And Australia’s new Prime Minister is hard at it:

On his first day in office, Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd started work on plans to sign the Kyoto Protocol. His predecessor, the conservative John Howard, refused to sign the agreement. Japan is pleased with the decision to sign the Kyoto Protocol. Tokyo says relations with Canberra remain good, despite the prime minister’s outspoken criticism of Japanese whale hunting. Prime Minister Rudd also intends to withdraw Australian troops from Iraq.

I wonder how long it will take our next President to make such changes. It’s good to see a world leader actually lead.

The other news hidden in here is the fact that the U.S. will be the only nation not to sign Kyoto now. Will we continue this path of arrogance or will we finally join the world? This is another question for our next President. We sure as hell can’t count on the current one to do it.
