There is all this flack over Rich Little headlining the Correspondents’ dinner this year. Reading the article on Editor and Publisher, I was amused at the final paragraph:

Scully has said that the choice of Little, who practices a milder former of humor than Colbert, had nothing to do with any controversy surrounding Colbert’s performance last year. “Colbert had a couple of zingers toward President Bush, and a couple toward the press corps,” Scully recalled. “Stephen Colbert is very sophisticated and if you’ve not seen his show you may not get it.” With Little, he added, “you don’t have to explain his humor.”

(emphasis mine)

Steve Scully is the president of the White House Correspondents Association. I guess what he is saying is that the “brain dead weed smokers” (as FOX would have you believe) that watch Colbert are more sophisticated than the elite Washington crowd that goes to the dinner (you know – our leaders, reporters, stars ,etc.). It sounds like Scully, while trying to ease any jabs at Bush, made the biggest jab at Bush and all of D.C.
