The talks have entered a deadlock and the Sunni’s refuse to sign on to the
constitution in Iraq. Despite the deadlock, the constitution will be sent to

called on all Sunni’s to reject the constitution on the October 15 referendum
vote.

Today the

Telegraph
had a very interesting article talking about the “meltdown” in
Iraq over the constitution.

The credibility of Iraq’s political process was in danger last night as
parliament again failed to vote on a draft constitution which a Sunni
politician said was “fit only for the bin”.

The government had earlier announced plans to bypass parliament in an
attempt to push through the document.

Interesting how in a democratic process we are supporting that certain key
parts are being circumvented.

Last night over 100,000 protestors took to the street to voice their
opposition to the consitiution. This has caused Bush to jump in and today he
phoned A Shi’ite leader and tried to urge him to put their differences behind
and move forward on a vote. All the same, it seems that the constitution will go
to the vote of the people without the backing of parliament meaning it is most
likley going to fail in October and we will be back to square one (that is
unless we figure out a way to intervene and keep the Sunni’s from voting it
down).
