After a couple months of perfecting this template, I think I finally got it. I also ditched the forums since they weren’t getting used. I may bring them back later using Drupal’s native system.

I also added OpenID support. If you have an OpenID then you can login with that. Also there is now avatar and signature support, if you wish to personalize your comments.

I am hoping to open up a diary section in a couple of weeks. I figure that would be better than a forum section, and give everyone a chance to share their views. I will post more on that when it gets close.
