week. There is a difference here. These people actually tried to or did meet the children for sex. Foley only engaged in communication via the internet with minors. The similarity? These all started on the internet as just communications. They progressed to this level. That is what could of happened in the Foley case if it wasn’t for ABC News breaking this.

(SIDE NOTE: It is hard to commend ABC for this after the Path to 9/11 fiasco, but they brought this story into the spotlight and must be commended for it. They exposed  sexual harassment of minors by a United States Congressman – something that the Republican leadership in the United States House of Representatives was ignoring! And Clinton getting a blow job from an intern was so bad. At least they were adults and were consenting. )

Instead we have these kind of stories in our local area (the same area Boehner lives in), and Boehner ignored the reports that the very catalyst for these type of crimes was occurring with in his own party, which he is the majority leader of!

Let me revisit this statement from today’s Washington Post that I reported on earlier:

The resignation rocked the Capitol, and especially Foley’s GOP colleagues, as lawmakers were rushing to adjourn for at least six weeks. House Majority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) told The Washington Post last night that he had learned this spring of inappropriate “contact” between Foley and a 16-year-old page. Boehner said he then told House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.). Boehner later contacted The Post and said he could not remember whether he talked to Hastert.

So if Boehner didn’t report it to Hastert, as he later claimed, then who did he report it to? Did he just hear the information and ignore it? Did the Majority Leader of the United States House of Representatives here that a member of his own party was suspected of engaging in online sexual communications with a minor and turn the other cheek? Which one is it? Either Boehner told Hastert, or he ignored this crime.

Come clean on this Mr. Boehner. If you don’t want to be forthcoming in the events that lead up to this, then the blogosphere and media will continue to dig until we can uncover the truth. Right now it looks very bad for you sir.

Please give to Mort Meier and help rid the United States House of Represenatives of John Boehner. We need someone who will put the law and child safety above politics. Mort is definitely that man.
