Come Back From La La Land

So the talk today has been about Jamie Lynn Spears and her pregnancy, which has turned into another debate of abstinence only programs. I love the defenders of these programs that quickly dismiss every study that says it don’t work because they think it does. It is a serious case of being stuck in fantasy land.

However…

I just got thinking maybe they are onto something. Maybe we should start telling people not to do things and they won’t. Let’s try telling people not to murder or steal or lie or cheat. We could close all our prisons then! Damn why hasn’t society thought of this great system before.

You know what got me practicing safe sex? In 1992 I transported a patient who was on his deathbed from AIDS. He was only 23. During our time in the back of my ambulance we had a nice discussion. He told me how he contracted the disease – through unprotected sex with a woman. Perhaps we should use examples like this to help teach children about safe sex and forget this altered reality that kids aren’t going to go out and become curious of the most basic human actions.

Oh and as a side note for Mike Huckabee. I sat in the back of a closed ambulance with an AIDS patient. I didn’t have a mask on or some radiation looking suit. It was just me and him talking. I am here 15 years later and HIV free. Wasn’t that the same time you thought these people should be quarantined? Yeah shows what you know Huckaboner!
