Bush's Baseless Claims

TPM has posted this video and it goes with what I was saying earlier:
The part that really gets me wondering is this:
I can say with certainty that the Quds force, a part of the Iranian government, has provided these sophisticated IEDs that have harmed our troops. And I’d like to repeat, I do not know whether or not the Quds force was ordered from the top echelons of government. But my point is what’s worse — them ordering it and it happening, or them not ordering it and it happening? And so we will continue to protect our troops.
Which is the exact thing that can be said about Abu Gharib and Haditha. Take this little exchange from last May:
Q Mr. President, what have you been told about the killings at Haditha? And are you worried about the impact it could have on the situation in Iraq?
PRESIDENT BUSH: I am troubled by the initial news stories. I am mindful that there is a thorough investigation going on. If, in fact, the laws were broken, there will be punishment. I know this: I’ve talked to General Pete Pace about the subject, who is a proud Marine, and nobody is more concerned about these allegations than the Marine Corps. The Marine Corps is full of men and women who are honorable people who understand rules of war. And if, in fact, these allegations are true, the Marine Corps will work hard to make sure that that culture, that proud culture will be reinforced, and that those who violated the law, if they did, will be punished
So let’s apply the current Iran logic to that and we come up with this – What’s worse — them ordering it and it happened, or them not ordering and it happening?
The entire point is Bush has offered no evidence that the Iranian government is involved in supplying these weapons. Instead he is making very dangerous assumptions and allegations. During Haditha he asked for patience during the investigation and remember – it took almost 6 months to even get the military or administration to investigate this.
This is a perfect justification for Diplomacy with Iran. If we could find out that the Iranian government is behind this or not is a key issue here. If it is rogue members of the Quds army then is Iran going to go after them. If they are then we should offer them the same patience that Bush asked of the world during Haditha.
The problem is we got a cowboy in the White House. He likes to stand behind his podium and make very dangerous allegations. It wouldn’t be so bad if this hasn’t happened time and time again (*cough* “Bring em’ on”). Congress needs to really investigate Bush’s latest Iranian claims and findout if it is true or not.
Jush has much more on this.
